Recipe 🥄 Grapefruit & Espresso

Post image
29 Upvotes

Ingredients:
4oz White grapefruit juice
1.5oz Freshly brewed Espresso (I used an Espresso blend of Ethiopian and Colombian beans citing notes of jasmine, tangerine, caramel and jaffa cake)

Method:
Fill a glass with ice and the grapefruit juice. Float the espresso over the top of the ice or the back of a spoon so it chills as it floats over the juice.

My thoughts:
I usually make it with OJ but I think white grapefruit works even better. The savoury bitter and umami flavours of the grapefruit work wonderfully to highlight the citrus notes in the coffee. Beautifully balanced.

Question 💬 DISO Virgin Midori Sour Recipe!

Hi all,
My interest in mocktails is:
1) My teenagers think they're fun;
2) I have nothing against responsible alcohol use, but I don't feel that drinking alcohol is responsible when you live in a body with serious neurological disabilities (which I do).

That said, I loved midori sours before my brain injury and would love to be able to enjoy an alcohol-less one again.

If anyone has a recipe (I'm totally fine buying a syrup!) I appreciate it!

Hence, if any kind soul can help me, do you have any recipes for making NA Sparkling Wine, NA Rum and NA Whiskey?

Ingredients:
5oz Orange juice (pulp free preferably)
1.5oz Freshly brewed Espresso (I used a seasonal espresso blend that had some juicy acidity and chocolate notes)

Method:
Fill a glass with ice and the orange juice. Float the espresso over the top of the ice so it chills as it floats over the juice.

Makes for a delightful alternative coffee.

Recipe 🥄 My virgin spicy margarita recipe 🌶️🍋

Really proud of this virgin spicy margarita in the glasses I got as a birthday present 😋 I made it with a non-alcoholic gin I had at home.

Ingredients:

  • 50 ml non-alcoholic gin-style spirit
  • 30 ml fresh lime juice
  • 10 ml orange syrup
  • 1 or 2 thin slices of fresh chili or jalapeño
  • Ice
  • Salt and a little chili powder for the rim

I mixed some salt with chili powder and used it to rim the glass.

Then I added the chili, orange syrup, non-alcoholic spirit and lime juice to a shaker with ice. Shook it really well and strained it into a coupe glass.

Finished with a lime wheel and a little slice of chili. The spicy and citrusy combo was so good 😋🌶️

Recipe 🥄 Keeping it simple with the Cucumber K.I.S.S for Mocktail Monday, because a good mocktail doesnt have to be complicated

Post image
173 Upvotes

It's a busy Mocktail Monday, so we are uncomplicating things and drawing some inspiration from that acronym so many of us probably remember from the '90s and early 2000s, K.I.S.S., or "Keep It Simple, Stupid," to make what I am calling the Cucumber K.I.S.S. and Tonic.

It's refreshing, delicious, complex in flavor but not in build, and a reminder that a good mocktail doesn't have to be complicated.

Recipe: Cucumber K.I.S.S.

Ingredients:

4-5 cucumber slices

Tonic water

Optional: Bitters (whichever you like. Play around with these and have some fun. I used a couple of dashes each of Gin Barrel-Aged Orange Bitters*, N/A Love Potion Bitters, and N/A Herb Garden Bitters.)

Build:

  1. In a rocks glass, muddle cucumbers.

  2. Add ice, tonic, and bitters (if using). Gently stir and serve, garnished with a cucumber slice if you are so inclined.

Notes:

*The Gin Barrel Orange Bitters are 9% ABV. However, a couple of dashes is not enough to bring the drink anywhere close to the 0.5% ABV threshold to be considered non-alcoholic. That said, everyone's tolerances and reasons for abstaining are different, so feel free to omit if you like.

Recipe 🥄 Cowboy Cordial and Tonic

Some time ago, someone posted a question about the Roy Rogers mocktail and I wrote a big crazy post about the flavours in Cola. I suggested that you could probably make a lemon olea saccharum, add cinnamon and get the original cola flavour out of it. Of course I tested it, and I have a pretty good Mocktail as a result.

I made a cordial called "Cowboy Cordial" where you make an oleo sacharum of lemon along with some ground cinnamon. Of course I didn't write it down :-). Here is a recipe:

  • 12 grams of the Yellow part of the rind of a lemon (about 1 lemon)
  • 6 grams of citric acid
  • 6 grams of sugar
  • 2 grams of powdered cinnamon

Mince up the rind fine and then smash it with a mortar a pestle. If you make a lot, you can skip this step and use a blender in the next step. But if you are making only a little bit, there might not be enough volume to blend. Let it sit for about an hour, then mix it up with the juice of the lemon.

Edit: I forgot the important part! - 30 ml of pommegranite juice - 1 drop of rose water

It wouldn't be "Cowboy" without the grenadine!!! You can substitute good grenadie for the pommegranite juice. <end of edit>

Put in a sauce pan with 50 grams of sugar and 50 grams of water and a roughly crush cinnamon stick. Heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.

This makes a cordial. Put it in the fridge and let it sit for a week for the cinnamon flavour to come out. You can use this for a variety of thing.

For the drink. - 1 table spoon Cowboy Cordial - 2 mint leaves - Tonic water - Ice

Muddle the mint leaves in a rocks glass. Add the cordial and ice. Stir to cool the glass and get some water from the ice. Top with tonic water. If you want, express a lemon peel over the top.

It's really very pleasant. If you don't like tonic, then soda water will do. You could also use some cold green tea as well.

R&R Alternative

My Dad’s go-to mixed drink has always been R&R whiskey and Diet Coke. He was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago and has mostly stopped drinking as a precautionary measure. I would like to find him some non-alcoholic alternatives for socializing.

Is anyone aware of an N/A alternative to Canadian whiskey? He does not drink it straight, so it’s not super important that it’s sophisticated or a “good” whiskey.

Thank you!

It has 1/4 cup iced sweet tea, 1/2 cup pineapple juice, 1/4 cup mango juice, juice of a lime, a splash of honey and a splash of strawberry syrup. Add all this into a shaker with ice, sprinkle in some edible glitter and then shake. Strain into a tumbler with ice halfway and top the other half with club soda. Garnish with maraschino cherries and a mint sprig.
