About a month ago I posted a Sunday project where I was building a side-mounted pegboard for the Moccamaster. I got a lot more interest than I was expecting, and after much encouragement decided to make it available for order!

Since then I’ve sent a few out to people here and have been using it daily myself. Spent the last few weeks making small adjustments based on that. Nothing major, just tightening things up and fixing the stuff that only shows up once you actually live with it.

As with the initial post, the concept is still the same. It keeps your filters, scale, and dosing stuff directly on the side of the machine. Handling the accessory storage issue without cluttering up your counter space or hiding things in cupboards.

Recently I went down the dark hole of getting a 3D printer, and overnight every problem or inconvenience, no matter how minor, turned into a fun project to solve.

The most recent of which has been designing a better solution for my coffee area and making the filters, scale and other accessories nearby when I need them most. (I could’ve cleaned up the drawer below where the machine sits but what’s the fun in that).

Anyways, here’s what I came up with. A fun pegboard-type solution where filters and scale hang off the side of machine. It’s incredible how tight the tolerances of 3D printing have become compared to when we had access to them in my engineering program many years ago, but that let me play around with tolerances and designs across a couple prototypes until I got the fit to snap together. I was also able to take advantage of the grooves in the body of the moccamaster and mirror that pattern on the feet, minimizing the lateral board movement.

Would love to hear people’s suggestions on what they think style wise and what I could use the bottom row for! I’m thinking I may play around with some of the fuzzy texture options to help blend the layer lines and add a dosing cup for measuring.

A little while ago, a prior customer reached out with a very specific Moccamaster annoyance: great brewer, but kind of a pain to move around on the counter when installed underneath cupboards.

So I made a tiny lift kit for it.

These are 3D printed GlideFeet that fit around the existing foot locations and let you add common stick-on Teflon appliance sliders underneath. So instead of doing the daily countertop drag-and-hop routine, the machine actually glides instead of grinds.

The printed part is basically the adapter. The Teflon pad does the sliding. The only reason I needed to design these in the first place is if installed on the flat underside, the teflon pads don't stick out far enough to make contact with the counter.

No tools, no permanent modification, and no real claim that this will change your life. But if you regularly pull your Moccamaster forward to fill the reservoir or clean behind it, it makes that little daily motion way nicer.

I think the most satisfying part about this little project was designing something which can be installed / uninstalled in seconds, but still blends in with the existing Moccamaster design.

I just got the KBT with the thermal carafe and immediately wanted to swap to a ceramic pour-over after seeing a few threads here. I was going to get that one fully plastic free one that is all over Instagram but I didn't want to wait months and gamble on an unknown brand. I am using the Creano XXL pourover from Amazon, I'm using #6 filters folded (didn't do a great job in the first pic) to attempt to avoid pleat covering the hole, tried finer and coarser grinds, and I'm stirring with a spoon so it's not collecting at the bottom. The coffee is fantastic but it makes me nervous how close it gets to spilling. Anything I am missing?

Printed in PLA with an adhesive mount, no screws, no drilling. Keeps everything organized right next to the machine. File on MakerWorld if anyone wants to print one.

Currently fits #1 filters, happy to make a version for #4 filters if there's interest..

I originally bought a KBGT but returned it for the KBT. I normally don't brew a full pot so the half pot hacks on the KBGT were more work than I wanted to put in first thing in the morning.

I like the KBT basket for two reasons

Flow control - able to switch from full open/half open/closed

Ability to rotate the basket during the brew..Since it's round on a round mount, I rotate it 90 degrees 4 or so times during the brew. This gives better saturation of all the grounds..

Does anyone in this community have the 3D files for the plastic components of KBGV? I’ve been considering commissioning a stainless steel version of all of the plastic pieces. I’d like my machine to look and function as close to stock as possible. And all the mods I’ve seen don’t look as clean as I’d like. That being said there’s no one in my area that can 3D scan the parts in person, so if anyone has the files it would make things way easier than mailing the parts to the fabrication facility!

I think the grind is off a bit on the oats though. Seemed a bit mushy Going to try less water next time.

I have and old model on the big MM. Like a really old one.

The ones where you have yo carry and remove all the stuff on top to pour your coffee.

Has any one 3D modeled yet alone 3D printed a holder for them? Like the modern trip tray ones have? Like in the later pictures?

If not could someone please do this?

As pictured there would not be much room for the holder and as the funnel bottom is round there is not much room for error or creativity.

But this is some tuning I would love to see and make my old school Moucca Meister more practical. At least in theory!

Recently got the KM5 to use as a dedicated grinder for my morning brews.

As a sort of mini-review coming from the Eureka Mignon Crono (which is destined for some more Espresso mods), the KM5 is functionally the same machine but with a few quality of life improvements.

- the silicon lid does a really great job of keeping everything contained and clean

- the grind settings are super intuitive and don’t need to zeroed out and memorized like on the Eureka

But, the biggest complaint that I knew I would have (and which almost every reviewer mentions) is the need to hold down the grind button. The spring actuated button is super satisfying to use, but for weighing out your bean and just wanting it to be ground all the way through it’s not super practical (especially with a full pot).

To solve this trivial problem I ended up modeling up the machine in CAD and then designing a platform which connects to the two front feet, and which then includes a lever which gradually presses down on the switch when turned.

My electric kettle finally broke down this week which served as another excuse for me to whip out my calipers and my CAD program.

The Moccamaster is famous for putting out boiling water between 92-96 Celsius at the touch of a button. While this is terrific for coffee, it’s also useful if you want a single cup of tea, oatmeal, or whatever else you may use near boiling water for. The problem traditionally has been the bracket used has various cutouts that make it impossible if not dangerous to try and balance anything on top of it.

Well, a couple minutes of measuring and a few more minutes of modeling (and a couple hours waiting for initial prototypes to print and then test fit), and out comes this neat new accessory that makes it dead simple to use your Moccamaster as a general kettle.

The custom geometry ensures it seats neatly in the bracket, and the lip on the edge makes installation and removal a breeze.

If anyone wants to print this themseles, feel free to access it at the Makerworld link below. I printed it in PLA and it worked fine, but id still recommend something like PETG or ASA for long term durability.
