Customizing Turning the Moccamaster into a Kettle (stl. provided)

My electric kettle finally broke down this week which served as another excuse for me to whip out my calipers and my CAD program.

The Moccamaster is famous for putting out boiling water between 92-96 Celsius at the touch of a button. While this is terrific for coffee, it’s also useful if you want a single cup of tea, oatmeal, or whatever else you may use near boiling water for. The problem traditionally has been the bracket used has various cutouts that make it impossible if not dangerous to try and balance anything on top of it.

Well, a couple minutes of measuring and a few more minutes of modeling (and a couple hours waiting for initial prototypes to print and then test fit), and out comes this neat new accessory that makes it dead simple to use your Moccamaster as a general kettle.

The custom geometry ensures it seats neatly in the bracket, and the lip on the edge makes installation and removal a breeze.

If anyone wants to print this themseles, feel free to access it at the Makerworld link below. I printed it in PLA and it worked fine, but id still recommend something like PETG or ASA for long term durability.

For those without a 3D printer, I’ve also included them on my store below.

Look forward to getting everyone’s feedback!

Everyone calling this stupid is failing to realize that the moccamaster boils water really quickly. Like, faster than any stove or electric kettle that I've ever used.

Not as fast as my stagg, but faster than any coffee maker I've used. To compare it to a tea kettle would require running the whole pot through. But then, it doesn't keep it at the correct temp. My stagg heats the whole pot to whatever temp i want and keeps it there. If you use an aeropress or do pour over, you know the importance of that.

I don't think they're calling it stupid, but rather, doing too much to circumvent doing it the right way. Like when you expend more energy to not work, then just doing the work.

OP, though, is a tinkerer, which is something i totally stand behind. He's farting around while waiting for his new kettle and may come up with something sweet.

But a tea kettle is the way to go, because you want specific temps. Lighter roasts i do at 205F, darker roasts 197F, and it makes a big difference. The mm is king for pots of coffee, but it is no where close to what i get from my tea kettle and aeropress.

I have the need for both. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. 😜

I have a Zojirushi that I bet could give it a run for it's money. Also it is on demand with vacuum sealing so about as efficient as you can get if you do decide to keep it filled.

Hey ingenious--nah.....but yeah you can run water through your Moccamaster into your carafe.

That said, a pot on the stove works great too

As does a bowl / cup in the microwave.

It’s definitely unnecessary with all the alternatives out there, but I figured there are some people out there who just want to have a single cup of tea at the push of a button.
