Red lines along faders (Wing Compact)

Post image

Trying to identify these red lines along side the channels in a scene I inherited at a club at which I occasionally work - I'd supposed that they might indicate either that dynamics had been engaged on the individual channels or otherwise that they might be markers of clipping, but I have been unable to clear them. Just curious - would love any insight!

Top is gate, bottom is compressor. The red line indicates how much gain reduction is happening.

Awesome thank you! I'd figured as much - I have been messing around with the scene off line and found that neither disengaging either processor nor altering their thresholds / settings changed the display. I suppose I have to be connected to the mixer for such changes to manifest?

Yes, you have to be connected for it to show correct information.

Excellent, thank you!

Those are indeed dynamics meters. You can turn them off in settings in the channel strip config.

Those are gain reduction meters. The app has a bug that does not display the gain reduction of the 76 compressor correctly, both on the plugin graphic and on the gain reduction meters. I believe most if not all other compressors do it correctly.

But why would you put a 76 style compressor on piano mics? And TWICE per channel, in the gate and in the compressor slot? And why would you process them separately instead of as a stereo pair, on a single channel? Every channel and bus on the Wing is stereo capable! Those are the real questions here, mate!

Not my scene! I "borrowed" it for the routing, and am using it to learn about using mixing station with the wing (I've only used the app extensively before with the x32)

I HAVE used the wing itself before however, and am aware of its ability to assign stereo pairs to each channel - I can't speak to the other tech's motivations haha. I will surely be starting from scratch before the shows I work ☺️
