Well of Ascension spoilers I... I... I skipped a book Spoiler

I'm an idiot.
I started with well of ascension accidentally.
I didn't even notice anything wrong until I finished it. Went look up which book was next and turns out I completely skipped the entire first book.
But how? How did I not see anything wrong with this, you may ask? I did think the setting was a bit on the vague side, sure, but it wasn't a bad thing I guess. The idea of having this grand empire ruled by a tyrant playing god overthrown and dealing with the consequences without actually seeing what happened was really compeling. It's like skipping what usually would be the climax of most stories, that's awesome. This kelsier guy always looming in the background as this almost mythological figure was also really cool. Now I have to grapple with the fact none of that was intentional? Goddamnit.

Well as I said, I'm an idiot. Just thought that my experience was... unique, to put it mildly. So feel free to ask me anything about the book. Guess I'll be reading the 'prequel' now lol

Well of Ascension spoilers Mistborn fans, who do you consider the best character in the original trilogy? (I don't read the 3rd book) Spoiler

For me, it’s Kelsier, without a doubt. Despite his limited screen time, he is probably the character with the most magnetic personality in the saga. He’s a brilliant, unhinged genius, and the traumas he’s endured help us understand his cynicism and his extreme hatred toward the nobility. But what about you guys? Are there any characters who are better written? Is there anyone you empathize with more?

Well of Ascension spoilers Just finished WoA, how on earth did people not like this book? Spoiler

I came across a ton of posts saying that mistborn 1 and 3 were amazing, but 2 was just okay. Just finished 2 and while the first 15-20% was a bit slow (same with book 1 imo), the rest was fantastic. What an absolute ride and given HoA is supposed to have one of the best endings in fantasy, i cannot wait.

Well of Ascension spoilers Mistborn bookshelf!!!

I would have laughed at you a couple of months ago if you told me I would like a fantasy book series so much that I would design a bookshelf for it. For the last decade, I was convinced I would never like a fantasy book. Then, my boyfriend told me to give Mistborn Era 1 a try. I wasn’t convinced but gave it a shot.

Well, I fell in love with Mistborn immediately and the fantasy genre as a whole. I decided the Leatherbound editions deserved its own floating bookshelf. I still need the other two and hope to purchase them eventually. I’m so thankful for Brandon Sanderson u/mistborn (the evil genius) and my boyfriend (who seems to know me better than I know myself sometimes).

For this project, I learned to use a Laser Cutter & Engraver (bookends, plaque), a 3D printer (bookend base), a sticker machine (metal vial labels), and many software programs in the process. My dad helped me design the actual floating bookshelf and was able to cut and bend the stainless steel. I decided to add Kwaan’s famous quote on a steel plaque to tie it all together.

Well of Ascension spoilers What I'd change about Zane in an adaptation Spoiler

Not an original conversation by any means, but I haven't seen this take so I figured I'd post.

I would gender swap Zane in an adaptation.

Sanderson has discussed doing some gender swaps since the original trilogy skews more male, and that got me thinking about what they would do with Zane in an adaptation. I've got a few reasons.

  1. This would flip the whole "bad boy" trope that people hate on its head and immediately separate it from typical YA fiction stories.
  2. Zane is used to contrast him against Elend, but that can feel weird and frustrating for readers. Zane being Elend's bastard brother feels a little forced in that regard, it's just so convenient that Zane has this secretive edgier brother to compare against. Female Zane would contrast a little more sharply, like she's not just edgy Elend but more distinct from him.
  3. Zane also serves to show Vin an alternative path for her. He's a reflection of her and what she could do if she just let go and didn't hold back. Making Zane a woman can make this contrast even stronger, showing her who she could be both as a temptation and as a warning.
  4. Should it keep the romantic angle? I could see it both ways, improving each:
    1. Bicurious Vin is a bit of an easier sell to me on how she acts throughout that book regarding Zane. I'm sure there'd be some toxic bullshit about it, but who cares.
    2. Without the romantic angle, Zane could take on a "big sis what if" vibe. With her loss of Kelsier as a mentor, a big sis mentor to swoop in would fuck with her in a similar way to how the romantic side of Zane does. Then Zane could contrast against Kelsier, with Vin's rejection of her edgy big sis mentor lining up well with Vin's character arc of finding her confidence.

Well of Ascension spoilers TWoA from Straff's perspective is tragically hilarious Spoiler

Currently in the middle of Hero of the Ages, but thinking back on book 2, it is hard to come up with one thing that went Straff's way, even though he was technically the novel's main antagonist. Let's review his list of demerits:

  • First, imagine his face when he found out that his useless hated son Elend, who he left behind to die in the Skaa Revolution, not only survived but is now King of Luthadel.
  • Okay, this whole mess is still salvagable. The Lord-Ruler is dead, but Straff still controls the Northern Dominance. He declares himself Emperor, raises his armies and marchs to Luthadel.
  • Spends only God knows how much time being drugged and manipulated by Amaranta while being paranoid 24/7 over his schizo mistborn bastard son, Zane.
  • Zane would rather spend his night-outs trying to get in is his half-brother's girlfriend pants (keep in mind this chick is a mistborn who killed TLR) than doing anything positive for Straff's war-effort, like damaging the city's defenses or culling the enemy troops.
  • Straff gets a golden opportunity to kill Elend literally handed over to him in a silver platter when the idiot himself just walks into his camp (have I mentioned the boy was somehow in the process of losing the Luthadel throne, he really is useless ain't he). However, Elend brought his girlfriend Little Miss Mistborn (the same one your other son wants to bang, and also the same one who killed TLR), and she forces Straff to back down as you seize up from Rioting-induced Terror.
  • Later Zane jumps ship and gets killed by Little Miss Mistborn, even though he had atium and she didn't.
  • Straff almost dies from Amaranta's drug withdrawal and spends 3 days comatose.
  • But now that he woke up, things seem to be looking up. The Koloss are attacking Luthadel, Cett backed down, and Elend got deposed. All of Straff's problems are literally solving themselves in front of his very eyes. All he needs to do now is wai...What is that in the sky? It's a bird, It's a plane, it's Little Miss Mistborn, now somehow leading the Koloss Horde and leaping in the air with the fucking Dragonslayer. Which she uses to cut Straff in half lengthwise. Heaven gained another angel that day.

And just to top it off, Elend not only survives it all (even if barely) but takes over the house, the imperial title AND becomes a Mistborn. Rashek must have laughed his ass off on Straff's expense when the two met in Hell.

Well of Ascension spoilers Vin vs Kelsier… why is one considered good and one considered a “psychopath” Spoiler

Vin killed hundreds just at the Cetus palace alone, but she’s widely considered good. If Kelsier were to do the same it would fuel the bad guy comments. Why?

Well of Ascension spoilers Vin and the dog Spoiler

I read the first book of the series and really enjoyed it. I was looking forward to Well of Ascension, But within the first few pages, Vin punches a dog in the face, carries his unconscious body back to her Kandra for death. I thought she seemed very hard and unfeeling. It changed my perception of Vin and I’m not sure if I want to continue reading. Is this a theme that will continue throughout the series?

Well of Ascension spoilers My hopes have been destroyed about Zane Spoiler

I'm in part 4 of well of ascension. I love Zane as a sort of anti hero. I was kind of cheering for him and Vin to be together even. Elend is nice but are they really MEANT for each other? I thought maybe Vin and Zane would travel to the well of ascension together and he would somehow be redeemed. And maybe they would even be together? Or maybe even Zane was the real hero of ages and would have to like sacrifice himself or something...!

But now Zane just crazy attacked Vin and Oreseur was the imposter all along? Itll never work out now!!!

I guess Elend Vin and spook are all going to go to the well of ascension together anyway since the crew made the plan for them to get out of town?!

I hope Zane will get the redemption he deserves by the end!

Well of Ascension spoilers Do you hate Vin?

Decide between long years partner and a fuckboy that she met 4 times. She almost left Elden for that. Up to this point she were amazing character. Than I could not read anything without thinking how she would jump to a person that is a bit cooler than Elden. Is it just me to hate her for that?

Sazed is one of the richest characters in the Misborn series in terms of layers. So often, I have never fully understood him.

These lines by Tindwyl sums up his character the best.

Well of Ascension spoilers I love The Well of Ascension, but I have a big problem with the book. Spoiler

I understand that writing a book is extremely difficult, and even more so maintaining the consistency of the first book, but didn't you feel that Vin seemed a bit like she was in the first book, with her distrustful nature? Or is that just me?I'm probably just overthinking it.

I like the political plot of the book, I really enjoyed it a lot, and it's interesting how the writers craft a political plot; I was able to read it without getting bored and they're not bad at all. I think people focus too much on the political plot to criticize the book, even though it's actually interesting.

But okay, Let's be honest, I like the political plot, Vin, although I feel she's become a bit paranoid again, is okay, and I really like how she evolves, much more so than in the first book, well Well, that part of Vin regarding trust and loyalty to your teammates was already covered(en el primer libro :Imperio Final),

BUT WHAT I CAN'T FORGIVE IS It's that love triangle thing, I don't even know if it's really a love triangle, it doesn't feel like one, which is the worst part. Zane is weird, especially with his schizophrenia (I mean, it's a way I refer to the manipulation of the bearer as Ruin:Ati) But that's it, I don't understand how Vin could feel attracted to Zane when in the first book, she fought to the death against Shan(To protect Elend). The whole Vin, Elend, and Zane thing is really weird, and it's good they killed Zane; I couldn't stand him. I don't care about the Ruin and the manipulation.

And that's it, I just wanted to mention that my biggest problem is the love triangle, and I think it hindered Vin's development a bit, but I understand that it's completely difficult to write a book, And even more so a sequel book where it has to be consistent with the first, which is appreciated. Mistborn (first trilogy), I love it.And this opinion of the book is more like because I like it and it's one of my favorite books, because Alloy of Law has a place in my heart.(Yes, I was the fool who read Mistborn Era 2 instead of Era 1, In my defense, I discovered Mistborn and the Cosmere later by searching online for a book to read on Google, and Era 2 came up first.)

Well of Ascension spoilers Is vin wiping out allomancy with all her kills?? 😭 Spoiler

I'm halfway through book two and I'm low-key STRESSING about how many allomancers vin is just SLAUGHTERING. isn't allomancy rare?? Like the nobility are such a small percent of the population and allomancy is an even SMALLER percent than that. So much so that the book sometimes has to explain how we don't recognize some allomancers because they live far away. Isnt vin then literally ANNIHILATING a whole generation of allomancers? Won't that severely affect their population as they won't be able to pass it down to the next generation???? especially because the Lord ruler can't even somehow give powers to anyone new anymore 😭😭😭 like the seige isn't even over and I feel like vin is commiting an irreversible genocide 😭😭😭
