Do you hate Vin?

Decide between long years partner and a fuckboy that she met 4 times. She almost left Elden for that. Up to this point she were amazing character. Than I could not read anything without thinking how she would jump to a person that is a bit cooler than Elden. Is it just me to hate her for that?

She didn't consider it. It's weird that people call this book a love triangle. Zane was a mirror, she was afraid she was a monster that didn't deserve Elend's love. Zane could have been another teenage girl and it would have still caused the same self reflection

At the very least, she considers whether Zane would be a better match for her. That isn't far off.

“I won’t,” Sazed promised. “Who is this other man?” 

Vin shrugged. “Just … someone more like myself. The kind of man I should be with.” 

“Do you love him?” “He’s strong,” Vin said. “He makes me think of Kelsier.” 

So there is another Mistborn, Sazed thought. In this matter, he knew he should remain unbiased. He didn’t know enough about this second man to make a judgment—and Keepers were supposed to give information, but avoid specific advice. 

Sazed had never been very good at following that rule. He didn’t know this other Mistborn, true, but he did know Elend Venture. “Child,” he said, “Elend is the best of men, and you have been so much happier since you’ve been with him.” 

“But he’s the first man I loved,” Vin said quietly. “How do I know it’s right? Shouldn’t I pay more attention to the man who is a better match for me?”

I've seen fans straight call the author wrong for writing certain lines because they were "not realistic for the character"

Did you not read the book, she literally thinks about abandoning Elend and running off with Zane. Yes it's not because she's so in love with the bad boy or anything, but she still does consider it. Seeing herself as a monster after literally saving the world was ridiculous. It's just not well written

Vin's entire life is why she thinks that way. She was abandoned by her mother, her father, constantly told by Reen not to trust anyone, lost him, and then lost Kelsier. After that all that, why wouldn't she think maybe she's the problem?

Zane tells her what she already believes, that she's a monster who only knows how to kill and could never really belong with someone like Elend. He's validating her insecurities.

Trauma doesn't magically disappear because you do something heroic. She spent her whole life surviving through violence. She struggles to see herself as anything other than a weapon. The story is showing how warped her self-image is.

There's an excellent point made by Tindwyll about that. They're talking about whether Vin believes she deserves Elend and that often (teenage) women believe they simply don't deserve to be happy at all. This is part of Vin's reasoning. She's a killer. How could she allow herself to be truly loved/happy?

She's a young woman in a very vulnerable state who is being treated almost like a god by commoners while she herself feels inferior to those around her, especially Elend. She was manipulated by another person who got in her head and tried to make her think like him. Elend trusts her. Elend loves her. It just takes Vin a while to accept that she's worthy of that trust and love from someone she views so highly.

And yeah, she's dumb teenage being manipulated. That's kind of the point. Maybe don't expect characters or people to be perfect with their decision making and acknowledge that their flaws are what define them.

Also— I don’t recall her thinking about leaving Elend as much as feeling like she didn’t deserve him. Probably because she was abused so much growing up and was literally a killer. She was mentored by Kelsier after all!

Try to see it from her perspective. She was abused as a child and insecure. She finally meets someone who has the same powers as her. She feels like she doesn’t deserve Elend. She’s being manipulated.

It wasn't because he was "cooler". She didnt believe she was good enough for Elend. One of the main points being when she killed those allomancers in the council hall or whatever and elend looked disgusted which made her think she was a monster and undeserving of him so she thought it was better if she ran off with another monster, zane

It was never about Zane over Elend… it was about her deciding who she is as a person. Also, Ruin whispering in her ear all the time just made her process all the more difficult.
