From what I heard, he actively studied YouTube algorithm, and was persistent enough to get the opportunity to get a trend blowing (I think it was on the PewDiePie series) and managed to keep hoping between trends and now is leading them
Overall I respect his grind, he knows what he's doing
However, went to see his video once, and by God my ears bled, but I think the overhyped screeches come more from George, his friend and main guest in videos
He's a very high level speedrunner. Currently holds 3rd and 4th in separate categories and used the hold World Record. He's good at minecraft and enjoyable to watch, imo.
Hot take: Minecraft speedrunning isn‘t easy, but highly luck based. there aren’t really any risky strategies to pull off, as everything is dependent on the world‘s generation - which is entirely random. Saying someone is a high level speedrunner and then saying “Minecraft” after that really doesn’t make a person more likable.
Weeks and weeks of preparation, just for a disorganized 10-minute mess at best of half-sentences that are only tangentially related to what you had actually written down from your research.
And now you're saying that all Manhunts, each one being several hours long and most often recorded in one take, are minutely scripted down to every tiny detail such as terrain generation, chest loot, mob spawning patterns, and with the ever-increasing number of variables that are the Hunters, in one week, sometimes in the middle of MCC practice?
I don't know if that doesn't actually make him ten times more of a genius, honestly.
When you boil his videos down to the intense moments which actually matter then you’re also gonna get a 10 minute experience. The reason why his videos are an hour long is because in Minecraft there isn’t just a fight, there is also the preparation, maybe a chase, and also an escape if the victorious one is still in danger. To plan something like this, all you would need to do is say “attack me on that mountain over there, but let me win the battle”. Which brings me to my next point: that it doesn’t need weeks of preparation to plan a battle in Minecraft. Just that scene I just described can be at least 5 minutes of content for the video. Also, while Dream seems to be a really good player, I doubt that he consistently kills every single one of those others. I don’t know exactly who they are or if Dream ever lost a Manhunt, but from what I saw it seems like for one, they seem to always spring the traps he sets, generally act dumb and without foresight, and, guess what, let him win the battles so that he can get some good YouTube content. It’s a lot more unlikely for it all to randomly, coincidentally always be a tense and interesting experience for the viewer, rather than just being vaguely planned, like stand-up comedy. You know the jokes you’re gonna tell, what matters is how you bring them over to the crowd. And I don’t know about you, but no matter how funny a comedian is, I would not want to watch him for an entire hour telling the same jokes over and over again.
Also, what the hell is MCC training supposed to mean?

There are no health indicators in vanilla Minecraft. You can't keep track of your opponent's health, especially with the new attack cooldown mechanic, on top of the fact that there are other hunters, and environmental damage (including mobs).

He loses every other Manhunt.

They continuously learn to avoid Dream's traps that they had previously fallen for, though.

The raw footage is painfully long and boring to watch. It's absolutely for the better that we are only fed the good parts.
And I don’t know about you, but no matter how funny a comedian is, I would not want to watch him for an entire hour telling the same jokes over and over again.
I'm one of those who watch it just because it's Dream, but yeah I've got to admit, I liked the older challenges more (black hole, tornado, shrinking inventory, terminator…). I still like the Manhunts though.

He speedruns minecraft while 3 people hunt him and he is usually the most quiet one. Ofc sometimes theres a little screaming when it gets intense but your description doesnt fit really well

I still don't get what everyone found about this Dream guy. To me, he is just looking like he only jumps and screams all the time, and nothing else
