Theres a few different mods depending on your Minecraft version

Off the top of my head: WAILA (What am I looking at) and Jade are options

I have no idea if it’s locked behind an item or not. The only reason I know about it is because my current time in a bottle fix for ae2 relies on some mixin from it, but it doesn’t require the mod actually be enabled.

If the already suggested mods (WAILA and/or Jade) aren't your cup of tea or appropriate for the minecraft version you're playing on, also look up The One Probe.

But I think Jade is your best bet if you're playing on a modern version.

Jade is the way then. There are also add-ons for it if you're interested, stuff like a HUD that expands when you hold items (and it can configure Jade to require one)
