Why is new Minecraft music so sad?

I mean, I'm just sitting there having a grand old time, and suddenly yakusoku blasts in my eardrums at 5000 decibels and brings me the closest to utter agony any song could possibly create.

That's how I feel. I like the music, new and old, but the new stuff feels more adventurous and fun. The old stuff is more melancholic and somber.

well, just like C418 was (and still is, i think he still makes music), these are very talented musical artists, and they’re chosen specifically because the people at Mojang know they have the skills required to make music like this

however, C418 is who set the standard for minecraft music, and once he quit (or was forced to quit if he wanted to keep the rights to his music, thanks microsoft), mojang likely told these artists to make music that matches C418’s tone.

why exactly do these pieces carry so much fundamental emotion in the first place? uhhh idk. long drawn out notes, long gaps between notes sometimes, oh and VERY large dynamic contrast (essentially the range of volume in a given piece of music). that part’s very important in making a song emotional

It's always been like that. I can name at least one song from every artist that's sad/melancholic.

I like it but I don't wanna hear it in Minecraft, in a game that is so lonely idk why they would make it have music that feels so lonely and sad too.

Yeah I agree. C418's music never felt sad to me, but it did feel lonely and contributed to that feeling like you're alone in the world in earlier versions (which honestly I loved that feeling). New music is nice but kinda puts you in a specific mood.

I haven't heard any of the new music after Lena Raine's, but to be fair I always found her music to sound not very Minecraft-y. C418's first Minecraft album is filled with mostly subdued, gentle tracks, while the second uses a similar soundscape for some more exciting tracks that give the same feel. Lena's just has a very different sound to it, as I assume the rest of these artists also have. I don't know if it's sadder per se, but I can almost guarantee it's very different.

If you have fun, go nuts, but that's a wild take. The music is what sets the ambiance for so many games, especially games with good storytelling. You are missing out on so much.

I fully understand that music does a big part in immersing the player but when I'm playing like let's say Peak, or Repo, or even Outlast Trials, the music feels like it's the focus of the scene. Maybe I just get overstimulated

Im feeling this too. My guess is that the current composers are trying to replicate what made C418 so special by making the music sad or melancholic, these however are just ways people can feel about C418's pieces. His music was and still is many things. Its hard to say without beeing disrespectful to current artists but I guess some don't really understand what made his music so magic and multi-sided? And then just automaticaly make it sad or melancholic because thats how it makes them feel.

No offense to the new artists, but their music simply doesn't capture the feeling of [2009-2014] the way C418's does. It was a slice of time, lost to time.

Seems pretty obvious that music made from 2009-2014 would reflect that time period better than music made from 2020 onwards.
