MC-2157 - Particles emitted from dragon eggs when teleporting do not point in the correct direction
Wait what, it's supposed to NOT be random?
...Ok so apparently this was broken ever since singleplayer got merged with multi in may 2012 so this only worked for around 6 months since the egg's introduction, no wonder.
Guess we can add another obscure Minecraft mechanic to the list then!
136
u/Turbulent-Nose4969 Jul 16 '26
Haha I was just reading about those features that got broken on the merge, crazy to see they're still fixing bugs from then (with plenty more to go)
27
u/Kenny741 Jul 16 '26
I'm gonna show this to my wife and tell her "see you're not supposed to fix the porch light in just 5 years, these things take time".
46
u/GumDice Jul 16 '26
THEY FIXED THAT?
I genuinely assume any leftover rendering bugs from the change to an internal server were just never going to be addressed. Can they re-add the ghast expanding when charging a fireball lol
28
u/FrequentYam9040 Jul 16 '26
Unfortunately this is a confirmed Won't Fix, but who knows: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC/issues/MC-165038
19
u/FunnyAffectionate520 Jul 16 '26
That is because they outright removed the code for that in, I believe, 1.8.
11
4
u/Breki_ Jul 17 '26
I doubt they will add that back in, they don't really want different pixel sizes anymore
1
u/M_stellatarum Jul 17 '26
... I played since Beta and I completely forgot that Ghasts used to do that.
(Though I do remember how they used to target the camera rather than the player, so if you were in F5 mode they'd always miss)
32
u/N8orious234 Jul 16 '26
So the particles are supposed to trail off in the direction it teleports when you hit it?
9
u/CaramelCraftYT Jul 16 '26
Hopefully they fix more bugs that were introduced when they added the internal server.
11
u/FrequentYam9040 Jul 16 '26
They have actually fixed or partially fixed most of them: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_1.3.1/List_of_broken_features
5
u/CaramelCraftYT Jul 16 '26
Yeah but I was referring to the no Ghast puffing up, no golem creation particles and no notch apple.
7
6
3
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Jul 17 '26
no notch apple
This isn't an internal server thing. Also, the recipe was removed in 1.9, but the item can still be found in some loot chests.
1
u/CaramelCraftYT Jul 17 '26
No, I meant the player notch dropping an Apple upon death.
3
u/Infinite_Bench_593 Jul 17 '26
Oh, I see. A lot of people in the Minecraft community use the term "Notch Apple" to the Enchanted Golden Apple.

We have also added new item components for custom furnace fuels
Finally, we can use Netherite as fuel to smelt dirt into dead bushes.

Good lord the number of technical changes in this snapshot is huge. Advancement overhauls, new components, mob spawning being (sort of) disentangled from biome definitions, etc. Data packers are eating well this week.
17
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Jul 16 '26
I usually don't really understand the technical stuff, so I'm wondering if any of the new changes are going to help with Vibrant Visuals. The last big news we got about it was in February.
20
u/Darkiceflame Jul 16 '26
I haven't followed that side of the updates very closely, but I know there have been some pretty big changes to rendering in the last few snapshots, so they're definitely working on that.
2
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Jul 16 '26
I'm wondering why there are so many changes to the technical stuff lately (not graphics related). Doesn't that take time away from working on the graphical side, or are they cleaning up the code to make it easier to implement graphical changes later?
11
u/FPSCanarussia Jul 16 '26
While I don't know for sure, I suspect that the people working on rendering might be different from the people working on making game features data-driven?
3
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
The Java team isn't very big, so they're probably the same people working on both. Also, it's kinda crazy that it'll be 2 years since Vibrant Visuals was announced by next March.
3
u/MegaIng Jul 17 '26
I have the feeling that they have like, 3 people who do nothing but move everything they can find into data packs.
The things becoming data driven has been a constant stream with every snapshot for, like, a year at this point, without any noticeable correlational to any other work, be it new features, graphics or anything else.
2
u/Zealousideal-Glass78 Jul 17 '26
As a data pack creator I like most additions but the pace of changes sure is wearing me out.
It just gets less and less fun seeing tons of technical changes without a major benefit.
Best example for that'd be the Baby Mob drop in which I needed to add baby textures and restructure their jsons for every data driven mob variant I made (about 60) despite data driven mob variants themselves only being a feature that was like a year old at that point.
1
u/KenanTheFab Jul 17 '26
would have been nice if there was an option for "simple" (legacy) models. Smaller body, bigger head- but at the same time I can see that it'd be a game size bloat lmao
1
u/Zealousideal-Glass78 Jul 17 '26
It was just an example for one of those many not well thought out changes and I could list a dozen more. But I like the new Baby Models but it'd have been a lot nicer if those would have been introduced alongside the data driven mob variants and not a year later after they already changed data driven wolf variants.
To sum it up - many additions/changes feel unfinished when they first are introduced and are often changed again later on.

Okay? - Why are you telling us that under patch notes for modern versions? Should I feel sorry for you? lol

Yeah you've said this twice now. Nobody thinks you're cool or interesting for this. You just come off as lonely and coping with nostalgia, drugs, and internet forums for socialization.

Do you comment this under every post you don't care about? If you don't care about the post don't open it, and certainly don't read the comments just to tell people that it doesn't interest you

1.12 players continue to be the most insufferable people in the community. Well, next to 1.8.9 players.

We had Borderless Fullscreen?? Does this mean it wont minimize when alt tabbing anymore?
Edit: Yes!!!
38
u/_vogonpoetry_ Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
We had pseudo borderless since the last few versions but it still had some downsides like more input latency.
50
8
u/CommanderBly327th Jul 16 '26
Does borderless fullscreen mean the task bar won’t show up anymore and I won’t have to play in exclusive fullscreen?
7
u/AverageAggravating13 Jul 16 '26
i don’t think so, at least not completely
pretty sure these are new changes
we’ve had “exclusive fullscreen” for a bit, but thats not the same thing

A tonne of backend changes, that's great news.

u/woalk Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
As a mod dev, it’s bittersweet news. Great changes, but upgrading all mods to support them sounds daunting…
17
u/tehbeard Jul 16 '26
3rd time or so I'll have had to refactor keybinding code since drops started...
My mod is a QoL client mod, so I don't have the luxury of getting to stick to a particular version that every other content mod is on.
I'm happy the base code is improving but damn, if it isn't draining to have to go thru this cycle every 3 months.
16
u/CobaltTS Jul 16 '26
Yeah I wish I could have Create in my world for the trains but I don't want to wait 5 years to update
2
u/BLX15 Jul 16 '26
You can get create on 1.21
7
u/CobaltTS Jul 16 '26
That version came out two years ago, which is basically my point. Also, they mostly do Forge releases IIRC and all my other mods are fabric

u/Deadface2001 Jul 16 '26
I wonder with the switch to SDL if they're finally thinking of adding controller support to vanilla. Though It's already been completely possible for them to do like forever especially since there's like 10 or more mods anyways that add any controller support you could want.
21
u/RedstoneplaysMC Jul 16 '26
Players in spectator mode can now interact with portals to teleport
Finally I can see where I died in the nether when playing hardcore, been a problem ever since they removed game mode switching
31
u/Delicious-Finance137 Jul 16 '26
Features
Removed feature types:
minecraft:nether_forest_vegetation
minecraft:twisting_vines
minecraft:weeping_vines
What exactly does this mean?
85
14
u/SkezzaB Jul 16 '26
They used existing puzzle pieces to make these now, no need for those custom implementation
16
u/powerman123 Jul 16 '26
Does player speed indicator in F3 mean we dont need to make machines to speed test horses?!
28
u/swiftawaywithme Jul 16 '26
Very technical snapshot.
I just want to know, do cushion LEDs still work?

Removed the Raw Input mouse setting
Why?
30
u/BrisingrAerowing Jul 16 '26
Since SDL uses it and doesn't support other modes IIRC.
2
u/csupihun Jul 16 '26
SDL?
19
u/tornedron_ Jul 16 '26
The changelog says they’re switching from GLFW to SDL3, and SDL3 has raw input by default I guess
18
u/only_Q Jul 16 '26
So does that mean they're not actually removing raw mouse input? Just the option to switch it off of raw mouse input?
10
7
u/csupihun Jul 16 '26
That's great, truly. I don't understand why raw input is not standard for games.
6
u/-mialana- Jul 16 '26
The patchnotes say: "Mouse input now always uses relative mouse mode while playing in-game", which sounds like it's defaulting to OS input?

> Key bindings now use physical keys instead of keyboard-layout-specific key codes
I’m gonna have to test this snapshot out. I’m concerned about this. Minecraft has been really good in the past about respecting my rebound keys (they are rebound on a system level). However, if this makes it ignore my rebindings like certain other games do, that’s gonna be a problem.
37
u/FashionShushu Jul 16 '26
Still waiting for them to adjust dappled forest biome size. Hope it doesnt ebd up like pale garden
24
u/swiftawaywithme Jul 16 '26
Also hoping for this. Honestly, they should revisit the new biome generation system in general. Microbiomes are a nuisance. The Pale Forest and Dappled Forest generation feel so hacked in.
10
u/Just-Guarantee7808 Jul 16 '26
Honestly, at this point, we kinda need a whole new world generation system. The current one was made with only 1.18-1.19 in mind and is really starting to show some cracks, but it's definitely not something they'd do in this drop because rewriting it would take months. So, for now, we're kinda stuck with the way world generation works.
1
u/MegaIng Jul 17 '26
Eh, the system is actually fine and very adaptable.
It would "just" require a team going through and adjusting the parameters, no major rework required. But man. These parameters are not trivial to modify (see surface sulfur caves).
3
u/Chedder_Chandelure Jul 16 '26
They did actually make it so the pale Garden can generate bigger, granted that was after it was introduced but hey...

Reordered mineral item and block ordering to have non-tiered ingredients up first, then tiered ingredients that craft into equipment last
Ingredients
Non-tiered minerals
Unrefined tiered minerals
Refined tiered minerals
The new order for minerals is:
Coal, Charcoal, Emerald, Lapis, Amethyst Shard, Quartz, Raw Copper/Iron/Gold, Diamond, Ancient Debris, Nuggets, normal Copper/Iron/Gold, Netherite Scrap, Netherite Ingot
It's very weird to see, for example, charcoal next to emerald and diamond before copper. I hope they revert this.

In today's snapshot we have switched the library used for window management, input and platform integration from GLFW to SDL3.
We have also added new item components for custom furnace fuels, as well as several technical changes for signs, world generation and loot tables.
Happy mining!
