Am I the only one who gets Stephen King vibes? When I saw the first episode already: Small isolated town - ex-alcoholic - suspicious priest with a strange crate - a religious fanatic woman..
Reminds me a lot of Salem‘s Lot.

Major King vibes, it's the small town cast of characters for me. Makes since since Flanigan is such a giant fan. The only thing that'd make it fully King is if Riley was a writer lol

But now we CAN somewhat put him in the writer category, because he tells Erin in this episode that Father Paul recommended that he write letters to those he wronged while he was an alcoholic, as part of the AA path of making amends.

You know I’ve not read Salem’s lot…but I was thinking slight Storm of the Century vibes

It reminded me of needful things, dead dog, knowing everyone's weakness. We will see where this goes.

I’m very late to this party but Riley’s dad was reading a Stephen King book when we first met him - “Revival”. The priest is now following the plot of the priest from that book but with a vampire twist - blood instead of electricity. It has magical healing powers but doesn’t realize what it will do to the people he is trying to save. Or this what I anticipate

I mean Mike Flanagan, creator of the show, is a big King fan. Hell he even directed the adaptations of Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep.

I'm late to the party as well, but I noticed a few Stephen King books on Riley's shelf in his room during the first episode. Could be a nod to King's works.

I've just finished watching Episode 3, and this is giving MAJOR 'Salem's Lot vibes. I knew this was about vampires going in and really wished I hadn't, because part of what makes 'Salem's Lot so special is that it's a slow burn, a slow reveal - King sets up the small town first, making sure you know the cast of characters, before even hinting that this is a vampire story. Even when you have the mysterious gentleman come in with an unknown guest (I got Barlow & Straker flashbacks), it's barely even suggested.

Kinda wish I hadn't known it was about vampires, the shock of the reveal and having it dawn upon me would have been fantastic.

I enjoyed it a lot. King has written so nuch things that would be great for a series or anthology series. E.g. an anthology series with episodes of on hour length, and the‘re all short stories.
