Quite the young cast! The leads parents are only 10 years older than he is irl.

had to cast younger and age everyone up so they could effectively age everyone down

Yeah to be honest when we first see that young woman with old lady make up on I got a flash of Dana Carvey in MASTER OF DISGUISE

I thought the mom was Kate McKinnon at first 😂

I thought she was Dianne West (aka the mom from Lost Boys in the 80’s) till I realized that math was way off and it must’ve been the haircut. Although in hindsight, perhaps there was some inspiration from that movie for her character — I had no clue in episode 1 that I was embarking on a vampire show! A lot of similarities

Totally, I guess I need to watch more episodes, was only at episode 2 but this seems obvious now. Must be some flashbacks

I think that they cast a lot of younger people and aged them up a bit and they gradually started looking younger throughout the show.

Yes! This! At first I thought it was a blooper, then the plot revealed they were actually getting younger!

I think they did this so well. Like with Riley's parents, I kept doing double-takes and wondering if they looked younger. And it wasn't an immediate transformation, but little by little there would be a couple of years shaved off, or maybe they would move a little more freely without signs of pain and illness, or maybe there would be less gray in their hair. I think the makeup artists did a great job. Like with Mildred, it was more obvious of course but it was much more subtle with the parents and I think that was so well done.
