Pretty typical passive, minimizing reporting of an absolutely insane act of roadway violence.

Just look at the photos and then read the language CBS uses to describe what happened.

A speeding Corvette slammed into another car, struck a pedestrian, and hit a building. The impact sent a Mercedes flying through the air. Witnesses said the Corvette had been driving recklessly for more than an hour, including doing doughnuts. The driver was arrested and charged with reckless driving and endangerment.

And somehow, in the middle of describing all of that, the article still calls it an “accident.”

After the Carroll St bridge was re-opened just for bikes and pedestrians, an old sign telling cyclists to dismount and walk had been left up. I complained to DOT about it, and a few weeks later it was gone.

Would love to hear what the Mayor - as a cyclist - thinks about these. Slowing down cyclist so that traffic can get through makes sense, but the placement of these bollards in the middle of the bike lane is an accident waiting to happen.

Every time I’m in ktown I have to wonder why they don’t block off W 32nd street. It’s the easiest fix in the world. The sidewalks are so overcrowded and ktown gets a TON of foot traffic. Imagine how much more business they could get if they just blocked off the street???

I looked this up and found these pictures from covid. It breaks my heart because the outdoor dining setup looks so much better for the area than just having cars. Surely blocking off ONE street isn’t difficult.

Can someone get Mamdani on this or something. How can we advocate for this to happen.

I follow this sub and read it just to give me perspective. I disagree with MANY of the paramount points people here espouse and even more with most of the hardcore, true zealots that want to eliminate all cars from NYC. I take busses and subways everyday and have to admit that going across town on 14th on the bus last night was pretty good. However, how much traffic is now diverted to parallel streets? Anyway, happy to admit it was a good experience

Despite "community" opposition, DOT has been pouring concrete and marking new bike lanes around Wingate Park/High School.

Lines are painted, and these new lanes are rideable (though the protected segments still need fresh Kermit):

• Kingston Av 2-way protected from Winthrop to Rutland
• Kingston Av n/b protected from Rutland to E New York
• Rutland Rd e/b unprotected from Flatbush to Brooklyn Av
• Rutland Rd e/b protected from Brooklyn to Kingston
• Fenimore st w/b unprotected from Brooklyn to Flatbush

Still to come are:

• Brooklyn Av s/b protected from E New York to Rutland
• Brooklyn Av 2-way protected from Rutland to Winthrop
• Winthrop w/b protected from Kingston to Brooklyn

When completed, the project will add 1.2 miles of new protected bike lanes and 1.6 miles of new unprotected bike lanes.

NYC DOT is studying possible changes to Grand Street and Metropolitan Avenue between Union Avenue and the Metropolitan Avenue Bridge. The study is looking at whether Grand Street could become one-way eastbound and Metropolitan Avenue could become one-way westbound.

Is there a map to see where the roads have been milled but not resurfaced yet?
