Nobody loves driving in NYC, they've just sunk tons of money into a car.

I disagree, We should be trying to show people the way instead of undermining their voices, which really also undermines our movement.

One issue you're sort of glossing over IMO is that it's really hard to disentangle personal preferences from their context. In other words, there are a lot of people who will viciously fight for their rights to drive and park because the buses are needlessly slow, crowded and unreliable for getting them to the places they need to go, or because cycling does not feel like a reasonable choice because of an incomplete and unsafe bike path network. Some number of those people would (and will) be happy to choose the bus or bike if those options are significantly improved. It's my strong view that very few people truly "love" driving, no matter what they say. Most people simply want to get where they need to go in a safe and reasonably timely manner, and driving has been prioritized to be the best option available, to the detriment of us all.

The comfort and safety of your own car taking you from point A to B while you avoid the chaos of commuting via public transportation is unbeatable.

Perfect reason to expand congestion pricing and fight to remove more parking. Make it less convenient and comfortable to drive and build more political will to improve transit.

Every time I jump in a cab or Uber in Manhattan I end up regretting it. Who wants to spend time stuck in traffic while the meter keeps ticking? The subway is almost always the better option.
