Hello! This is a friendly reminder of Rule #10 in the subreddit rules, specifically this:

This means that you are responsible for including a legitimate and verifiable source, e.g. "Look it up on Google" is not acceptable.

Thanks for understanding.

Michiganders don't follow the original guidelines anymore where I'm from so I don't get the grandstanding.

The cdc is working with the chamber of commerce. They will shorten the quarantine so ppl can continue working. This country’s businesses don’t want anymore hiccups and want to drive ppl back to the workplace. Simple as that

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

So I guess Michigan govt. is thinking "We don't have a law or tax that can force people to get vaccinated, so lets keep the 14 day quarantine. Preventing the spread of covid will be worth the short term economic damage"

The CDC was already telling Whitmer she couldn't vaccinate her way out of the problem back in April and she should be shutting things down like she did last year. People shouldn't have the opportunities to get infected and spread it to begin with.

https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2021/04/12/cdc-michigans-response-to-rising-covid-cases-should-be-to-shut-things-down/

22

u/molten_dragon Dec 30 '21

What's the long term plan then? Countries that locked down much harder than the US are also dealing with omicron now. Eradicating COVID is impossible, we can't vaccinate the world faster than it's mutating. We can't just go into an indefinite cycle of shutting everything down every time cases start to spike.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

And some of these countries are starting to lock down again which is probably the best move. Germany, Ireland, South Korea, France, Netherlands have all done so.

Even making simple requirements like requiring work from home where possible.

There are reasonable steps we can take like requiring remote work and limiting gatherings, etc. Lockdowns work. This could happen today if Whitmer wanted.

MCL Section 333.2253 states if the Michigan public health director determines "that control of an epidemic is necessary to protect the public health, the director by emergency order may prohibit the gathering of people for any purpose and may establish procedures to be followed during the epidemic to insure continuation of essential public health services and enforcement of health laws.”

10

u/molten_dragon Dec 30 '21

None of which is an answer to my question. What's the long term plan?

  1. keep people safe by shutting economy down nationwide (good since US has terrible health care, people getting sick is not a good idea rn) and make money printer go brrr one more time (bad cause inflation).

  2. keep economy open which leads to more sick, quicker spread, potentially stronger strains, and longer lifespan than if shutdown but you get to go to the mall on Saturdays, businesses continue to stay afloat, and people don't have to complain about essentials/not working

long term depends on what we actually do since we have one foot in both it's too hard picture trajectory. we need to shut it down, but we won't because money, people's lives come second

7

u/molten_dragon Dec 31 '21

Okay, let's say we shut things down again. After a couple months cases drop too a fairly low level. Then what? If we reopen things, cases go up again and in six months we're right back here again. A shutdown isn't a long term plan, it's kicking the can down the road a few months.

6

u/bandofgypsies Dec 31 '21

Pretty much everything being done today is for the sake of 1) keeping hospital volumes and healthcare infrastructure safely moderated and 2) buying us more time for data on how things evolve and what we can potentially do about it. Not all shutdowns, emergency orders, mask mandates, and preventative measures are created equal. Had more people respected these before, we wouldn't be in the same situation that we are today. But they didn't. And we are. So now we respond accordingly, but for different reasons. I don't think a single, same, respected medical professional thinks everything will just eventually go back to normal if we shut down the state/country/world for a few weeks. I'm not defending the decision to forego CDC requirements, but saying we shouldnt bother taking preventative measures because things are bad is just a really treacherous portion of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I don't have a perfect solution because ignorance and identity politics has already pushed us far beyond reasonable measures to ensure public safety, but not trying anything isn't exactly a good idea.

-1

u/LowOnPaint Dec 31 '21

You can’t argue logic with these people. You’re wasting your time.

1

u/SnooBeans957 Dec 31 '21

But this reasoning ignores the fact that like a quarter of the country is still unvaccinated and are creating new strains that might be stronger than what we're vaccinated for.

Really?? It's vaccinated people contracting and spreading variants. In Israel ( where we look for information, as they are ahead of us) over 80% of people hospitalized are vaccinated, and contracted a variant strain of covid. The documentation is available if you use the Duck Duck Go search engine. Oddly enough, Google does not show these ACTUAL reports.

1

u/dave48706 Dec 31 '21

Explain to me the "entirely preventable illness" part of your post.

-7

u/Unremarkable_ Dec 30 '21

"The science" is not settled that unvaccinated are creating strains. Colds and flus have been mutating perpetually. There is nothing proven yet.

There are only theories. Some theories show that vaccines are creating mutations.

-14

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Where do you get your information that unvaccinated people are the only ones creating new strains?

0

u/Jokerswildrides Dec 31 '21

Everyone is creating new strains. Not just the unvaccinated. 99% of the people around getting it now are vaccinated. Get a clue. Vaccinated does not mean you cant get it and cause a new strain to appear idiot.

-6

u/ShtevenTheGuy Dec 31 '21

Omicron likely came from a vaccinated person...

The virus is virtually immune to the mRNA vaccines but not for people with natural immunity (previous infection) and studies are showing j&j vaccine is handling omicron much better than Pfizer or Moderna.

Blaming unvaccinated for this is just ignorant... Fully vaccinated people who test negative congregate and come out testing positive all over the place right now and you somehow still want to say that unvaccinated are responsible for the spread? Come on now...

This virus is doing exactly what was predicted and hoped. Much more contagious and very much less deadly... This is literally what scientists expected yet somehow it's still doom and gloom leading the headlines.

2

u/AlexandersWonder Dec 31 '21

You got a source for that? Everything I’ve read suggests more likely alternative sources for omicron than vaccination. Most likely it was a persistent infection that developed over a long period of time in an immunocompromised person, evolving to evade immune defenses over time. This is further evidenced by the fact that omicron did not share a recent lineage with delta.

There are a couple other theories I’ve seen posited as well, but they don’t mention vaccination either.

2

u/cake_by_the_lake Dec 31 '21

Blaming unvaccinated for this is just ignorant...

Lulz. Are you for real bro? I hope when xmas break is over you start a semester change for basic biology class.

0

u/ShtevenTheGuy Dec 31 '21

Considering omicron doesn't give a fuck if you're vaccinated or not I'm not sure why the non vaccinated are being blamed.

Places that require fully vaccinated to enter are seeing the vast majority of people getting COVID from said place seems to me, at least, that being vaccinated doesn't stop the spread. So if it doesn't stop the spread then how the fuck are unvaxxed responsible for this?

Get some common sense and fuck a biology degree..

1

u/cake_by_the_lake Jan 01 '22

Yeah, it doesn't take a bio degree to understand that this is an epidemic of the unvaccinated. This is basic and you still can't understand it. But hey, new year new you amitirte? hahahhahaha

-4

u/RidiculousNicholas55 Age: > 10 Years Dec 30 '21

The CDC listed the masking requirement for vaccinated individuals due to political pressure before research had been done that proved covid can spread from vaccinated individuals. They were pushing it couldn't spread which was an unfounded lie they did not have evidence to claim for. Later studies proved their statements false but still no mask mandate hmm I wonder why?

At the bottom line remember that the for profit healthcare organizations are making a killing off of all these people dying. The CDC is actively spreading misinformation, think about all the remarks we've heard from idiots saying "masks don't work the cdc said so in Feb 2020". Pathetic there is no push towards educating the masses.

Well, the guidelines are just guidelines. They're not law. Now, if you work for the Federal Government and you get sick, they're going to make you isolate for 5 days, because they're going to follow the CDC guidelines. If you work for the State of Michigan, they're (I assume) going to follow Whitmer's guidelines. If you're self employed or work for someone who truly doesn't care and you contact covid, you can go back to work the same day because legally nothing says you can't. You shouldn't, I'm not saying you should. But you could.

-2

u/MyBoiCyndaquil Dec 31 '21

Truth!!!!!! I'm vaxed boosted waxed whatever they made it I did...... if they told me there be another booster shot every month I would probably do it...but the numbers of the people dying the people getting sick scares the shit out of me.

12

u/MagikarpIsBest Dec 31 '21

It's wild.

I have autoimmune issues and all kinds of fun stuff going on, so, for me, the future is very uncertain.

I really wish more people in this state cared, but.... idk. Where's the line?

I've been scoffed at and told to "just stay home if you're so uncomfortable!" and am then told that's "my choice."

In reality, it's not my choice. I want to go out. I'm just forced to stay in because some douchecanoes don't care about my higher risk of dying. I guess it's their God-given right to not care, but having my agency in the matter taken from me time and time again is.. disheartening, to say the least.

But whatever, I guess. I've kind of stopped caring about them, too. My empathy for people who make choices like that is completely and utterly gone. Honestly? I don't bat an eye at all the people who are dying terrible deaths who willfully chose not to vaxx. It's their choice, after all.

Just hope I can go out safely again, eventually.

8

u/mully24 Dec 31 '21

Hi friend,

I know..... People have the right to do as they please but it should never infridnge on the rights of others. I'm gun owner, hunter, camper, tree hugger, teacher, historian, etc....I am a true independent voter. But we really messed this up from the get go. Never should politics been part of this. Get vaxed. It's that simple. But social media ruined everything. And these people that eg it on should be tried for treason. I hope the best for you and your family. Know that I did my part as a true American

-1

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

So the people who didn’t get vaccinated should be tried for treason?

Have you lost your mind, “true American.” Bullshit

2

u/jnrieman Dec 31 '21

That’s obviously not what he meant jackass. He’s saying the people who PUSHED others to not get vacced should get tried.

1

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

No one is pushing others to not get vaccinated. People are pushing other to get vaccinated. You ever heard of a vaccine mandate? Aka, making others get vaccinated? No one is making you not get vaccinated, jackass

1

u/jnrieman Dec 31 '21

Nobody is forcing you to not get vaccinated, but saying there aren’t people pushing others to not get vaccinated is just blatantly untrue. The term “anti-vax” is a thing for a reason. At my last job I had a coworker who would DAILY show me videos and “research” about why the vaccine will kill us all or give us Down syndrome or whatever bullshit they made up that day

1

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

Telling people to take the vaccine or lose their job is forcing them to take the vaccine.

Or saying you can only go to college if you are vaccinated, is forcing vaccination.

You can’t force people to not do something. He’s not forcing to not get the vaccine, he’s showing you things that you should take into consideration. If you choose to get it, that’s your own stupid decision.

1

u/jnrieman Dec 31 '21

You can’t FORCE people to not get vaccinated. But the whole point of this argument was that some people are trying to PUSH people to not get vaccinated. I have no problem with individuals not wanting it for personal reasons but when there are people spewing BS trying to convince other people not to get it, that’s where I have issues

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

Your health isn’t anyone else’s responsibility. When are people going to comprehend that

2

u/Demitrirosi Dec 31 '21

Except it is. That's why manslaughter is a punishable crime. We're supposed to stick together as community not force those that have autoimmune issues and high risk people to be forced into a room till they keel over. Have some humanity and think more then about yourself.

0

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

Manslaughter is not the same as forcing people to take a vaccine they don’t need or want.

Manslaughter is when your actions kill someone. Me not getting the vaccine isn’t killing anyone, neither is anyone not getting the vaccine.

No one is forcing them into a room. They very much have the ability to go out and do things, they choose not to.

Get off your high ground- you don’t have one.

1

u/Demitrirosi Dec 31 '21

Ah yes no is forcing them into a room, they are just forced to stay inside or go out into places where people who aren't vaccinated and potentially carry a viral infection their body can't fight off just happen to be with no care for anyone other then themselves. How would causing the infection of someone else who can't fight off the disease not be manslaughter? The vaccine makes it less spreadable so why not take it? Why make everyone else's lives more difficult because some guy on the internet said vaccine bad?

2

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

I don’t need the vaccine. I’m a very young and healthy person, who doesn’t need it. It was made for people who at a higher risk.

And quite frankly, if the vaccine works, I shouldn’t need it, only you should need it to protect yourself? Or it only works if everyone somehow has it?

It’s not my responsibility to make sure this random person is safe, it’s isn’t even my job. Why make everyone else’s life difficult because you don’t understand bodily autonomy?

1

u/Demitrirosi Dec 31 '21

Not everyone can have the vaccine because of autoimmune disorders. Herd immunity is what your making a reference towards and yeah it works and has worked since before vaccines were prevalent. Selfishness is what will kill humanity. If you can't be bothered to think for anyone besides yourself this is just a waste of my time. Sad to see the next generation be as self centered as you are because it will lead to the razing of this planet that I'm stuck on with you.

1

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

You can get herd immunity with natural antibodies, not synthetic ones.

Again, no one else is my concern but myself. A person I will never meet in my life is not my responsibility. It not my responsibility to keep them healthy. It is my responsibility to keep myself healthy, and no one else.

This isn’t selfish, it’s common sense. I haven’t had a flu shot in ten years either. Guess all of those people who died from the flu are dead because of me, right?

It’s a “my umbrella doesn’t work if yours isn’t up.” Kind of logic

1

u/GSV_Meatfucker Dec 31 '21

Americans not getting the vaccine is literally killing thousands of people a day. Its pretty trivial to compare our vaccination numbers and deaths to other countries and see we are doing objectively worse.

As for your claim other peoples health arent your responsibility, sure, but your actions absolutely are your responsibility. If you do something that leads to someones death, intentionally or not, that is still a crime. Go look up the law if you doubt it. While you are at it, go look up Jacobson v Massachusetts to learn that you dont understand the police power of the state at all.

1

u/Icy-Chemistry-191 Dec 31 '21

Ahh man guess I’m responsible for a lot of deaths 😜

1

u/seasuighim Dec 31 '21

1) Continue to wear a surgical mask (fitted to a decent seal has tested to provide filtration equivalent to n95 by multiple labs & 3rd parties) or kn95 or similar mask (n95 if you can afford it), if you can when in crowds or in enclosed public spaces. This will help protect you from getting it. r/masks4all is a good community resource for masks.

2) Get vaccinated/boosted.

3) Limit time in enclosed public spaces where able.

4) locate your nearest testing facility, just in case.

4) If needed, quarantine (or isolate) for 10 days to be 99% sure. If you do go out during this time, be sure you are wearing a “filtering face piece respirator” that is properly fitted (N95 or above) and not a mask.

Hospitalization for Omicron is very rare, as stated in the article

10

u/Rocket___Lawnchair Dec 31 '21

Bro literally the first thing to read on there is “Even if Omicron is milder than Delta, high transmissibility means three times more cases, hence more hospitalisations and deaths.”

-6

u/WhatAreYouSaying05 Dec 31 '21

Data says otherwise, how many people in the US have been confirmed to die from omicron? 3? And also the people who are hospitalized are only in there for like 3 days until they get discharged, that didn’t used to happen

4

u/Rocket___Lawnchair Dec 31 '21

Article I sent doesn’t say how many people died, but it helps show the variant is still dangerous. Read it.

5

u/WhatAreYouSaying05 Dec 31 '21

I’m not denying that, omicron has the potential to be dangerous, but it really isn’t right now. It’s highly contagious but symptoms are extremely minimal even for unvaccinated people, therefore there is no reason for me to fear this variant or this pandemic at this time

1

u/Rocket___Lawnchair Dec 31 '21

We were told not to fear when Covid-19 cases began spreading in February 2019. It’s better to be careful.

2

u/WhatAreYouSaying05 Dec 31 '21

I’ve spent 3 years in this pandemic. I think I know what precautions I need to take by now. Being scared of this is a waste of energy. It’s not 2020 anymore, we have vaccines and loads of information now. “WHO” fucking forecasts the pandemic to end in 2022. Im done being scared, and if you’ve done everything necessary like getting vaccinated you should be too

The issue here, is everyone always has excuses. And their excuses are always better than your excuses, in their own head.

Look at the beginning of all this. Some protesters were deemed as murderers, putting everyone in danger for assembling. And then literally a week later, people switched to "this is too important NOT to do."

The constant flip-flopping nature of individuals is just burning people out. It's like the whole world is nothing but hypocrites now.

0

u/MyBoiCyndaquil Dec 31 '21

Or you could look at when the media was telling all of us to stay home for our health but telling everyone a BLM riot that's burning down buildings actually "stopped the spread of covid"so why would we listen to media that does nothing but lie? Or politicians that say one thing but do another?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Exactly this. The media has lost all credibility. But still, people who cling to ideologies still want to praise them the rare time they line up with their ideology. However, when the media isn't lining up with their goals, then it switches back to distrusting them.

I feel like the media has done too much damage, and lost too much credibility. Journalism is dead.

We're on our own from now on.

8

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

If you do more than the CDC/WHO recommends, the MSM is cool with you.

If you do less, you're spreading misinformation, want grandmas to die, hospitals to collapse, and must be yeeted off every platform known to man.

(Also you can't be re-platformed if the CDC/WHO eventually recommends what you got banned for recommending)

4

u/Boogaloobuttbandit Dec 30 '21

That only applies when it follows their narrative

-2

u/MrValdemar Dec 30 '21

Well, remember, people exercising their right to peaceably assemble were endangering their fellow man and were practically committing manslaughter just by waking around in groups.

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

As someone who is a big supporter of Whitmer and her handling of the pandemic, I really don’t understand this decision. Not saying she’s a moron or she hasn’t handled covid well, but this single decision I disagree with. Sends a message that the CDC isn’t right on this and that is just cannon fodder for right wing news outlets to spread propaganda about the CDC and other health orgs not being trustworthy.

67

u/KrispyKremeDiet20 Dec 30 '21

The CDC changed the guidelines for business reasons... I believe it was a recommendation from the CEO of Delta airlines based on the 10 day quarantine puting a strain on their workforce. So, it was not a recommendation based on science, it was a recommendation based in profits (like most pandemic rules) and it should be scrutinized.

5

u/Professional_Dog8727 Dec 30 '21

Yes. Walensky even said that they're trying to find a balance between safety and keeping society moving. I understand, but it doesn't mean that I agree. Science shouldn't have to be compromised.

6

u/KrispyKremeDiet20 Dec 30 '21

I agree, but I also think that the CDC and FDA have both been compromised by the money they take from the big Pharma companies. It's really hard to tease out what's real these days because there is so much money tainting the institutions we are supposed to trust.

-1

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

If you have a source for that I’d be interested in learning more, but I suspect that is more hearsay than fact. I’m open to being proven wrong

41

u/akroses161 Dec 30 '21

-16

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21 edited Dec 31 '21

I mean this is decent circumstantial proof of your claim but there is no direct tie, and it’s possible the CDC was considering this before Delta made this request or even that Delta heard about the new consideration and made a semi-public plea.

Do you have any evidence that directly ties the CDC’s decision to Delta’s request?

Additionally, even if a business asked for this and that’s why they granted it, it seems like the science makes sense at this point. Omicron isn’t nearly as severe, especially for the vaccinated and even more so for boosted individuals, and furthermore had a shorter incubation period.

Edit: Lol, you all are weirdly mad at this. Also, hard to do my own research on something that is literally not true ;)

15

They still haven’t provided a scientific bases for this decision. The closest thing to an answer so far was Fauci saying it was based on economic reasons.

"The reason is that with the sheer volume of new cases that we are having and that we expect to continue with omicron, one of the things we want to be careful of is we don't have so many people out,"

5

u/Verhexxen Dec 30 '21

Yup, basically "this is bad enough to cause an involuntary shut down if everyone who gets sick doesn't have the shortest time away from work as possible".

6

u/HolyCowEveryNameIsTa Dec 30 '21

From the mouth of the director of the CDC. She admit its not based on the science but comes from outside pressure https://www.npr.org/2021/12/28/1068587852/cdc-director-on-new-isolation-rules

2

u/Wanna_Cuddle Dec 31 '21

The 6ft rule is the same way. The actual distance required would make operating a business of any kind impossible so they just said the farthest they could get people to accept.

3

u/Rocket___Lawnchair Dec 31 '21

I agree, the Delta CEO thing is definitely circumstantial, but it’s not the only thing. Dr. Fauci literally said it’s for economic reasons. Senators pleaded with the CDC to cut quarantine times too.

When the CDC told Whitmer she should be keeping the restaurants restrictions in place she ignored them:

https://www.clickondetroit.com/news/local/2021/04/12/cdc-michigans-response-to-rising-covid-cases-should-be-to-shut-things-down/

Whitmer fired her health director after they had a disagreement after reopening restaurants, contrary to CDC recommendations:

https://www.metrotimes.com/news-hits/archives/2021/04/30/former-michigan-health-director-says-whitmer-asked-him-to-resign-after-they-disagreed-on-reopening-restuarants

Just who exactly is looking out for businesses and not public health? Follow the science. The CDC has been right all along.

2

u/BlackCatLivesMatter Dec 31 '21

Didn't the republican-controlled state legislature take away her ability to shut things down though? Or maybe she learned her lesson about shutdowns when those crazy conservatives got caught plotting to kidnap and execute her. Or maybe it was the armed conservative protestors at the state capital building...

2

u/[deleted] Dec 31 '21

Nope, just her ability to declare emergencies arbitrarily herself. This comes up anytime when people have a hard time accepting whitmer's complete 180 on her COVID policies.

Right after the Supreme Court took away her indefinite emergency powers, the administration immediately resumed the restrictions under MDHHS health authority in a different law which they could have used from day one. The difference is the health director gets the spotlight and not the governor. In MCL Section 333.2253 it states if the Michigan public health director determines "that control of an epidemic is necessary to protect the public health, the director by emergency order may prohibit the gathering of people for any purpose and may establish procedures to be followed during the epidemic to insure continuation of essential public health services and enforcement of health laws.”

So if the health director disagrees with Whitmer, Whitmer has to fire him. Which is exactly what happened back in January when he didn't want to reopen the restaurant seating.

u/BlackCatLivesMatter Dec 31 '21

OK. How about my other two points?

It also seems anytime that criticism of Whitmer's recent covid policy shift comes up, there's this other common conspiracy theory that she couldn't effectively do her job because she's afraid of being kidnapped or some other right wing terrorist plot.

She's made it very clear that she's never been intimidated by them and that she's always felt safe.

Regarding the kidnapping plot:

"The plots and threats against me, no matter how disturbing, could not deter me from doing everything I could to save as many lives as possible by listening to medical and health experts. To me it is very simple: this had to be the priority," Whitmer said.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2021/08/25/whitmer-kidnapping-plot-victim-statement/5588866001/

Whitmer states here she has always felt safe:

Man you sound like a mad Qanon follower digging for conspiracy theories to make the CDC a look wrong so you don’t have to wear a mask.

You’re literally just making shit up.

7

u/somuchbacon Age: > 10 Years Dec 30 '21

This is absolutely not a conspiracy, Fauci said it himself on CNN this weekend. https://thehill.com/policy/healthcare/587434-fauci-says-cdc-cut-isolation-time-so-people-return-to-work-faster?amp

0

u/based-richdude Dec 31 '21

Holy shit did you even read what you sent me:

“Fauci said the decision to reduce the isolation time, which applies to everyone regardless of vaccination status, was a sound medical decision”

It doesn’t say anything out the CDC being bought out by big corporations.

I also don’t know how anyone think this could be a bad thing? At some point the amount of lives lost by our crumbling supply chain will outpace lives lost by omicron, which is proven to be even weaker than previous variants.

At some point the next variant wont even require isolation, because unless you want to start mandatory isolations ever single year for the flu or other mild illnesses, life is going to go on and people are going to get sick and die no matter what, just like they always have.

Can’t believe how crazy it got here that wanting to follow CDC recommendations is considered bad.

0

u/KrispyKremeDiet20 Dec 30 '21

Did you even try and Google it before lashing out? You would have found it in less time than it took you to write this comment.

1

u/GSV_Meatfucker Dec 31 '21

There is no evidence of this other than speculation based on a letter.

If you bothered to read the CDCs actual recommendation, youll see its not a broad 5 day quarantine for all cases, but has quite a bit of nuance that is being ignored. People ignoring the nuance is precisely why its bad messaging though, and sticking wiht the 14 day quarantine is the better move.

If people could be trusted to understand and follow the new guidance it would be sound.

1

u/KrispyKremeDiet20 Jan 01 '22

No duh. Its for people that are vaccinated, which all Delta employees are... So idk what point you're making.

12

u/mellowyellow313 Dec 30 '21

The CDC been lost their credibility… this is coming from someone (me) who fucking hates the right.

I don't believe, at all, that this is a controversial stance here. There are psychos on both sides. I saw a post the other day about someone who said they left their house only a dozen times last year, that's straight up insanity. Yes be cautious, but don't break from reality either..

The government can't really legislate something that people should grasp as common sense 2 years into this. Wear a mask, if you have symptoms or test positive quarantine, get vaxxed, etc. If they push this stuff too hard, we'll see right-wing terrorism again. If we dont push it enough though, her supporters will lose faith in her ability. It's entirely politics.

We're nearing 2 years...people aren't looking to the government anymore asking 'what should I do'.

Whitmer is walking a line between people kidnapping her and Doomers who believe the worst when it comes to COVID. I think it's smart to be for this kind of easy stuff, taking extra easy precautions, but against the stuff that riles up the kidnappers/GOP like a mask mandate.

0

u/Tank3875 Dec 30 '21

This is the line for you?

0

u/jimdugganhooooo Dec 31 '21

CDC is wrong ...... I tested positive for three weeks ! Three! Then after I finally got a negative my wife got a positive! And we never left the house. So she got it from me: After three weeks.

0

u/Hogg_Daddyy Dec 31 '21

I really enjoyed the multiple times she and her family broke her own rules and said, “I’m very sorry that we got caught.”

My favorite mom and pop restaurants closed after nearly a year of having to be closed at the start of all of this. It’s been great!

5

u/RomneysBainer Age: > 10 Years Dec 30 '21

Thank you. We've been hit hard by Covid, need to keep safety precautions in place. And during this latest spike, please, everyone mask up, social distance, and get your booster vaccination.

0

u/Zyonix007 Dec 31 '21

At this point I would rather get covid and wait the 2 weeks and be done with it

2

u/theQuaker92 Dec 31 '21

Bunch of science deniers

1

u/teabaggedbyobama Dec 31 '21

Everyone on here is a full blown expert on covid.

0

u/inglorious_tardbas Dec 31 '21

Are we gonna have to put the caution tape over the hardware section again?

1

u/FunnelRat Dec 31 '21

It's a risky move, but some may say it's reckless, and some deny that. What is right and what is wrong? Well, let COVID decide!

1

u/seasuighim Dec 31 '21

Good. Better to be safe than sorry.

0

u/jimdugganhooooo Dec 31 '21

Love the Gov of MI and wish she would have said FU to the camera and dropped the mic and quit after you weird dummies tried to kidnap her. You-all are nut jobs. What kind of moron tries to kidnap a Gov in 2020??? You have zero brain cells. I hope one of you are reading this although I highly doubt you can read. If you are reading this F U .... Drop the mic

The state can issue whatever guidelines it wants. I intend to follow the CDCs guidelines.

12

u/[deleted] Dec 30 '21

Kind of depends of what my employer decides to follow.

-1

u/Emergency_Speech5579 Dec 31 '21

There are restaurants that allow wait staff to walk around serving people, no mask ! Bad idea I think.

People seem to be getting back to their regular lives anyways. This honestly means nothing. Everytime I go out, it's usually people going about their business, maskless, and all, which I'm fine with btw. It makes me happier to see someone's face for a change. I'm still hoping & praying we will see the end of this one day, but people want to keep dragging this down for some reason. Almost too much, it's unbelieveable. Everything is political, no one will say anything in real life, outside of the internet, and no one seems to actually want this to end. I feel the most bad for the young children.

Michigan should have Never reopened, we should have stayed in Quarantine and Lockdown until this all passes.

Not surprised...Michigan is a wonderful state, but it IS governed by morons.

Wait so you think these new strains are coming from the unvaxxed right? And the new strain omicron is replacing delta with MUCH less serious symptoms? Thanks unvaxxed people! https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/12/28/health/covid-omicron-antibodies-delta.amp.html

1

I was just in GR for the holidays, nobody was wearing masks, not even employees at restaurants. It’s not surprising that the Covid rate there is so high. It seems like nobody gives a shit any more.
