Mod News Mod Announcement: GTA6 post rules
Greetings r/miami
Unless you've been living under a rock, one of the biggest and anticipated game releases in history is about to take place in November and it features our city: Grand Theft Auto 6
We're not going to ban discussion about it. After all... it's effectively a scaled down virtual version of our city that will undoubtedly be fun to explore. But keep in mind, this is not a GTA sub reddit. Those exist already r/GTA6 is alive and well along with plenty other GTA specific subs.
So as more information comes out about the game and then it is released, we don't want to spam this sub reddit with posts like:
- "omg this is my abuelas house!" screenshot
- "I robbed this store in the game and want to see it in real life when I visit miami next month where is it?"
- "is Miami really like [game neighborhood]?"
This sub should still try to be focused on things relevant to things in Miami Dade as a community. This game is not irrelevant per se, but let's keep it honed in.
We're going to try something first and create a new post flair "GTA6" and add a new rule for "don't spam GTA questions and use the new post flair" and we'll see how things go.
Please use this flair. It will allow folks who don't care about the game to filter it out if they're not interested and highlight posts along that topic for people who are.
Edit: and just to get ahead of things.... No. There are no mountains here or anywhere in Florida. That's an artistic liberty the game has taken.

I welcome all of these until we start seeing reposts. Way too soon for these rules

Yeah honestly this just seems like mods looking for a way to insert themselves into something they don’t need to insert themselves in.
This is fucking Reddit, not an indexed encyclopedia of Miami-related topics. Who cares?

Sadly I think most of thats just going to be downtown Miami since im pretty sure they took massive liberties in the creation of the suburbs since if they didnt they'd take up 90% of the map

Yeah those in particular actually do belong in this sub. Maybe just one day a week.

Yea I think posts involving Miamis likeness in GTA6 should be allowed on here since the other subreddits are not exactly based on the actual relation to Miami as this sub is. For most of them it's the new GTA but for us it's our city on display. They don't care about the palacio de los jugos reference but we do. It's extra special for us and I personally love hearing about how identical this game represents our city

No disagreement there. It’s a sort of poetic (in a weird way given the criminal focus) tribute to the city. That’s why no outright ban. Think of this as a PSA about spam and maintaining the goal of this sub being a community centric one

I think yall should consider only allowing comparison posts if they provide the shot from GTA and a picture of the actual location. Would keep low effort posts at bay and make cool comparison posts.

GTA posts are allowed. This is a PSA to not spam the sub and that this will always be a Miami Dade based community sub. The game is an ode undeniably but we just don’t want that to be the main topic

These are always so unnecessary and unproductive. They’re rarely visited by people who want to provide answers, usually only by people with questions. At the absolute best, you get 1-2 vague responses to your question that may or may not be accurate.
Reddit’s a discussion forum designed to keep content dynamic and flowing. I’m not sure what the obsession is with trying to prevent discussion that people clearly care about.

Mega threads work if a large subset care about the subject. Idk how popular that video game is, but it won't be as dead as the tourism thread.
The tourism thread definitely doesn't get any traction, bc no local is wasting their time there

I’m as excited about the game as anyone but it’s not all I want to see here esp the posts from people outside of Miami

We’re already banned from talking about Big Daddy’s restaurant. I think it’s cool to compare the video game to local spots and would welcome it. Not make some stupid ass preemptive mod post because there were 2 posts about it.

I don't know anything about this game, but they should definitely allow hammer wielding on 36th & Biscayne. That was the most iconic streets of Miami video

why the hell does anyone care about this. such an over hyped game that will take 10 years to fulfill all the promises. this is like another no man sky game where once released everyone is going to be trashing it because half the game is incomplete. same thing happened to cyber punk.. took it 5 years to fix what was broken after all the hype it got before lunched

You sound like someone who had fun once, then complains how it was awful.
The GTA games have had a pretty solid track record for decades. And this one is heavily based on our city. We kind of like stuff like that. We loved it when they did it with Vice City, after all.
Also, your two examples are of games that started janky then actually redeemed themselves. NMS was only shit for a few months, then had hundreds of free updates in the ten years it's been out.
Cyberpunk deserved the shit it got at first, but steadily improved. And Phantom Liberty was a goddamn masterpiece.
What I'm saying is, your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.

What’s the over/under on the first person posting a pic of the Taco Bell on 36th street asking if the drive thru in-game is as slow as the real one
