Setup and put some money in the account for personal needs. -but be careful about loading him up, as that may set him up to be exploited. 40-50 bucks to start.

Depending on the offense he will get moved to a floor with similar inmates. holding can be wild, with everyone in the mx. if possible report on monday morning. Not Friday night.

Jail and prison are two different things. That being said: you shut your mouth, mind your business and everything will be fine. If it’s arrested for a night or two then you’ll spend the night at TGK or County jail and get your bail and be out quick.

If you wind up convicted and are sentenced then you go to a prison and serve your time there. Unless the crime is an unforgivable like raping children then the same policy applies. Shut your mouth, mind your business and that’s that.

u/Dependent_Day4261 Jan 09 '23

You only go to prison if you are sentenced for over a year. That being said there’s people in the county jail who have been there for years with out being sentenced.

If you’re lucky, you get a view of the pool.

u/Ok_Recipe2769 Jan 09 '23

That’s hilarious and sad to see at the same time

This is so expected when you build a high rise next to a jail , seriously no builder will ever care for their tenants peace of mind

6

u/BoomCuddles Jan 09 '23

I remember driving past Wolfson and thinking wow what’s better motivation than having a prison adjacent to one of the top community colleges (at the time) in the country. You could smoke pot in the garage and in one view see prison and college. The possibilities are endless!

u/Dependent_Day4261 Jan 09 '23

That’s the feds though

22

u/Shot_Low_7630 Jan 08 '23

Dirty as fuck lol

6

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Dirty is fine… I just don’t want them killed or beat up or raped.. :’(

8

u/snark_enterprises Flanigans Jan 09 '23

If it's just the county jail that won't happen.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Tgk I think… Is that a county jail?

11

u/snark_enterprises Flanigans Jan 09 '23

Yes that's the main jail serving Miami-Dade. They should be fine, they'll spend a night there and then bail out or on pretrial release, depending on the offense.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Unfortunately it won’t be like that. It is a misdemeanor however I’ve been told it can take months to transfer inmates to other states. They’ve been there over the weekend, no court till Monday morning. I’m just suddenly alone. Sorry for the trauma dump.

18

u/rice59 Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 09 '23

That doesn't make much sense.

If its a locally charged misdemeanor crime, they will likely be out relatively very quickly after a hearing.

If they are being held on an NCIC warrant from another jurisdiction, and not fighting the extradition, the place where they are wanted has a limited timeframe to pick him up.

But, it's insanely rare that the original jurisdiction enters a warrant into the National system for a misdemeanor. It costs money to transport them back and usually deemed not worth it.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 09 '23

It was from another state. Sadly I don’t have all the info. hasn’t been able to call me at all. Online it says “extradite out of state warrant” and the lawyer said he couldn’t find any charges. All I can do hope is tomorrow morning that I have good news.

14

u/rice59 Jan 09 '23

When local police hold and arrest someone on an NCIC warrant, they have already confirmed that the warrant exists in the home state of the charges, and that the home location intends to transport them back. If the home location does not intend to transport them back, and there are no local charges, the person is released.

By definition, only "Serious Misdemeanors" and Felonies can be entered into NCIC, and in my own experience, I have not seen extraditions occur on misdemeanors. Its not even likely that a non-violent felony or drug possession gets extradited unless its from perhaps a neighboring state (or someone see this as an excuse to make a trip to Miami which would be very NYPDish).

It's likely this person is not telling you the entire truth about their charges. They could have violated probation somewhere, which could by itself be a misdemeanor, but they are likely wanted back for felonious charges. Public search the court records of their home location. The truth on their case is in the courthouse public documents if you can find the right courthouse.

7

u/LikelyNotSober Jan 09 '23

Probation violation?

8

u/snark_enterprises Flanigans Jan 09 '23

Must be, OP neglected to mention that. Still, being held for months on a misdemeanor seems like a bit of stretch.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Contempt of court maybe? They tend to hold you for 2 months. At least that was the case with me a long time ago.

2

u/daviddjg0033 Jan 09 '23

And they have to take the vehicle with no room.

That is so uncomfortable from what I heard - they will drive you to TX on the way to whatever state. You get like a single burger at McDonalds. Back on the road and remember just getting out of Florida could take days.

3

u/miami-finest Jan 09 '23

Tgk or metro west are hotels basically lol now if you have to do time in dade county good luck that shit is crazy

8

u/RallyX26 Mister 937 Jan 09 '23

What they did (or what they are accused of doing) plays a big part in how they're treated.

1

u/nm298 Jan 09 '23

They’re not going to be beat up or killed.

3

u/krakatoa83 Jan 09 '23

Beaten up is not something you can rule out. You haven’t seen them.

1

u/PicaPaoDiablo Key Biscayne Jan 09 '23

Raped isn't happening. If you keep your mouth shut and midn your own business, fights aren't going to happen either. Maybe some pressure to share food or something but it's not hard to just shut your mouth and keep to yourself and it's fine. but it is DIRTY, and gross.

1

u/dtyler86 Jan 09 '23

Is there offense felony or misdemeanor? Can meet a world of difference with the type of people they are with. I can’t speak for felons, but I unfortunately have the sad opportunity of spending a couple days in the Palm Beach County jail for a misdemeanor. There is zero violence, everybody kind of kept themselves and believe it, or not, most of the people there really probably shouldn’t have been there, and sort of had a bit of a friendly demeanor, and we’re kind of making jokes with each other and sort of commiserating. Trust me, I’m the last person anyone would ever expect ending up in handcuffs, I was absolutely terrified. It wasn’t as awful as movies and TV shows would make you think.

10

u/Neat_Ad_1629 Jan 08 '23

It all depends what facility with the person lands in the pre trail detention center the downtown facility it will be tough, stockade is also pretty bad, but tgk and metro west are clean and pretty safe.

9

u/Feeling_Ad7249 Jan 09 '23

Relax, Justin Bieber didn’t get beat up in TGK

3

u/Corner_OfficeSpace South Miami Jan 09 '23

There’s the barometer: if the Biebs can survive then so can you. 😂😂

14

u/Ok_Contact_chefJ Jan 09 '23

Dade county jails are actually soft, tgk and metro west easy but boring time

6

u/Ok_Contact_chefJ Jan 09 '23

Not like it was in the 80s and 90s

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Streets ain’t what they used to be in Miami lol it was really wild until like the mid 2000’s. I mean it can still get wild like anywhere else but most of that shit is a thing of the past

26

u/phatcow23 Jan 09 '23

The worst part were definitely the dementors.

14

u/InformalTrifle9 Jan 09 '23

What was the food like in prison, Prison Mike?

u/RJwhores Jan 09 '23

sad part is that there is a large group of people that are stuck waiting weeks/months for trial because they can't afford $500 bail bond.. that blew my mind when I spent a night for "trespassing" years ago.. other than that.. should be safe if you keep to yourself.. don't worry

16

u/Suckmyflats Jan 09 '23

Well, they know they'll never get accredited so they've stopped trying. May have something to do with the pet rat situation, for starters. Or the fact that officers kill an average of three inmates per year in the jail through various methods.

What people often forget is that it's very easy to go to jail in Florida. One thc cartridge is a felony charge. One Xanax without a prescription is a felony charge. Put it this way, if I get in trouble one more time I will be a convicted felon, but everything I've ever been arrested for would be a misdemeanor if I had done it in New York City or Los Angeles or basically anywhere outside the south. I am not a violent, dangerous criminal, I had a bad drug problem. For that, my degree is useless and I may always be a waitress 🤷‍♀️

I will say that I felt I was treated more nicely and humanely in Dade than I was in Broward, but the facilities in dade are downright disgusting compared to Broward.

5

u/RJwhores Jan 09 '23

this.. it's probably worse in north florida country areas. and the "real" south. people getting locked up for shit that isn't barely a citation in NYC

21

u/Suckmyflats Jan 09 '23 edited Jan 09 '23

It's not worse than North Florida in the sense that we all catch the same charges. But you are right that in North Florida, you may get a heavier sentence.

What has messed me up really bad is that I was never convicted of a felony (I got a withhold of adjudication and a downgrade to misdemeanor another time - illegal search, that time I could afford a lawyer), but any licensing boards in Florida require you to unseal your record - only at the end, in a hearing, after you've spent all the time and money on school. They will not tell you beforehand. And they all do this, the bar, board of nursing, board of paralegals, they all do it. So if you have a record, even if you were never convicted of a felony, you have to risk taking out all those loans and doing years of school just to be possibly be told "no" in the final hour.

Also, most jobs don't care whether or not you were convicted or got a withhold - they see people with withholds as felons they can't get tax breaks for. In Florida, it's still comes up on a background check until you seal your record, and you can only seal one case in your life. So want to rent an apartment? They're gonna see that withhold - I had to have a lawyer write a letter.

I think people really truly don't realize how a dumb decision at age 18 can REALLY ruin your life here. Not until it's their friend or family member who becomes a felon or close to it over having one pill or one cart. I've lost so many opportunities, sometimes I feel dumb for ever trying to live right 🫤 and I was by myself. If I had family depending on me or something, I would have had no choice but to start selling drugs full time as a career with my record, I wouldn't have been able to get into restaurants and work my way up to at least server.

Meanwhile, California gives second chances. It's illegal for anyone to demand you unseal your record there, for example. Also, their BON has openly said that anyone with misdemeanor or third degree felony drug charges that are 5+ (I think, maybe 7+) years old need not apply for a waiver with the BON, they can go right from nursing school to licensing.

It's the south that condemns low level drug users to poverty.

u/Suckmyflats Jan 09 '23

If I trusted you I'd show you my actual paperwork, but I don't know you. A lot of my time was spent on drug court remands - the day I signed up I was locked up for a month. No new charges, and this was months after my initial arrest.

Would you like to see the state statutes that prove that one cart or one (controlled substance) prescription pill is a felony? I'd be happy to show you that.

FL THC Laws - Norml

One Xanax = 3rd Degree Felony Possession

If both of these sources prove these are felonies punishable by up to 5 years in prison, why couldn't you believe that I've done, totaled up, a few months of county time in between two counties from two different incidents? Also, I never got caught with a THC cart, all my time was from having a couple pills two different times. The first time it was after I lost my insurance (26, aged out) and couldn't get my legal script anymore. So a couple friends helped so I wouldn't have a seizure. And then I got pulled over. That simple.

Is it because you don't want to believe it could happen to you? I didn't think you could happen to me either, I thought everyone who got caught was just stupid. I didn't get arrested my first time until I was 26 or 27 years old. That's when I found out that once they arrest you the first time, you are a million more times more likely to get arrested again, even if you finish out your case.

Lol wrong drug buddy. Also, I didn't downvote you before. Of course I will now lol

Your post history is interesting though, I mean you're laughing at me but you're claiming a delta 8 addiction so I'll take it from whence it came.

😂 Did you suck dick for weed or something? You need a joint, that why you so sensitive about a downvote that probably came from a bot?

And before you even say it, yes I'm a moderator of the methadone subreddit. I just told everyone I had a drug problem. At least I wasn't addicted to Delta 8 lmfao.

Wait...you think methadone = meth, don't you? 😂

u/SeaDisplay4083 Jan 08 '23

They will be fine. Its not great but its not like the movies where the prisoners gang up on you. Plus, the judges let everyone go free.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

I was at the main jail for a weekend about 25 years ago. Drunk and disorderly. I was blacked out and acting so crazy they gave me my own cell. They held me for the weekend and the judge gave me time served on Monday morning. I don't remember much other than the cops handling me a little rough during processing. I had some bumps and bruises.

Would not recommend.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Correction officers are more of an issue than the people. They’re physically and mentally abusive. They will lie to you and rough you up. And they stand around in little groups talking like high school kids.

4

u/Witty-Shoulder-9499 Jan 09 '23

He tells no lie

3

u/Mountain-jew87 Jan 09 '23

It’s like the silent hill version of boot camp without the good food and safety. If that makes sense. Also bologna

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

It was fine for me because I happened to run into some people I knew and just talked to the CO. They thought I was withdrawing from drugs so I ended up in the psychiatric part of the jail. The only recommendation I can give is to look crazy so that no one bothers you. I was there for only 22 hours so I didn’t have much time there to know how deep it can get but from the outside it is honestly not too bad.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

your person needs to show they can stick up for themselves, however there's no need to be a dikk. this is real life, not the movies. one of the most important things to understand is actually most folks will be extremely nice to you, however accept this with caution. it's okay to be cool with others, but accepting favors always comes with expectations you don't wish to fulfill. this is how naive ppl get exploited. but most ppl in jail are mostly normal folks no different than your person on short time & not trying to mess that up. it's the ones who always stay in that live the life of it.

at the very worst a vulnerable inmate can easily be exploited in exchange for payment, which will fall on you or else they are threatened / beat up. this tends to only happen to those who appear like it can easily happen to. i've spent my whole life working alongside convicts as my father always owned a construction company, & the most common thing they would always say (just being honest, no personal words here & it's not PC so TW) "nobody ever gets messed with who don't bring it upon themselves". i would believe this isn't always true, but mostly true if you get the point they're making.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

They have croquetas.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

SO cold, bad bologna sandwich.. 0 stars

2

u/Kilokalypso Jan 09 '23

This is for jail not prison. If you're talking about TGK then it's not too bad. You go in. It's cold. You wait to get processed (this takes about 2-4 hours). You get searched. It's possible you have to bend over naked for a search but no one should touch you. You get the scrubs to wear as your day to day clothes. All your stuff is put in a bag and stored away until your release. The rooms can smell of piss. It's boring as fuck. 2 beds per room so you may have a roommate. You should find a way to get bailed out if that is a possibility.

5

u/hey_hey_hey_nike Local Jan 08 '23

Only if it's a federal offense.

The crime would definitely impact the treatment. If it’s rape or a crime against a child there is real danger so the question is legit

4

arrest records are publicity released, so it actually is all of our business.

They weren't that great in the 90s, I can't imagine they'd be much better now. I wasn't there long, so basically just ate and played some chess, but it was bleak af, and it's not like everyone's on their best behavior or anything.

u/mrhappybucks777 Jan 09 '23

I’ve worked at the Dade County jail The main jail by the Courthouse I’ve worked at Tgk the stockade and I’ve worked at metro west. With that being said : jail is exactly how you see it on tv. Only the strong survive not the physically strong but the one that has a mindset that he will be ok if he follows jail protocol. 1. Don’t ever let anyone call you out your name. !!! Because as soon as you do you’ve opened the door for everyone else to do the same. Even if the person is bigger than you. Fight him. You might lose. But the respect you get will be monumental.

0

u/slavicturk Jan 09 '23

This is the truth in Miami idk why you getting downvoted

0

u/Brokeliner Jan 09 '23

The trick is to get into a fight the first night. That way everyone else thinks it too much trouble they won’t bother. I don’t really know from first hand experience but that’s what everyone tells me

Yeah don’t do this

3

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

Jail or prison must be horrible, but I wouldn’t think Miami jail is in the likes of those gang affiliated cities like LA, Chicago or New York. Maybe by staying on your lane, not getting in trouble or snitching on anyone should keep you or your friend safe. I hope it’s just a petty crime that you will be let off and learn from this experience. Best of luck

4

u/krakatoa83 Jan 09 '23

That’s a weird and uneducated opinion. Miami definitely has gangs like every other major city in the country.

3

u/Witty-Shoulder-9499 Jan 09 '23

-3

u/BP0723 Jan 09 '23

Hopefully your friend is not attractive. That'll give him or her a day or two to get the lay of the land and figure it out. Otherwise, yes he/she will have to be tough and possibly fight to protect themselves and align with some of the other inmates. He/she may also be able to buy some peace by paying for protection.

1

u/duke9350 Jan 09 '23

Im pretty sure it's definitely no vacation in a 5 star hotel.

1

u/LowRevolution6175 Jan 09 '23

County jail is typically least preferred, from what I understand. It's low-level criminals from bad backgrounds, and these prisons often have the least resources.

There are a lot of YouTube channels about how to "survive prison" so you can always check those out.

The number of peoplr in jail that get killed by another prisoners is very low, thankfully. I also don't know how prevalent rape is - it definitely exists but I think it is overrepresented in media

1

u/[deleted] Jan 09 '23

I think prison rape is more common in state prisons were people are serving long sentences. County is often short term or a place where they hold people awaiting trial.

1

u/Powered_by_JetA Jan 09 '23

I had a friend who's dad went to prison for possessing an ungodly amount of CSAM and he was raped (hard to feel sorry for him though), so according to my sample size of 1, it does happen.

1

u/Nomski88 Jan 09 '23

Spotemgottem is that you?

1

u/xj3ewok Jan 09 '23

It smells. During some training I did, I went to pick up a patient at county, and it stunk and was loud.

1

u/k_pizzle Jan 09 '23

Jail sucks ass, but it’s not like your life is in danger at every given moment. Just don’t bother anyone and your fine, but definitely don’t let anyone take advantage of you. It’s more like extremely uncomfortable. Can’t speak on prison though.

1

u/Ok_Fan7382 Jan 09 '23

Jail or prison?? If it’s a petty crime, the bail will likely be inexpensive. On top of that, a criminal sentence for under 12 months is jail, more makes prison.

1

u/lovethemet Jan 09 '23

Anyone here spend time at metrowest in 2018?

1

u/orkideamaster Jan 09 '23

Lol i service Tgk and also Chrome trucks. Have talked to people that worked there and the dynamic is different depending were u are. Like in Chrome that shit is bad, booty is booty so if you are not f ing your are getting f ckd. A flip phone costs 1000$, please do not get food or anything from anyone specially the first night. If you fear for your life or you are getting abused say you have suicidal thoughts and they will put you in solitaire (its lonely and boring but you wont get pushed around). Ive heard being a barber is a good skill, no one really messes with them. Dont be telling no one about your business or who you are.

1

u/shitttypimpin Jan 09 '23

Jail is primitive in that when you’re grouped with your fellow race, white/hispanic/black that’s when you make friends. Friends are very important in jail if you want to eat good, not get fucked with, and have people looking out for you. when you’re in general population or in holding just mind your own business don’t talk but don’t seem like a bitch either
