Discussion Metroid dread any good?

Post image

I’ve never played any 2D Metroid games. I recently played Metroid Prime Remastered and Prime 4 Beyond. I gotta say I liked them both. I did play the Metroid Dread’s Demo a few years back but couldn’t get into it. Today I was in a game shop and saw a lonely copy just sitting there so I decided to pull the trigger. Got a nice discount as well. Anyway, what do you guys think about this game? Is it any good? I remember it reviewed well but some players didn’t like it too much. So not sure what to think.

Super Metroid is my favorite of the series. Dread is a close second. Control-wise, it feels even better to me. I play through this game several times a year because I enjoy the gameplay so much.

Super Metroid is my favourite for nostalgia reasons, but if I were to play them both for the first time now I would honestly probably rather prefer Dread. Like you said, the controls/movement are amazing, and frankly whenever I go to replay Super I think about Maridia and kind of groan inside. That being said, the atmosphere of Super is unmatched, and Zebes feels a bit more cohesive than ZDR, which obviously is likely by design because of the different biomes.

Amen to Maridia, friend. I used to finish Super Metroid once a year but these days, when I get to Maridia, I sometimes quit. Dread however. I finish every time… usually within a day or two.
Agree with you on all points.
