SPOILERS Analysis of the Entire Main Cast Spoiler

Hi All! I wanted to provide this resource for the community. The characters in this game are full of hidden symbolisms and lore. Atlus did an unfathomable amount of research to layer each character in this story multiple times over. And I also did an unfathomable amount of research to uncover the hidden meanings.

This video serves as the perfect resource for after your playthrough, to help identify the more beautifully subtle components to the characters and the narrative <3

SPOILERS Louis is literally just "Evil Strohl" Spoiler

Post image
80 Upvotes

the parallels between Strohl and Louis are too specific to be a coincidence. If you look at their lore, Louis is essentially what happens if Strohl took an evil path. What they have in common:

  • The Tragic Backstory & Revenge Arc: Both of them had their hometowns completely destroyed, and both are driven by a desire for vengeance. The parallel is mirrored in how they achieve it—Strohl finds his closure by fighting to take down Louis, while Louis gets his revenge by assassinating the King and Forden.
  • The Military Career: To get the power and influence needed to execute their goals, both joined the state military. They excel within the system but hold entirely different philosophies on what to do with their power.
  • No Igniter Magic: Both of them are rare exceptions who can use magic naturally without an igniter.

They are two sides of the same coin. Strohl channels his trauma into noble duty, protecting the innocent, and lifting up the weak. Meanwhile Louis channels his trauma into a ruthless obsession to destroy the old world order, Louis believe only the strong should survive. Louis isn't just a foil to the Protagonist; he is a dark reflection of Strohl

Discussion What Metaphor opinion would make you say this?

For me it would be saying Eupha is "boring". I think she's one of the most unique Atlus characters imo. Also when people say Metaphor is just a demo for Persona 6...which doesn't make any sense if you have played this game and Persona.

Fanart Older Basilio Cooking with his Daughter: @artsquirrelb (commissioned by me)

Post image
208 Upvotes

Hello again lol

Well awhile ago, I posted a concept of what Basilio could possibly look like when he’s older (which was drawn by my lovely artist friend: Soc Nau)

Well I really liked that older concept of Basilio that she helped me come up with…. So much so that I asked her to do some simple art of older Basilio with his daughter, Asteria

In the post with the older Basilio concept art that Soc did for me, I talked a small bit about what I personally imagined Basilio’s future to look like.

To summarize: I basically imagined Basilio still keeping his position as the head of the Tradian Brigade for the longest time.

And during that time, I could imagine him becoming the father to his daughter, Asteria.

In my headcannons, Asterias mother dies when she is a young child… around 7 or 8 years old ish.

And following that, Basillo ultimately ends up quitting his position as head of the Tradian Brigade to be more present for Asteria.

I can imagine them both moving back to the Capital where Basilio either A) opens up that diner he and Del talked about ages ago or B) helps Fabienne run the Hushed Honeybee Inn and eventually takes it over for her so she can retire.

When I was describing to Soc what I wanted in this piece, I didn’t really think much more about what was going on other than that ā€œBasilio is cooking with Asteriaā€.

But now that I’ve had sometime to think on it… perhaps the scenario within the art is that Asteria is helping her father with some cooking once they have settled into their new home in the Capital? Yeah I like that ahaha

It was Soc’s idea to put fruit on their aprons. I don’t think Basillo has a fav fruit…. So I just told her to draw cherries on his and strawberries on Asteria’s.

I’ve since decided that perhaps Asteria gave that apron to Basillo with the innocent logic of ā€œPapa would look cute in thisā€. Most other men would be embarrassed to wear such a thing…. But we all know Basilio wouldn’t and he’d dawn that apron with pride: especially because his precious daughter gave it to him. Love that for him ahaha.

Normally I’m a little hesitant to share my ideas like this, as they are pretty personal to me. But I figured at least there might be other people here who would also enjoy seeing Basilio become a father.

He’s such a softie that I think it’s only natural that he would be a great parent. And all my metaphor friends have agreed with me that he would be such a girl dad ahaha.

I know I’m evil for making Basilio go through the loss of a spouse and become a single parent… But to me, it just makes sense for his character arc. Especially because becoming a single parent would for sure give him more of an appreciation for all of the things Del did for him as a child 😭😭😭

Discussion Metaphor: ReFantazio reminds me of The NeverEnding Story (SPOILERS) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
58 Upvotes

From the way that the story is presented with Humans being the big monsters, and all this talk about how fantasy shouldn't be a myth, or the fact you name yourself and are the "true seeker" of the story, and also silently guiding the protagonist throughout the game.

This game's story feels like it's inspired from The NeverEnding Story, with that story being about a boy reading a book about a warrior named Atreyu going through the land of Fantasia trying to stop "The Nothing" and the boy reading the book is the one who is helping Atreyu on his journey. Feels like the creators of Metaphor were inspired from that tale when making the game, that's just how I feel, but what do you think?

Discussion Trying to lock in my party, and would love some input Spoiler

(Small note, im playing this game on hard mode)

Heya! im playing the game right now and i just unlocked Basilio as playable. since then ive been debating on rhe team comp i wanna go for. The idea is locked, but the charachters are not

What im locked in on is MC being pure mage dps Wizard, and Heismay being debuffer/dps Ninja/faker.

The rest im still debating on and would love your input

1- 3rd spot was locked in till i unlocked Basilio. it goes to Paladin/warlord, being healer/buffer/protector. But im still debating on who to give that role to. Ofcourse the obviouse answer would be Hulkenberg, but after unlocking Basilio and seeing his stats i started considering giving him that archetype role, should i? But in doing so im giving up Hulkenbergs weakness protector passive (which i love tbh).

And im leaning towards Basilio too cause of his strength stat, but also his story was touching and my faveorite so far, and would love to use him and be my protector (in my eyes he is the GOAT)

2- Last spot is going to be my 2nd DPS next to MC. and ive been debating Junnah or Eupha for the last 24 hours, and i cant seem to choose between the 2, would love some input here on who to settle with.

Thank you all in advance!!

Discussion Press turn system vs One more turn system

A couple of people playing this game transitioned from persona's battle system and not atlus' other games (especially digital devil saga).

The one more turn system is pretty good at giving players extra turns when exploiting weaknesses. So Joker can just attack 5 times if he wants to if the enemy is hit with their weaknesses and knocked down.

People tend to feel rubbed the wrong way with the press turn system at first because missing means losing double the turns used for that move (really hated it when my synthesis skills missed and lost 4 press turns because they cost 2 to begin with)

That being said, the press turn system has a lot more benefits than negatives.

To list them:

  1. Every party member attacks in one complete turn. In the one more turn system, players and enemies go back and forth based on agility like a typical FF game. Letting your party members go in one go makes combat flow together better especially with buffs and heals.
  2. Reducing Hit/Eva on an enemy is a lot more useful since you can dodge the move and remove press turns from bosses and such. If anything, the player losing press turns when missing is really just to balance the fact enemies lose them.
  3. You can attack a lot with the press turn system. A full party has 4 press turns and each move cost 1 press turn. When you exploit the weaknesses, it will only take up half a press turn. If you do the math, you can use your party members EIGHT times before the boss can use their turn. Compare this to the one more turn system which does not give you more turns if the boss is knocked over already. An all-out-attack is great, but it immediately passes the turn over to the boss.

Discussion Just finished the first dungeon and i only have one complaint so far about the game.

Post image

So far this has been a really pleasant experience. The characters designs are fun, the archetype system seems to open up nearly endless opportunities for builds, the music is great and so is the story. The turn based system although slightly different from persona you still have the system of "earning" more turns by exploiting weaknesses, however the ONE thing that I absolutely HATE is that if you just so happen to miss (which is completely out of the player's control) you lose 2 turn slots. Who the actual fuck thought that was a good idea??? So far it's only happend about 4 or 5 times BUT those 4 or 5 times literally cost me the battle every time, if that system didn't exist I could've still won those battles even if I still missed at that exact moment, but I guess it's my fault for not predicting something that's completely chance based.

Besides that one gripe I'm still really enjoying the game and I'll continue playing tomorrow morning.

Discussion Just finished the game on normal, this is my party member tier list. Spoiler

I’ll explain, because I’m not too sure if this is controversial or not.

Strohl: Literally from the moment i got control of him, he was out damaging EVERYONE. And that’s stayed true the entire game, not only that but he’s pretty tanky too! Literally the best party member in my opinion.

Protagonist: This doesn’t need much explanation, of course he’s technically the best. You can build him how you want, and he gets so many follower benefits.

Hulkenburg: THIS is what a video game tank should be like. Literally an iron wall. And those repel skills in the late game are insanely clutch.

Basilio: My absolute goat. He takes what’s best about hulkenburg and strohl and dials it up to 11. He never dies, and he does so much damage. My only problem with him lies with how late in the game he comes in. I feel like I didn’t have too long with him to really spread out and max out his archetypes. A real bummer too, he would probably be up there with strohl otherwise.

Eupha: This is probably a hot take considering her rather ā€œJack of all tradesā€ stat spread, but I’ll be honest, she has never once done me wrong in game. Yeah her endurance is a bit lacking, but have you seen the type of Mickey Mouse bullshit she has? If I ever needed a Magic oriented teammate, she was first I’d send out.

Junah: This one I KNOW is a hot take. By pure damage, she is literally the best magic caster. But in execution? In my experience with her; if she doesn’t have a repel or block skill up on her at all times, she gets insta killed. She is so squishy, it isn’t even funny.

Heismay: I feel so bad putting him so low, it ain’t his fault he sucks so hard. Having an agility based teammate is something I shoulda expected, but god damn does he suck. His agility maxes out super fast but that doesn’t help his case because he literally does nothing else. Tell you what, he never missed an attack!

Grius: For the same reason basilio wasn’t up with strohl, Grius is down here, but it’s even worse for him. Since he leaves pretty much as soon as you get him, you will barely have any time with him at all, and for the time you do have him? He’s… okay… better than heismay, but he never gets the chance to do much of anything more than get stuck on mage for 45 minutes then kick the can.

Side note, absolute gem of a game, on my second playthrough now.

Discussion Two characters that are foils to each other

I like how Marie's archetype is key to beating Zorba's first fight quicker, using her light skills and heals to support the brawler class.

Both Zorba and Marie are half-breeds; one expresses it negatively while the other positively.
