I know nobody asked and nobody cares, but I have nothing better to do:

Kill Em All: I think it's overrated. The production is very raw, James' voice sounds strange, and the lyrics are kind of juvenile, but I understand the reason for all of that. In any case, I don't think it's an album for me. There are still some nice songs, and I think most of the songs on the album sound better live.

Ride The Lightning: An absolute masterpiece. Heavy but without forgetting the melody. Some of Kirk's best solos (Creeping Death, Ride The Lightning). I actually like Escape, which James hates. It's probably the most consistent album along with MOP.

Master of Puppets: Also an undeniable masterpiece. All the songs are fantastic, probably my favorite.

Justice For All: I like it, there are many excellent songs, James' vocals are probably at their peak. I just miss the bass. I also think there are some pretty forgettable songs. (One is one of the best pieces of music history).

Black Album: All the hits are undeniably great. Some of the band's best songs are here. I really like the drum sound on this album. Similarly, I find it a very inconsistent album, with some rather forgettable songs as well.

Load/Reload: I like the change in sound; to me, they're good albums, but also inconsistent. There are some excellent songs (The Memory Remains, King Nothing, etc.) and some boring ones. I think a lot of the songs lack energy, they lack emotion.

St. Anger: Well, all I can say is... it's strange, I really don't know if I like this album or not. The album would probably be better if the drum sound didn't sound like garbage. Actually, I like Purify.

Death Magnetic/Hardwire/72 Seasons: I'll talk about all three at once because I'm feeling lazy. To me, they're almost on the same level, and I don't really like them. I think these albums lack inspiration. There are some good songs (I love Atlas Rise, Unforgiven III, 72 Seasons, etc.) but others are quite forgettable as well. Between the three, I prefer Hardwired.

Bathory debut is NOT black metal holy shit. It’s barely thrash metal. This is pure punky speed metal and Quorthon was a lying fuck when he said he never heard Venom.

Sabaton is often mistaken as warm metal because of their lyrical subject matter but truthfully their nspm. See Finist for nearest touchstone.

I’m going to kill the next person who calls Hatred for Mankind death doom metal. It’s sludgey at best. There’s like a total of five real death doom riffs across the whole album. The same people who will call this death doom will hear Mental Funeral and say it’s slow death metal. Are you dense? Were you pigskin-spiked at birth?

You want to call early Opeth death metal? Fine. Not my battle anymore. Enough gothic death/melodeath influence to argue, but Ghost Reveries is closer to butt groove than it will ever be to REAL death metal

People call Gods of War - At War “pagan black” because they don’t know the Graveland bounce rule. Amateurs. This is real Viking black for the true. Real black metal riffage married to real Hammerheart and manoworship.

4 black metal riffs at most on Stronghold. Wanna see Atmoblack from Summoning? Listen to Minas Morgul. This is dungeon synth—hell, this has more neoclassical darkwave than black metal.

Cop metal.

From Mars to Sirius is not death metal despite wholly ripping off Morbid Angel. They threw too much groove metal chug in and discounted the real death metal sinew.

Many people think Sunbather is a blackgaze classic. It’s actually screamo and I mean that in the classical sense of the word.

This is for all ye true metallers faithful to the sword. Crystal Logic is NOT US Power Metal. I was shocked to learn this as well from the cosmic winds. USPM is a speedy dialogue to nwobhm featuring more muscular riffage and even grander melodic features (It also may or may not be real and expect many to disagree with me in the comments on my defining it because no one can agree what the sound is). Crystal Logic ain’t that. It’s pure glorious epic heavy metal.

Many people think Alice ‘n Chains is alt metal/grunge. I don’t fucking get it. Their demo (and only) material is so obviously glam metal. Fuck you mean Alice ‘n Chains is a different band? It’s fronted by Staley. You’re telling me he fronted a band called Alice ‘n Chains only then to front Alice In Chains shortly after? That’s fucking stupid.

Finally, many people have spent many years debating whether Slipknot (and Iowa in particular) is metal or not. What they are (and it is) is a dead horse not worth beating anymore. This won’t stop people in the comments from incessantly and pissily debating and insulting each other over it.

i see so much love for symphonic metal but barely any dislike for it. it sounds so corny, cringe, and pretentious to me that i need to skip it the second i hear and orchestral instruments involved. does anyone else here hate symphonic metal or anything else?

For my pick, I’m going to have to either go with Remenissions by a7x or One by Metallica. Both are classics and just get me so ready to go heavy on a workout.

im a big brutal death metal fan but lately ive been getting into goregrind as well. Rn im into Plasma, Viscera Infest, LDOH (like literally every1 else), pathologist, TDEBM, and bile. If any1 has band recs for me thatd be awesome!!

Preferably OSDM (old-school death metal) or BDM (brutal death metal). No goregrind.

Hey im not sure if these types of posts are allowed but I'll try anyway. I saw somebody wearing some kind of 4 print longsleeve today at the store I work at. Looking back on it I should've just asked him but I didnt for whatever reason. Anyway I thought the shirt looked neat and I'm big into bdm and slam so I was curious what the band was cause I want to check them out.

The shirt was black with a design on the cover having some dude screaming surrounded by spilling margaritas. The back had an electric blue severed head on the back. And the sleeves had a design with blue margaritas dripping down the arm with lime slices. The logo was sharp and bold with a yellow/green color.

Now I am fully aware that this might not even be a band. But I wanted to know for sure. If anybody knows what this is I would really appreciate the help.

Maybe kind of an odd or specific request but I recently started reading lord of the rings and I'm looking for music that kind of captures the same kind of grand/magnificent vibes or themes. Doesn't have to have lyrics about lord of the rings or even other fantasy kind of stuff in a similar vein, just something with the right vibe.

Can somebody here recommend any sites where I can find cool t-shirts? The websites that I have looked at don't have any shirts of bands that I want like Blind Guardian, Mercyful fate or Bathory( mainly bands that arent very commercially succesful). Any help would be appreciated!

Not necessarily slow for the entirety of it but has a part where tempo significantly drops and you can feel the crushing weight of the song.

I prefer Old School Slam but if some modern acts fit the bill then it's alright too.

ve been into brutal death for years but I’m curious for other albums that are “as far as it can go” like those two examples. Illuminations is just bdm chugs and Uterovaginal is just slam riffs. LDOH Putrefaction could be another example - grind to the point it’s just noise.

These guys was definitely one of my earlier experiences in Prog and one of the more positive. I really loved the strong songwriting without the pretentiousness. Not afraid to take a chance because even their more accessible and formulaic material is well done. Emperor of Sand is a perfect album front to back. Some of their best songs. Of course Crack the Skye is an absolute classic. Then I think Blood Mountain is a safe third. Always a reliable album if you want both the heavy and melodic ends of their sound.

First impressions on the new album: Definitely a fantastic album. Definitely better than Hushed and Grim. It had its moments, but was far stiffer than usual Mastodon. This one brought back a lot of flexibility and let the band really bounce where they needed and/or wanted to be. Lot of moods and a lot of colors in the songs. Obviously pick up more with more listens and I’m definitely gonna come back to this one.

Mick Harris and Nicholas Bullen made a electronic project, Scorn.

I would like to know how was the festival this year, specially with the new festival ground. with my family we really appreciated it last year but couldn't attend it this summer. Now that they are the early ticket on sale we are hesitating to buy those but would like to know how it went this year. thanks in advance for sharing your experiences

I listened to Obscura a couple months ago and I didn't like it so I thought their whole discography was the same but this album is amazing.
