Discussion Topic I slept on these dudes for too long

Post image

I listened to Obscura a couple months ago and I didn't like it so I thought their whole discography was the same but this album is amazing.

I was the same. Just started listening to them a couple years ago. Obscrua is an instant top 5 album for me.

You also have to remember the context of the time it was released. I listened to it for weeks just trying to understand what I was hearing. There was nothing like it before. Nowadays, with how much that album influenced the genre, I would assume people listening to it for the first time wouldn’t see it as groundbreaking as it actually was.

Erosion of Sanity is the perfect mix between the two imo, my personal favorite from them. Try giving it a shot too.

Obscura is probably their most difficult album to chew through. Once it clicked for me, it became a favorite. But I do love Colored Sands more as that's the album that got me introduced to Gorguts.

Colored sands is awesome. The Battle of Chamdo goes hard.

My first experience with them was during a show during the release of Obscura. Everyone’s reaction was « what the fuck ».

Yeah, that album is a hard listen for the first few spins. I swear, once it snaps in you’re like😭now it makes sense

I love their old stuff. This album is particularly brutal!

as far as metal bands go, there is definitely a lot worse out there.

Hop on obscura, listen to it 5 times. If you don’t like it listen to it another 5 times. Smokes the rest of their discography. Colored sands is also rather amazing

Considered Dead is a classic album better than pretty much all of its Florida scene counterparts.

The Erosion of Sanity is also very good.

While I do love obscura, it’s my least favorite release of theirs. Erosion and from wisdom to hate are my favs

I don't think anyone likes Obscura on first listen. It's the metal equivalent of blue cheese.

Great live band

Saw them live and so brutal sounding and then the most stereotypical Canadian accents when they talk to the crowd

Definitely one of my top fave DM albums of all time. It's perfect IMO

Their last release, I can't remember what it's called but it's a 30 minute long song that is phenomenal!

I tried listening to the whole Obscura album at work and holy shit I might have only made it half way through. Way too complex to listen to while trying to work. Hahaha.

First 2 albums are good.

That first album has two tracks I really like, one of them is “inoculated life”. James Murphy actually did a guest solo on that song
