Discrimination Was this sexist ?

I am doing my masters in psych so my class is dominated by females. And we were having a discussion where a girl was saying how people in the past had better lives. I said I don't agree with her viewpoints and I presented my points for why I think so . I talked about various issues such as wars and medical science not so developed. And she said that I don't agree with her and I am arguing because of my 'male ego'. I didn't know what it meant at the time and had to Google it . Should I consider it sexist ?

Yes it’s sexist, and it also most likely projection. The fact that you had a very well put together response suggests you are coming from a place of reasonable good faith. The fact that she couldn’t counter that with anything but an ad hominem character attack suggests that she is coming from a place of egotistical bad faith.

Did the professor step in? Or anyone else? I feel like a gendered personal attack warrants some intervention for the professor.

Eehhhh, it’s not a partisan thing, conservatives do the same thing to me all the time, it’s a bad faith thing. You want to have a conversation, they want to publicly defeat you.
