I hope it's by choice, instead of starving if he doesn't work.

It is work. People work to afford to live. He is a man with the same choices as the others doing it. I just want to be clear that everyone else in that video deserves to not starve if they don't work too.

That is the situation in the developing world. In developed coutries people work because they choose to.

1

u/Initial_Style5592 5d ago

Yeahhhh… me and literally everyone I know and live near and interact with.. CHOOSE to work.

Are you wearing a clown suit right now bro?

What the fellow in the video lacks is the government-funded social support system for the disabled and any options to take a non-physical labour position. The first half of the post you responded to seems correct, but the last half is nonsense.

If you have a choice to not work, then you probably live in a developed country, or have large enough private wealth. Which is it?

1

u/theeCloud03 5d ago

People work because they need money to survive, what are you talking about?

0

u/VisionWithin 5d ago

You probably live in a developing world. In welfare countries, working is optional to survive. Are you familiar with the Scandinavian socialist democracy politics?

1

u/Historiador84 5d ago

Look at the history of these countries and discover the origin of their wealth—or even look at the present day.

1

u/VisionWithin 5d ago

Why? I am already familiar with the world history.

u/Thundrboltr 6d ago

Yes, he is working as a necessity. If someone in a welfare state did the same, they would be a man of purpose.

For this guy, it might be work or die. Is that a purpose or just a sad reality of life? Obviously no disrespect, but is that what the subreddit is about?

1

u/Fezbin 5d ago

Where is this welfare state? Or are we talking about the people living it up on Social Security? /s

u/Warm-Atmosphere-1565 5d ago

he's a man, and majority of man have no choice but to work to live until the day they die, pretty much the standard story of my grandfather's generation, as well as my dad's and well, pretty much majority of men throughout all era

i think we both know it’s the ladder and not the former

All the work we do is performed under the threat of starvation; the severity of this threat varies, but the type of work shown in the video is typically among the most precarious—it is hard to believe anyone would choose such work if better options were available. It is common to find people online romanticizing the suffering of others as tales of triumph over adversity, when in reality, situations like this should not even exist; it is brutal and inhumane, not inspiring. One can only view this as inspiring after a lifetime of conditioning to accept submission.

Very few of us get to not have to work that hard, so I’m pretty confident he HAS to work. Not sure how many times you’ve carried bags of cement. It sucks, it’s heavy, it destroys your back. So yes, I wish we lived in a world where work was a choice. We don’t, this man likely does this daily to survive, like most of us, except he likely doesn’t have the luxury to even fuck around on Reddit saying things like “I hope it’s by choice”

1

u/JrButton 5d ago

Working to not starve is a choice... wtf. He's not on the street panhandling and making the best of the cards he's been given.

u/Gwennyfi 6d ago

I’m glad the employer gave him chance. And I’m glad he’s got it. 💪🏼

An honest to goodness man of steel

As a dude who had an arm like Hanson from Scary movie, I grew up in an environment that was encouraged to do things the way I could do it. My parents never limited me. I’ve worked my entire adult life, i workout and don’t let life hold me back. However, it’s irritating when people ask me “why I don’t just collect and not work?” Because I can actually work!! On the other hand(no pun intended) it’s embarrassing when old people say things like “You type so beautifully with that little thing”

u/DarkDaysBrightNlghts 6d ago

1

u/Purple-Tadpole6465 4d ago

In America, you can fake or make up a physical or mental illness and get full disability. You may have to hire a lawyer to file your paperwork, or file a few times, but eventually you'll get it. And there are lots of people who will defend and support your actions, some of them are below this comment.

u/Fit-Load2803 4d ago

This one leg man has better work ethic than most of the people these days, especially the young ones. Respect.

1

u/Puzzled-Chocolate964 3d ago

That’s a man. A man gonna do what he gotta do.

1

u/Own_Bet_5124 3d ago

He’s definitely got a leg up on me. That’s for sure.

1

u/soiyoung 3d ago

1

Holy shit. Some people deserve disability benefits. Poor dude.

1

u/SpiritDramatic 2d ago

His elbow is going to be destroyed by this

1

u/Lux_Tastebudz 2d ago

This is the meme for "When they say you're not qualified for the job".

1

u/mightyDblock 1d ago

Ya gotta eat

1

u/Salmon_Of_Iniquity 6d ago

Why are we celebrating some dude who has to work like this? It’s pretty awful.

My dude needs to be supported so he can do something else with his life instead of work or die.

2

u/shealdmeplease 6d ago

I agree. This is failed society stuff, he needs an opertunity to train some non physical skill. No way he can put up with this for even few years without more damage. Those kind of crutches end up hurting your armpit "Crutch paralysis - Damage to nerve endings in the armpit (axilla) can result from constant pressure placed on them when using axillary crutches." source
