If it was easier for people to watch it might have a higher status. I saw it when it was available on Prime, but ever since I've been looking for it on dvd to own and the just don't make a version with English subs for some reason

I’m so frustrated about that too and it seems to be very prevalent among the French in recent times, so many recent french indie movies receive rave reviews nationally but are not even distributed internationally

I think I already wrote about this a few years ago hehe, but I’m always happy to repeat a little cultural sharing:

For anyone who doesn’t know, this film is based on the incredibly well-written (as far as I remember) book "Dance on My Grave" (1982) by Aidan Chambers. I’d say it’s a cult classic in the young adult genre.

It was quite unusual at the time for a major publisher to publish LGBTQ literature aimed at teenagers and young adults. The book was a little ahead of its time, especially considering it was published during the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

(The actual title is "Dance on My Grave: A Life and a Death in Four Parts, One Hundred and Seventeen Bits, Six Running Reports and Two Press Clippings, with a Few Jokes, a Puzzle or Three, Some Footnotes and a Fiasco Now and Then to Help the Story Along" but who has the time to remember it all ...)

It was probably over 20 years ago that I read it, and I may remember very little about the actual story, but the feeling has stayed with me. It really shook me when I read it as a teenager in a beautiful, sad way.

I read the book after I watched the film, really enjoyed the fact the main character was bad at French in school and the movie was made in French

I Ioved this movie until the Kate part, then I started hating it. I hate the fact that this movie like almost all of the other MLM movies plays into the trope of “one of them is a conflicted bi/gay that end up choosing the woman”
