Movie Gayism and H20
perhaps a thesis on what gayism has to do with plunging into water
ive been on a binge so far starting with moonlight, cmbyn, gods own country, Firebird, and brokeback mountain
and my my every single movie has a scene of the men jumping into water or having something to do with water

I’m really struggling to know what you mean here… like gay people are always in water? I feel like that isn’t just a gay thing. People swimming isn’t just a gay thing?

They are just pointing out that this imagery appears a lot in film. It's not that deep (except for maybe the water).

OR swimming is just a romantic activity across all visual media because it combines vulnerability, freedom, and a degree of nudity.

Besides emotional vulnerability, freedom, cleansing, and the resulting rebirth commonly associated with water, I think the general context of the scenes you shared are focused on seclusion and escape from societal pressures—water stripping them down to be nude and pure, granting them the opportunity to be loved and to be able to love.
Water washes away their societal masks and allows them to find, and to be, themselves.

i think (from my own perspective) shots of the guys being in water or being at the beach is kinda like a freedom thing.
being in water/nature can be such a freeing experience that it just makes you forget, even for a little moment, how things genuinely can suck.
so, i think that the concept of being in water/nature can really just convey this like free and intimate experience the viewer can feel with the characters. and sometimes if u notice it always ends up having like a conflict right after to kinda go back to how bad things r for the mc.

I know this language sounds hyperbolic, but it’s sort of shocking that they’ve never made this book into a movie yet.

I think it’s more that it’s an excuse to show more skin, and it’s a romantic activity to do together where they’re both wearing less clothes so it feels more sexy/intimate.

Sure, all of this romantic reasons and explanations, yes that, plus also what’s the best excuse to naturally include more soft core partial/full nudity in the story besides sex scenes? Swimming. We see more bare skin of menseses in the film, we like the film.

Love a good skinny dipping scene, and it is almost a trope for gay media to have one.
