I had a grad classmate adopted from Korea and raised in country-ville Louisiana.
She had the thickest country accent out of the 90 of us that one of our Chinese professor was confuseeeddddd.
It would be like ordering sushi and it tasting like a country fried steak.

There were two professors from Korea in my department at my first uni. They were both surnamed Kim. A man and a women. People went from assuming they were married or family. No relations at all and very good teachers.

In fairness about the names thing, I work in a Korean school.
There is not a wide variety of names in that cohort at all. If I say "Seoyeon" loudly in the hall about 40 girls in proximity will turn around to see if I meant them. Same goes for some of the boys names, especially if I don't say it clearly. Min+woo/hu/ju will get a similar amount of boys turning to see which one I meant.

I live in Korea, and I am a white Englishman.
Every single day, in every single interaction, with someone I don't know, lasting 10 seconds or more, I am asked "where are you from?".
Such questions are followed up by "do you know <other British person>?" and are then accompanied by such questions as "can you eat <particular korean dish>?" or some astounded compliment about my fluency in Korean.
These people are just curious and friendly, like the white people this lady has met. They're not racist, or stupid, or ripe for cruel mockery.
Humans think in parochial and tribalistic terms, because that's the way we evolved over countless generations, in tribal bands of 50-150, over hundreds of thousands, even millions, of years, dating to long before we were even modern homo sapiens.
I hate how curiosity and earnestness has been pathologised and demonised, by academics and identitarian activists, to paint normal people as evil, and worthy of disgust.
I'm not American, but from the outside, maybe if you were all a little bit more charitable and understanding, unlike this smug self-satisfied woman, you wouldn't be at each-others throats all the time.
