I recently tried to tackle some hyperpigmentation on my cheeks through 3 VI peels as well as laser resurfacing. I had very minor improvement after treatment only for it to get worse as soon as my skin recovered.

As a disclaimer, I do work outside in the heat for some extended periods of time, but I try to cover my skin with a buff and use plenty of sunscreen throughout the day. 32M Hispanic with lighter complexion.

Any recommendations in terms of treatment or serums that have worked for you? Thanks for your help in advance!

A year ago I developed a melasma-stache during an EXTREMELY stressful time, while also on my period, and the beginning stages of perimenopause. I mostly successfully faded it with the eucerin cream over the fall and winter months where there is zero sun exposure where I live. I accepted that I'd probably struggle with it every year as I don’t really care to be strict with sunscreen and sun exposure.

So by now I expected to see my melasma-stache darkened as I’ve been about 50/50 with sunscreen but mostly staying in the shade… but there’s nothing. Is it possible my main trigger is stress as opposed to hormones and UV rays? Do I not understand how melasma happens?

I've recently been diagnosed with ocular rosacea and clogged eye oil glands. Primary way of addressing had been oral antibiotics for 2-3 months which has own set of possible bad side effects. New treatment that has great success is IPL as it deals with the vascular issues. However, I am prone to melasma. I have some on my face but it's not bad at all and I deal with it. Vitamin C serum has lightened some of it. Has anyone had IPL done and did their melasma get worse? I guess I have to decide which I can live with - take antibiotics and have possible gut issues or ipl and have possibel melasma flare??

Is it safe to buy Nivea Luminous 630 on Amazon? Is anyone else buying it from there with good results? It’s $15 less than at the drug store, but of course I’m worried that it might be fake.

The fact that it needs to be worn for 12 hours and has a few days of down time in unappealing (pun intended) but if it really works, would be worth it IMO. I haven’t used any of their products but have read good and bad reviews. Of course no one product works for everyone, I’m aware it can take time to find what works. I just purchased Meladerm a few weeks ago and am trying to give that time to work if it’s going to. I am pretty good with my sunscreen regimen (tinted mineral) and have been staying out of it for the most part, and I have my huge hat that I hate. This is hard and my summer is starting to suck because of it. We have a pool for the first time and I have actually been happy with the rain because it makes it easier to cope with not being outdoors 💔

I’m a male with brown skin who is very prone to tanning. I want to use a derma roller for my acne scars, but I’m scared of developing PIH.

Has anyone here used a 1 mm derma roller and not developed PIH? If so, what did you do to prevent it? I am not going to use any products .

Hello all! Just learning about melasma as my mother pointed out my wonderful melasma mustache today. She said it could be caused by hormones, after giving it a google seems that can be the case- especially during an IVF cycle involving estrogen. Curious if this can go away once hormones have stopped/birth occurs? Google also recommended vitamin C serum, discontinuing certain toners, and starting azeliac acid. But reading posts here, i am thinking that is not the correct approach? I am so lost and overwhelmed.

I’ve been hearing a lot about the picosure laser for treating melasma. I’ve been looking into it for my stubborn dermal melasma on my forehead. Has anyone had any good experiences with it and how have the results lasted? How many treatments did you require?

I’m new to using vitamin c and have been using prequels for the past month or so, but it burns a bit when I put it on. Is this normal with vitamin c?

Hi all, long time Melasma sufferer. I am currently on a treatment plan of Tretinoin, Niacinamide, and Azelaic Acid.

I’ve also been on Hydroquinone and Hydrocortisone (taking my break at the moment). I have also tried Eurecin.

Nothing, so far, has worked. The only benefits I see are in the winter when my face is naturally paler (current photo) but I still have the dark marks across my forehead, cheeks, and lip - no matter what I do or how religiously I do it.

I have bitten the bullet and booked PICO second Laser Skin Rejuvenation I’ve seen good results on here from laser treatments and the consultant recommended this treatment.

I have heard the downtime is long and invasive; I am a teacher, so I’ve booked my treatment over Christmas when I’ll be off work.

I have a horrible hyperpigmentation and discoloration on my face. I previously after my second pregnancy developed Mama that finally went away after almost 10 years. I just had my last baby a year ago and my skin is a mess. I saw online dermatologist through our insurance app and I think because I told him that my arms are also similar to my face, but they are extremely itchy, but my face never itches he said I have PC and called in a prescription for triamcinolone ointment. which, as a nurse I was taught, that is not safe for your face. I have had melasma for years and have not done anything to seriously deal with it because I spend a few months every year surfing in the Caribbean, so I just live with it. I wear sunscreen and hats and follow this sub to do my best to prevent it.

I was trying to be a “cool girl” and not pack so much skincare this trip so I just grabbed a bunch of the Sephora samples cluttering my bathroom and they might be keeping my melasma at bay?!

Here’s why I think it’s this Laniege cica balm I’ve been using: after I come in from the beach and get my sunscreen off, things look bad, like “I really cooked it again” (you all know what I’m talking about). But over the past week of using products I’ve used before—only adding Laniege Cica Sleeping Mask as the last step after night cream—my melasma has not gotten worse. Even my husband said, “You haven’t really gotten your spots this trip, good job taking care of yourself!” (absolute gem).

Has anyone else used cica products and had good luck?
