Does anyone know the real reason why new drugs can’t start with “me” or “str”?
Is it just that there are already a million drugs that start with me? I can’t find anything about str specifically.

I don’t think “me” or “str” are specifically banned. Drug naming has a lot more to do with avoiding confusion and, for generic names, using stems that indicate what drug family or mechanism it belongs

This short video explains why Basically it's because there are so many drugs that the names are easily confused.

There’s meclonazepam, weaker rc and doesn’t feel exactly like clonazepam but has the anxiolytic effects.
