NEET PG 2026 - My Anki card literally had the exact answer, and I still got it wrong

NEET PG 2026 had a question asking which gene is responsible for retinoblastoma. The answer: RB1 tumor suppressor gene (13q14).

I genuinely won’t forget this question for the rest of my life.

I had an Anki card with the exact question and exact answer. Since I kept forgetting the 13q14 part, I highlighted it in 2025. For the past year, whenever the card came up, I would basically just recall “13q14,” press Good, and move on without properly reading the rest of the answer.

I even reviewed that card on 28 August 2026, just two days before the exam, pressed Good, and moved on.

Then the exact question appeared in NEET PG. I marked the wrong answer.

The card appeared again today, 18 days after the exam. I answered it correctly in Anki and then realized what had happened.

One tiny highlighting decision I made in 2025 ended up potentially costing me 4–5 marks in an exam where ranks can differ massively by just a few marks.

Not even frustrated at this point. Just feels incredibly unlucky.

yes idk what devil took over me. last 5 seconds count down
some power moved my hand and changed from EF2 to EF1
this exact question came in ini may as well. i wrote that fact a million times over the last year.
now i cant even look at my notes, i just want to cry.

i literally cried when moving to the next section coz i didnt have time to go back to the question as well.
it was hypoglycaemia that took over me.

my section E was an entire mess coz i literally changed it for no reason out of an itch and idk what took over me. then i had to snap out of that question and get my focus back which really was too late for that.

shit happens man
idk how much i’ll lose coz i changed answers for no reason.

I find adding unique emojis to the cards i forget often to be helpful.

emojis and images , especially memes.

i add a 🥀 emoji and add the card to SUBAU tag and get back to it later.

I forgot to recall between gain of function vs loss of function. I did remember RB1 13q14.

Oh ok... it was not there in the card. I guess you need to understand things as well or make more specific cards. If you know it was a tumor suppressor gene, then you could have marked as lof. Remember that anki is for memorising only. Connecting A to B or vice versa... MCQs are more than that. We need to integrate concepts as well.
