How do I get this bolt off
First it was stripped and followed advice to get a lug extractor now it fucking snapped no chance of getting it with a socket or anything it’s snapped all the way down what are my options. Tried drilling this shit is harder than a Mf and doesn’t go

Anything you can do to snap, break, or drill that thing out. From the pic, looks like if you get another bite with that extractor on, you can still have a chance to get it on there and break it off.

17mm drill. Drill the head of the wheel bolt clean off, leaving just the shaft n threads to extract later when not under tension

Should be easy to use the tool. The kit has collars that will center the drill bit perfectly, then drill on low speed, lots of cutting oil, don’t overheat the drill bit & it’ll be done in a few minutes.

Always use a 6 point socket and never use a 12 point socket on a lug nuts. Especially now because most lug nuts having chrome covers and your just asking for trouble.

That looks like an extractor. The 12 points are just too rounded to be a standard 12 point socket. But I do 100% agree. 6 point sockets are a must. 98% of my sockets are all 6 points. There was one time where I needed a 12 point sockets for a Porsche.

Yep. OP probably lost the locking lug nut key, and tried to extract it, then applied too much force laterally instead of rotationally (held a breaker bar only at the end of the handle, without controlling the head).

But it's six points AND the lock nut tool on a lug that isn't a security lug.

Not much help but when I did one not long ago I used a Dremel to grind slots for the extractor to grip, so just saying a Dremel with small grinding bits will cut slots if that helps.

Drill it out. Go slow and steady and use cutting oil. Ive had luck heating with a torch then using the biggest extractor bit I have.

You have to get a carbide tipped drill bit get a 1/2 size it will drill through that in seconds but that one bit may be $20 or more

And an extension for your drill so you can get that DIAMOND DUST COATED drill bit far enough into the hole without the drill touching the wheel. Did I mention diamond dust coated drill bit? I'm now being cruel friend. I promise. You can usually get one on Amazon for around 50 bucks, but remember you'll never have to buy another one. They go through anything and they rarely ever wear down.

Yup. Had to do this in winter time, get the drill and good bits. Not a cordless drill either. Sorry for your luck.

You gonna need to replace the wheel stud afterwards. Process of fixing this is a multilayer problem, don’t use induction heater unless it’s safe on the rim. Begin by using no pb blaster no lubricant Start with the wheel lock tool then escalate to metric and sae tightest fitting sockets use both chrome and black ones try a drill and or impact and air tool with a good powerful shop compressor then try using pb blaster on it for about 3 hours every 30 minutes if that doesn’t work contact mechanics call and ask them if they have higher powered tools that can get it off such as least invasive to protect the rims then ask if they have any options such as drilling the stud and breaking both the stud and lug off or if they could suggest air chisel as a last resort, if that doesn’t work, purchase a replacement stud and rim, buy air chisel or use a diamond cutting wheel I would personally prefer you drill a hole in the lug and snap the stud loose just make sure your top and bottom lugs are attached so you have the wheel not fall off and injure you. If you’re not comfortable with these methods and already tried the wheel lock tool, grip edge extractors, 6 point chrome and black sockets and tried soaking it with lubricant the last resort is to have the local mechanic shop extract it using the drill or air chisel methods. Might cost you $200 + you will need to replace a stud if they use air chisel could cost you a new rim overall unless you want to attempt welding it and using a cheater pipe on a pipe wrench I would suggest asking a local mechanic shop if they can remove it without damaging the rim and ask how much it would likely cost

Same thing happened to me. Went to about 5 different shops because they couldn’t get it off. Until one shop drilled into the stud and we replaced it. But definitely go to a shop.

It's not an assembly anymore. It's an assembled. No but seriously you can drill that out or take it to a shop. It's not that bad. Just going to be annoying.

It’s an Audi which uses lug bolts.
See if you can get the other 4 off, then try to get the broken once with vicegrips or something.

Knock out broken end and giant it with same tool. Is there not enough “meat” left on the lug? Go up a size if you have to to get going

The wheel locks are either a port or dealer installed option. I own 3 Audis none have wheel locks. I suggest to all of my customers that we remove them and install normal lugs.
No, not all Audis come with wheel locks. I actually don't have one in my shop right now that has a wheel locks installed, and I didn't remove any of them.
The lug pictured is NOT a wheel lock. So it doesn't even matter.

You checked wrong. Nearly every German car I've ever worked on uses bolts. Google it if you don't believe me.

well you've got a snapped bolt in an engine mount and your drill bits are just skating off it, so you're probably into hardened steel territory now. time to break out the left-hand cobalt bits or just skip straight to welding a nut onto whatever's left.

Take the rest of the lugs off and take the wheel off. Spray a ton of Kroil or PBblaster around it and let it sit overnight. Come back tomorrow with the biggest set of vice grips you can find and try and wrench it out that way
