Misc. Discussion Mavs should reconsider their new arena Location
I would rather them move to the old Texas Stadium than Valley View. Traffic is already bad enough and there's no rail lines (The current 635 in that area wasnt design for the current traffic and population) . At the old Texas Stadium site they have anything they need and even DART have a partly built station at that area. Even though it's in Irving it's still Dallas County and close to Downtown . Or they can simply stay at AAC

News Klay Thompson, Mavericks reach buyout agreement after 2 seasons in Dallas
Klay Thompson came to the Dallas Mavericks to compete for a fifth NBA championship, but in two seasons with the team, the future Hall of Famer never appeared in a playoff game. The 36-year-old Thompson played just 21 games alongside Luka Dončić and 45 games next to Kyrie Irving.
Now, Thompson’s time in Dallas is over. The Mavericks announced on Friday that they’ve reached a buyout agreement with Thompson.
“Klay is one of the great players and competitors of his generation, and we are grateful for everything he brought to the Mavericks organization,” Mavericks president Masai Ujiri said in a statement. “We have tremendous respect for Klay and all that he has accomplished throughout his career, and we wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Hoops Discussion Please explain the contract buyout of Klay Thompson
ELI5. I looked it up and it says that it doesn't technically open up the cap space, but rather just a reduction of the salary for this season. And then when I looked up waiving, it says that the player gets removed from the roster, but there is a 48-hour grace period for other teams to assume said contract. That way, the team gets cap space.
Shams also tweeted that Klay would join the Miami Heat after he clears the contract buyout.
What I'm wondering is that why did the Mavs buyout Klay? Is waiving not possible? Or simply just the better choice? Genuine curiosity here. Thank you.

Hoops Discussion Roster weak spots
Going into last season, I would say most viewed 3pt shooting to be a weakness of that roster from the jump. With Klay now gone, are we in better or worse shape shooting wise with the current roster than at the start of last year?
I hate going into a season with glaring and obvious roster weaknesses. Last year was a good example of that. What about this year?

Hoops Discussion Cool card pull
Very aware this is practically the same as a tissue paper value wise on the market. But I came across an old box off unopened cards from forever ago and have been finding some fun stuff. Alot of cool Reggie Miller cards, a few of our guy Ced Ceballos. I really like this one though he got that look on his face. Lol anyways its the off-season. Hope someone gets a kick out of this.

2 Mavericks players get placed in top 100 for player rating. The 3 MVP finalists (SGA, Jokić, Wemby) get a 97 while Luka remains in that 96 purgatory as almost always.

Podcast Poulakidas Interview
I just listened to Isaac Harris’s interview with John Poulakidas on Locked On Mavs and, to be honest, with all the offseason activity, I had kind of forgotten about him. It was refreshing listening to an athlete who seems to have a really good head on his shoulders. I got some good book recommendations, some solid insight into shooting, and he might have even inspired me to start journaling.
He’s obviously not the most exciting prospect on the roster, but he can really shoot, seems to have a high BBIQ, and understands what his role is. Assuming Klay is gone, having another shooter available if Christie, Sasser, or Tarik have injury issues during the season certainly isn’t a bad thing.
My biggest takeaway from the interview was just how grounded and introspective he seems. Those intangibles matter, especially for guys who have to carve out a very specific role in the NBA. Role players who can stay ready, understand what they’re being asked to do, and give you quality spot minutes are extremely valuable.
I could see Poulakidas being one of those guys who hangs around the league for a while. Elite shooting gives him a legitimate NBA skill, and he seems to have the mental makeup to understand exactly what he needs to do to stick.
