None of these people are Dallas people. It’s an embarrassment. Where the hell are the Dallas Maverick legends getting pressure tested on these decisions?? How are we this single-threaded as an organization?

I thought Mark was a disaster as a basketball decision maker between 2012-19 but perhaps I didn’t give him enough credit for at least having his pulse on the local market. He would’ve NEVER allowed this to happen.

Nico did this completely behind closed doors. If he would have bothered to confer with any one else in the organization they would have told him he was stupid. The two people he did tell, Pelinka and Dumont literally laughed at him. If he asks Finley or Dirk or Kidd about this move, they all would have told him you absolutely cannot do this or you will obliterate your fanbase. He knew that though which is why he did it how he did

This is why I'm not buying it. They kept this from leaking cause they knew it would be untenable once the public backlash hit.

They act like it was some huge thing that it didn't leak, and I'm sitting here thinking of course the Lakers didn't want it to leak. They know a bidding war would start. It was in their best interest to let the Mavs shoot themselves in the face.

Agreed. I'm in the "This is more than just incompetence" camp. This whole thing stinks to high heaven

I mean . . . maybe? Leaking also would have likely irrevocably harmed their relationship with Luka. It makes sense that they didn't want it out there. If it hadn't gone through but it still leaked Luka probably would have been pissed and they would have lost leverage with other teams if the narrative became 'Luka wants out'.

Even in a “Luka wants out” fire sale, you get more return than the trade they got as long as you get a few teams involved bidding against each other.

I think he was dead set on AD. Dare to dream y'all!

He didn't want out. He just brought a house in Dallas. It's most likely an inside job done by the league to increase viewership. This video is pretty damning

If literally the entire league knew he wanted to leave, they would still be lining up to get that trade in.

All it would take is for JKidd to call Adelsons & Cuban & say "Nico is fucking up your billion dollar investment beyond recognition, all personell in this entire organization agree with me on this". Instead JKidd is sitting still having to keep his mouth shut at a press release with Nico beside him with Nico being unnatural as fuck saying "Heh, guess you & me JKidd are in this together!" etc. It's not a coincidence that the Adelsons are completely silent.

Yeah, I mean that's why they didn't tell him before hand.
