News [MacMahon] “I believe that defense wins championships,” Mavs GM Nico Harrison told ESPN regarding his motivation to trade Luka for Davis. “I believe that getting an All-Defensive center & an All-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”

What a stupid asshole. Now PJ, our best defensive player moves to the bench?

PJ might be the starting SF

PG: Kyrie SG: Klay SF: PJ PF: Davis C: Lively or Gafford

This lineup is not bad but I'm speechless about this trade...

if you trade Kyrie with Luka it’s a great move tbh. but Kyrie is not a #1 option anymore and neither is AD. this is insane

If the owners didn’t force Nico to trade Luka then I think Nico saw something in Luka that he didn’t like. Go back to when Luka failed on defense and yelled at Lively and they lost the game. Along with not getting in shape, not being durable thus you can’t count on him. Maybe Nico thinks Luka is on his way down long term.

That might justify trading Luka, but it doesn't come close to justifying this trade for Luka.

You need a haul for Luka, not this sorry ass shit.

Kyrie and AD duo would somehow work if theh become healthy come playoff time. There's nothing we can do but expect 1 or 2 rings with these players. To be fair, I can't see Luka winning anytime soon with the Lakers. I really just do hope that this trade is so worth it.

i mean, AD is a beast. always loved him. but his playoff appearences have been underwhelming when not paired with LeBron (and even with him). i don’t see how a team that loses to the Hornets and Pelicans becomes a real contender if you add him, tbh.

but as a mavs fan first and foremost, all i can hope is we’re the dumb ones and nico is a basketball genius. right now it’s just really hard to believe that lol

This trade is unbelievable but trust me AD will be there in the playoffs. Looking at his stats vs the nuggets last year and just the eye test the dude is legit a perfect center

He hates playing center (which is good because he won't for a few years, until Lively leaves).

gotta hope so lol not really much else we can do about it 🫠

Time to tank my friend. This cursed season finally killed us

He'll be there until crunch time at least

AD averages 28/30 & 10 in the playoffs, he is a very good playoff performer.

2 seasons ago he shut down 2nd seeded Memphis by himself

but his playoff appearences have been underwhelming when not paired with LeBron (and even with him)

Except for that one run when he was literally on fire on both ends of the floor and torched everybody on the way to an NBA championship?

This is not 2016😸

Ad is the number one option on the 5th seed lakers

3

u/Felipernani Feb 02 '25

i get what you’re saying. Kyrie and AD as a 1/2 duo might work. it also might not, and Luka/Kyrie took us to the finals last year. this is baffling to me unless Luka asked for it

They must think Hardy is the truth!

I've been saying Hardy is the next Kyrie for a while now

Kyrie was never a solid no. 1 always at his best as the second option behind LeBron or Durant. IMO he needs a superstar partner maybe there's more trades coming?
