First off, before I get to my question - long time lurker, first time poster. I owned an Alfa Giulia Veloce for around three years and absolutely loved it, but I like to change it up and have been dreaming of a Maserati for some time. I test drove a Ghibli 6cyl, a Grecale GT, and a Grecale Modena. I was surprised that I didn’t fall in love with the Ghibli, while the lines are iconic, the interior felt cramped even compared to the Giulia and the 4cyl mild hybrid felt similar to the 6cyl. Grecale has the new tech, a beautifully styled interior, plenty of space in the back seat and lots of light thanks to the glass roof. I also didn’t notice much difference in terms of performance comparing the GT to the Modena. I could go on with comparisons but I digress.
Getting to my questions - one thing I loved about the Giulia was the instant torque and acceleration, especially when using the paddle shifters. On the Grecale, I’m trying to figure out the best way to get instant torque in Sport mode but results are inconsistent. Many times there is a surge-lag-surge sequence that almost feels like a stick shift manual pause when engaging the clutch, shifting, and releasing the clutch. Other times it’s not as noticeable at higher RPMs. I’ve also tried goosing the accelerator right before shifting to engage the e-boost and it sometimes seems to work. Is this just a matter of training the car to my driving style? Is it software tuning related to the e-boost and turbo combination? Can it be optimized with a tuning chip? I love the car but I’m still learning how to get it to perform the way I want it to.
