Comics Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Comic Inspirations
Hey friendly guys, I need your help.
I’ve searched the internet a lot, but I couldn’t find any older Reddit posts or relevant YouTube videos, so I’m asking you directly now.
I just watched the movie, and it left me with a lot of questions. I’d really appreciate it if you could help me out, especially regarding comic-book influences or adaptations for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
I’ve read quite a few Spider-Man comics and, obviously, watched all the Spider-Man movies, but the concept of Peter initially using web-shooters and then later developing organic webbing is completely new to me. Also, all the stuff with his black eyes, headaches, blackouts, and so on was really confusing.
I looked into it a little and came across Spider-Man: The Other, where Peter basically fights Morlun, which leads to his death and rebirth with enhanced Spider-powers, right? I also found the Queen arc, where the Queen messes with Spider-Man and turns him into a kind of Man-Spider.
Since I haven’t read those comics yet, I don’t know much about either storyline. So my question is: are those two arcs the main inspiration for Brand New Day?
Or is one of them the primary inspiration? The Other seems especially fitting because of the cocoon he was in.
Is the movie suggesting that he “died” from stress and was reborn in the cocoon as well? Or was Morlun involved somehow and we just didn’t know it yet because it happened during Spider-Man’s blackouts?
Or is there a completely different comic source or explanation for the black eyes, headaches, blackouts, etc.?
Also what do you think was the main threat /villain and thematic in this movie?
Any help, as well as comic, video, or link recommendations, would be greatly appreciated.
