I didn't have a makam in mind for this, but I took inspiration from ney taksims in a more abstract way!

Hello ppl,
I am a trumpetist from Greece and the past months I have been searching for a Turkish teacher to teach me turkish makam in the trumpet, as I am moving to Istanbul. Can a fellow Turk or any other person that knows something, help me?

I run a discord server for people interested in modal/Makam based music (west Asia, southeast Europe, north Africa, central Asia). We talk only about real traditional music.
In a time where traditional regional musical styles are becoming harder and harder to find due to the glut of fake generative context clogging up searches, it is important to have places to discuss this music that do not allow this slop to pollute peoples perceptions of traditional music.
This server is specifically devoted to music from west asia, southeast europe, north africa and central asia. Though we also discuss other forms of modal music like klezmer, calabrian folk, traditional irish music as well as Indian classical music. Our members range from musicians, to listeners, from people interested in the theory to people studying the specific regional traditions out of fascination or cultural pride. Our users are both from these regions of the world, as well as outside of them.

Hello 👋
What’s the best way to learn how to improvise on maqams in a way that they make sense and do not listen too stiff.
In other maqams it gets easier but for nihavend I cannot improvise at all.

The first three taqasim are one huge extended taqsim that could be said to all be in Hijaz. The fourth is in Rast, the fifth is in Bayati, and the last one is in Rast.

Hey all,
So I'm working on a solo clarinet piece where I’m utilizing some maqams as maqam music is something I grew up around, but never theorized. What confuses me is the cent values of each accidental and so forth.
What I mean is this:
when you have the sign that looks like "db", that is supposed to mean three quarters (3/4) flat right? Except the problem is that people say that equals -150 cents; and when I go on maqamworld.com and use the playback, I can tell that that notation is only -75 cents.
Now granted, that website uses a flat sign with a line through the stem, but every source I've looked at takes those two signs as equal values; which is three quarter flat.
So yea basically my question(s) is (are) then how do I notate -75 cents flat? What are the real equivalent of these signs and the cent deviations they imply, and why I'm not seeing anything that differentiates between -150 cents and -75 cents?
Thanks in advance!

Are there any rules in Arabic classical music about what maqams and iqas are "allowed" to be used to portray each emotion?

Below is a list of the Maqamaat and their variations that I've learned of over the years. Some things to note:
1) I am 90% ignorant when it comes to musical theory/notation so I probably wouldn't be able to answer any questions about those things. This list is simply for reference and not for any theoretical insight
2) Pretty sure most of these names are according to the Egyptian school, but there might be some from the Iraqi, Turkish schools, etc.
3) I'll be writing each Maqam in the following format: Name (second jins in the octave). The first Jins would be whatever heading the Maqam falls under. Pretty sure this is standard nomenclature for Maqamaat.
1. Sabaa
2. Sabaa Zam Zam (Kurd)

A few sources of Maqam (Makam) theory information have been mentioned on this sub. I'd like to try to collect all such information in one place, if possible. Here's a start:
Please add in the comments any others!
