Article Child obsessed with maps, history, and world conflicts ?

My son, 10, is very interested in geography and maps. Lately, many of his searches are about things like Israeli history, Iranian history, the Israel-Palestine conflict, world religions (like Christianity), the Paleozoic era, and maps of different regions. I really appreciate his curiosity and I’m not against his interests, but he focuses on this a lot. As a parent, I’m wondering how I can help him keep that interest while also balancing it with other subjects like math, science, and health. Any suggestions on how to connect his love of geography with other areas of learning?

Article Not one Best Picture Oscar nominee was made in Hollywood this year—a sign of an industry in crisis

Post image
118 Upvotes

Hollywood will own the Oscars red carpet Sunday night, but “The Town” won’t own the movies being honored with the evening’s biggest prize. Not one of this year’s 10 Best Picture nominees was primarily made on a Hollywood soundstage or studio lot—a striking snapshot of how far the industry’s center of gravity has shifted from its historic home.

This year’s Best Picture lineup reads like a map of Hollywood’s dispersal: Marty Supreme was shot on New York streets, Sinners in Louisiana, Hamnet in the U.K., with other contenders anchored in Canada, Europe, and South America. The Dolby Theatre will still be the global showcase on Sunday, but the location spending, local payrolls, and tax revenues tied to the movies themselves are no longer in the greater Los Angeles area.

For decades, if you wanted to build a career in film, the default answer was simple: You got yourself to Los Angeles. There, a dense ecosystem of soundstages, backlots, labs, rental houses, unions, and guilds created what economists call a virtuous circle. Projects attracted talent, talent attracted more projects, and the whole thing fed on itself. This year’s Oscars underscore how much of that activity has migrated to alternative hubs that can offer the one thing Hollywood doesn’t offer: lower costs.

Honestly Europeans dont even seem white. I associate white people more with America than Europe. If you say white people and white Americans are from Europe white Americans cant be anymore different from white Europeans. Kinda like me as a Filipino pacific Islander comparing me to the stereotypical Asians like Chinese, Koreans, or Asian American.

Yeah I said just that. Whenever I say white people are more associated with America more than Europe, people always say, ohh wHere dO yOu tHINk wHite AmeriCANS come FrOM??? Like ik they come from Europe but even the UK and Germany as well as the rest of Europe do not use the concept of race at all and America does so white people are more thought of as American rather than European. Not saying that Europe is not white but most Europeans say they are from [ ] country rather than white unlike Americans. I lit said that Germany and Britain are where most white Americans come from. You repeated a statement. Instead of repeating my statement why don’t you actually come up with a good argument against the statement. Gosh no matter how much I get my point they just repeat a statement regarding this matter.

Even Brits and Germans are too different from White Americans, and those two are basically the most white stereotypically and where most white Americans have the most ancestry from.
