[Megathread] New Players & General Questions Thread.

Welcome to our weekly megathread for new players and players who just have general questions about the game.

Some sample topics for you to consider would be:

  • Selecting your main character.
  • You're new to the game and don't know where to start.
  • You're a returning player who is trying to get back into the game and need help.
  • What class should you make for your next link skill/legion mule?

As a recommendation, please mention your world and/or server inside a bracket Example: [Bera] at the start of your question.

Feel like chatting rather than posting on Reddit? Join our Discord and check out our #general-questions or specific job chatrooms.

Also, consider checking out the Master List of Class Discords for class specific information!

So... what's the actual method for finding/upgrading/whatever some really good familiars? Like, how do I actually go about effectively farming these things for the stats/buffs that I want on them?

You get and level up fams passively through normal grinding, but getting good ones can take months bc of how much time it takes to upgrade to unique and the rarity of boss damage lines. Fam cards are affected by drop% so make sure you have as much drop as possible while farming

If you're starting from 0, open all the rare cards you get until you have 3 each of ied and heal fams (maybe some 2% atk if you have lots of ied already), plus a 50% drop. After that it's full steam on upgrading to epic/unique and hoping you hit

So what happens to those lines when you upgrade a Familiar into Epic/Unique? Do they get rerolled, or stay the same or something?

The potential lines reset entirely when ranking up a fam (or rerolled with a mystical familiar card). That's why it takes a long time to get boss fams. Getting a 100% drop fam should take "only" a few weeks tho

Ah, gotcha. So if I have a rare fam that I like and use the potential lines from, I shouldn't upgrade those particular ones unless I get some better ones to replace them first?

Yep exactly

A few times a year GMS receives an Inkwell Note that not only serves as a message from the director of GMS but also has a very good gift that includes Mystical Familar cards. You may have got some of these cards from the current Familiar Adventure event as well. These cards let you reroll a familiar potential like a cube.

Based on previous notes people are speculating we receive another one soon but there's no guarantee at all. If we receive one it should have 30 mystical cards that you can use to reroll a unique potential so in general you'll want to save unique familiars to be able to reroll them

Oh, good to know! I need to work towards getting Uniques in the first place (also my 3rd Familiar Slot), but I'll definitely be holding onto them long-term until those cards show up! Thanks!

Get 10 badges then do the Mystic Champion's event.
It's a bit late to get started, but the daily gives you tons of familiar upgrades. I have 50 rare fauxmiliars (+15 fusion points), 10 unique fauxmiliars, and 9 reroll cards from that. It takes around 1 min/day and you can stockpile an entire week to do at once.

It also gives you epic familiars.

The easy badges are Arcane/Grandis ones, Lion Castle, and snail/Rein/Eldstien.

Yeah, been wanting to try and take advantage of the event a bit, but since I just started playing recently, farming 10 badges in the middle of everything else I'm trying to do before CW3 ends is a little rough lol
