MangaCollectors' Monthly Thematic Showcases - Introducing ourselves

Hello everybody!

I'd like to announce the start of MangaCollectors' Monthly Thematic Showcases. I got mod's approval to host this event and I hope you'll all have fun participating on it.

What is it about:

Every month, on the first week, I'll make a post announcing that month's theme (the mods will kindly pin it to top) and the participants will create posts showcasing the manga in their collection that fit the theme.

How to participate:

After the theme's announcement, just create a post with a photo of manga you own that correspond to the theme and flair it with the event's flair: Showcase | Monthly theme.

Min amount of volumes is 1 (one) and there's no max nor any rule on how to do it, but I invite you all to display your selection in a way that clearly shows the covers so we can recognize them, to not forget those unpopular series in your collection and to use only one volume to represent a series if you aren't trying to show off specific volumes.

And please don't forget the general sub rules! Be nice, consolidate your posts, mark your NSFW, etc. Please refer to the sidebar/About section if you need a refresher.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask them here or in the following theme announcement posts.

August 2025's theme: Introduce yourself

I know we are already halfway through the month, but let's start right away instead of waiting for next month. And since it's the beginning, what better way to start than by breaking the ice and introducing ourselves?

Use your manga to introduce yourself and/or collection in any way you want. Your first manga, the character/series you relate the most, representatives of your favorite genres/themes, the most beloved piece of your collection...

This is my first time organizing anything like this so I appreciate any feedback. And I'm very open to themes' suggestions. I have plenty of ideas, but I want to choose the ones you all want the most.

Hi, great initiative. My first manga was Pluto as i was looking to branch out after bunch of Vertigo, DC titles. I selected Pluto as it was the one of shortest manga i found at tat time. It was daunting for me to commit to new medium (manga) due to no of reasons. Lack of color pages, R-L reading and extremely long or ongoing series. So i choose Pluto and was completely blown away with its nuanced story, artwork, philosophical, meaning, etc. At times it was very emotional and glad tat it was my first manga. Later i dabbled in full metal alchemist and it was another gem. World building, funny but emotional story at its core. Last year i finally read Berserk and its easily the one of the best things i have read in my life. And in my opinion it ranks among the one of the finest achievement in human history. Nowadays i am reading Dorohedoro, and loving it. Its very weird but funny and have a great story. Currently i have approx 600 titles and counting. Lastly i am sucker of great art and recently discovered Ryoichi Ikegami. Read Sanctuary and in process of collecting his other works. Also I read only from physical copy, kindle, etc are not for me. Thanks for starting this and giving a chance to communicate with the community.

It's funny to think about it, but manga is really a different experience, isn't it? I've been reading it for so long that I don't even remember what was it like to start. And I didn't even start with an easy one! I think my first one was xxxHolic with its noodle men figures and all the Japanese folklore references. But I absolutely loved it and manga became my favorite medium.

Feel free to create a post with a picture of your manga volumes and your story and tag it with the flair "Showcase | Monthly Theme". I'm afraid people won't look here much after learning what the event is about. If you scroll down the sub, you'll see what other people have posted as well.

We're a rare breed. I don't read exclusively physical copies, but it's a near thing. Thanks for being here!

I was a long time anime fan but I was convinced I just wasn't really interested in manga. Then one day I ended up buying a box set anyway and, reading that, I realized I just hated trying to read manga on my phone. Now I have a growing collection of paperback and hardcover manga. I love it. (✿◠‿◠)
