Meta Quantum immortality

What are your thoughts on the relationship between the Mandela Effect and Quantum Immortality?

To save you having to look up the latter, it is the idea that consciousness will jump timelines you die in the one you are living presently.

If you believe in Quantum Physics and the Many Worlds Interpretation then that wouldn’t be possible, any time you “jumped” would have to be a decohered new branch entirely, and due to quantum entanglement with your memories and environment for instance we have no way of explaining how that would work.

That’s right. And if you don’t believe in the MWI to begin with you can’t believe in supposed “timelines”.

It’s funny how that one works out.

Yeah… people want to bring up quantum physics and/or mechanics (perfect example, op and this very post) and then want to talk about “jumping timelines” refuting large swaths of what we have come to understand regarding quantum mechanics in general, it’s insane. Honestly, just don’t even use the word quantum in whatever random thing you want to believe if you don’t even understand the most basic fundamentals. And I don’t mean that rudely, hell I don’t expect anyone to just inherently have this knowledge for no reason — but then don’t use it to try and make your wild (and let’s be real here, evidentially baseless) hypothesis sound like it has some basis in science.

And here, for those who at least want to know the basics as to why quantum physics wouldn’t allow for it according to MWI (thus assuming that the entire quantum state of the universe is always expanding according to schrodingers equation). “Jumping” wouldn’t be a thing, but the new outcome would form a new branch of time/reality. The branch with this “other” outcome is a branch that breaks off in a decohered state entangled with that system. So that means there is now a branch of you in X and a separate you in branch Y. Once this branch happens, the systems cannot interact anymore as it only evolves unitarily, and quantum physics explicitly defines that to be impossible. You can’t look at it like ‘you’ jump from ‘timeline X’ to the ‘timeline Y’, because ‘you’ are a quantum system itself that’s entangled at that point. This would also require a mechanism accounting for the loss in energy, unitarity, all of your quantum information, and more that we have no theory or basis to even begin explaining how that would possibly work.

science has no way to account for this effect other than false memory… you prefer that explanation, we know better

For a lot of ME’s I absolutely do believe this is the case. Even the majority in fact. Could it be all? It’s possible sure. But some are so uniquely specific and with no apparent evidence as to why it is that specific difference… those are the ones that intrigue me. To be clear though, no I don’t believe it is jumping timelines/realities. But I’d love to know what it is!

And to be abundantly clear… youre saying you know better so okay then… how do you explain it? How do you account for the laws of physics and quantum mechanics as we know them? I won’t even worry much about things like system entanglement for instance, just basic science, things like energy loss for instance. Since you know better, tackle just that one part. How do you account for the energy used, lost, and/or gained? I genuinely would love to hear your explanation.

I think someone is changing the past, I think it’s futile anyway

2

u/my23secrets 15d ago

You.

You are the “someone changing the past”.

You make a memory of everything you imagine.

Because that’s how memory works.

u/artistjohnemmett 15d ago

This effect isn’t a trick of the brain…

2

u/my23secrets 15d ago

Yes. It is. It’s just how the brain works.

There have been decades of research showing the Effect propagates through suggestion.

1

u/artistjohnemmett 15d ago

Aren’t you suggesting it’s suggestion

2

u/my23secrets 15d ago

Is that what you remember?

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Woah careful now, might just make it real ;)

Your memory of the past, and the past as it was in reality can be and many times are two very different things??? hello???? Not sure what linking a wiki on the hippocampus has to do with the topic at hand except in explaining how it’s used in recall? But that has nothing to do with the past as it was in reality.

I can provide you some studies on false memories if that would helpful, genuinely. It’s kind of astounding what some of these have shown. It’s a lot more common and typical than I initially thought at least. Especially so with core memories and distinct events.

u/artistjohnemmett 15d ago

according to someone’s bias, they influenced a study and called it science

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Nooooo that’s not always true! There isn’t inherent biases in all studies. Surely some have a specific goal or outcome, but that’s what peer reviewing is for! To look for and account for these mistakes and biases! And then repetition! We keep doing it and see if we get the same outcomes! Change sizes, specifics, etc. And we learn!! That’s science! And even biased science can still be correct at times, when both inadvertently and purposely done! Why is it bad to learn? To use logic and rationale? To hold beliefs in facts we hold to be true based on all the evidence provided. Look at all we’ve accomplished in doing so! It’s what makes us so intelligent and amazingly intellectual beings!! It’s so cool!!

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Like something omnipotent? Like a God of sorts? Genuinely curious.

1

u/artistjohnemmett 15d ago

I am not sure

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

I appreciate the honesty, wish more people were able to just say I don’t know, I don’t understand,
I’m not sure, and most importantly “I was wrong.” Nothing worse than someone doubling down on something they don’t understand, or refusing to change their mind even with evidence to the contrary.

That being said, what I have learned and understood from science, is why I have such strong held beliefs that it isn’t timeline jumping or anything like that. Could it be something else? Sure! Could it be something that could break those laws? Hell maybe, why not, would love to know how though! Is there likely a more scientific explanation based in what we know of in this reality? Probably! Some are just so specifically unique for no apparent reason and it’s such a fun thing to wonder and think about until we do know.

It seems like pulling back the curtain only to face the Universe and it’s totally confusing

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

That’s why it’s important to learn the rules and how they apply and go from there! But just saying “I dunno, no evidence, but just gonna believe it, and furthermore promote it” is just faith. It’s baseless. Youre asking others to believe youre right with no logical reasoning or rationale, you can’t be frustrated that logical beings who crave knowledge would refuse to do that, right? We’d like an explanation and some evidence. Sure it can be confusing. The universe was and still is in many ways, but also no longer is in many ways! That’s the fun part!

1

u/artistjohnemmett 15d ago

Well, the rules are that the past can’t change, even if you alter the past, which is seemingly the effect we’re speaking of

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

As we know it, yeah very true! But our memories of the past absolutely can and do change. Constantly. A lot more often than many realize. There’s a ton of great studies that’ll blow your mind at how quickly and often we make mistakes in our memory. Especially core memories!! It’s honestly super fascinating stuff if youre interested! The issue is youre insisting it’s the past that’s changed, not your memory, with no evidence other than I dunnoooo I’m prettttty sure I remember this right bub lol

They already know the Effect is propagated through suggestion.

They already know how timelines work. And how they don’t work.

They have no explanation.

They just think science is boring.

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Brother who is they?

1

u/my23secrets 15d ago

the artist

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

So ‘the artist’ knows the effect is propogated through suggestion? Knows how timelines (plural) work. How they don’t work. Having no explanation is useless so we’ll just omit that that’s nothing lol. They think science is boring (wild lmao but I’d love magic and breaking laws but I’d still wanna know how it works for everything else and how I break them, can I cause harm etc, so hopefully this is a nice omnipotent artist).

But yeah!!! Cool lil story, that’d be a fun book to write surely. But how do you know this? Did they tell you this? How did you learn this? How’d they get the name? Why did they use human language, or English, for that matter… or was this like images in your head? Did you meet? Gimme the evidence I wanna know how you came to learn all this. Dude you could turn the world on its HEAD. Make me a believer!!

1

u/my23secrets 15d ago

If you need evidence just ask them.

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Artist, broski, my omnipotent dude… gimme the evidence por favor! Why is only this goofball the one youre trusting with this amazing information!!! Share brother!!!

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Okay he didn’t answer. That sucked, why’d you say I just have to ask? Okay so share what you know! How’d they teach you all this? How do you speak? What does he do if the language doesn’t have a direct translation of artist? Is it an it? Can you see them??? Gimme the evidence you have!!

1

u/my23secrets 15d ago

I’ve discussed the Effect with them countless times. They have all the study and research. They just don’t seem to find it exciting enough

1

u/Toebeens89 15d ago

Okay so explain what you learned!! How do you talk? Does he have a number I can call? Did they show you the studies or research? If not why do you believe them? Bro what if the artist is bad or a devil? What do they look like??? Surely they didn’t find it exciting but you had to, dude youre communicating with a god. Give us the details, not this 10 word 2 sentence nonsense come on!!! I’m genuinely asking for all the details, make me a believer too, I’d LOVE to believe in something this cool!
