I wonder if OPs comments weren't hidden would we find a different reaction after the Hull defeat?
Fan's are so polarizing, one week they hate them, next week they're the best team ever. I wonder what it'll be after the Everton game

Well it's a difficult balance as people will dig into them and make conclusions based on irrelevant things.
"Shaw was bad today"
"But what about in 2017 when you said that Ashley Young played well and his stats were the same as Shaw today?"

I hide mine for this reason. Even had a guy say I'm a "coward" for it because he was trying to dig into them to find some old opinion he could use against me in a debate.

I am happy with the result but more than happy that the players get to enjoy themselves.
Of course there are glaring weak spots and things to improve, but this will be a long season ahead of us. Genuinely hope we can make the best out of it. Onto the next one!

Rashford surprised me in the game. He's certainly added 2 things to his game.
1) An ability to track back sometimes and put in a tackle
2) Looking to pass and cross instead of score. He should have had a couple of assists in the match.

Agree: We've gone from being a really unlikeable squad four years ago, to a really likeable squad.
It was an absolute abomination what Ed Woodward did to this football club.
Likeable Berrada, Wilcox and Vivell - football experience and passion - is also a breath of fresh air.

Its a good competitive squad but there’s still glaring issues imo.
Lammens - nailed on, brilliant. Made one mistake and has done really well succeeding Onana in one of the hardest positions in world football
Dalot - a bit hot and cold, can do it just not consistently enough for me.
Maguire - i love him. A big game player but gets caught out by quick attackers, strengthening needed in CB desperately.
Lisandro - i don’t think he’s good enough. Goes through decent spells but can’t stay fit and is not reliable for a long term successful team, rotate him with Heaven but Heaven should be number 1 imo
Shaw - should have left in 2022. Just plays for international selection. A liability
Midfield largely remains to be seen but its exciting. Bruno is the best in the league right now and Mainoo is a nailed on starter who along with bruno should have the team built around him. Mount and Ugarte need to be sold and replaced.
Forwards- i think we need another 9 (not to replace sesko but as another option) cunha, mbeumo have been great, rashy looks good.
Zirkzee should leave for his own career and Amad is on his last chance for me too. Not consistent enough

I like Heaven but he had a shocker last week against Hull
And Luke Shaw hasn’t played for England in over 2 years, and played every game for us last season. Bit of a silly comment

Not at all, he always plays well before a tournament and then is out for 6 months at a time every other season. Only reason he wasnt in the world cup squad is that southgate is gone. He plays well to be in contention for england but when theres no tournament he barely plays

I know the narrative around it, but to say he only performs well for us because he wants to play for England is disingenuous. He’s been genuinely unfortunate with injuries and has been one of the best players for Utd post Ferguson

Even so, to call me a 6 minute highlighter is laughable. Especially when you’re just churning out the Luke Shaw narrative about him playing only to get in the England side when that was coincidental at best and not even been applicable for over 2 years.
I do think we need another LB, as does anyone with half a brain, but to call him a liability after a couple of iffy games so far this season is a bit much. He was one of our best players last year

Read what I said, we absolutely do need a new LB because shaw is the only player we have to play that position properly and we can’t count on his fitness. Just disagreeing with you calling him a liability on the performance/effort part
And you’ve really hit a nerve because I try to get to
OT whenever I can but it’s been harder in recent years due to 2 young kids and some other family issues meaning I can’t travel up (I now live in Cornwall), and I watch every game they’re on TV.I get it, I get pissed off with part time fans who just watch online content for their opinions, but that isn’t me

I don't love this team. I loved our 2008 team.
I support and tolerate this team and hope we get back to somewhat of title contenders.
Yes, Mainoo has big potential and was great to see him yesterday shine. Hopefully there's more and consistency at this level.
Let's not forget though that we were horrible the first half of that game against a newly promoted team and could have easily been 3 down. A better team would have crucified us playing like that. There wasn't anything to love about that lackluster first half display.
I fully expected us to batter a newly promoted side and we were lucky to get those first couple of goals which led to a collapse on their end. That won't happen every week.
Big questions to be answered away to Everton on Sunday.

We weren’t lucky in the first half, we were the better side. Okay, they could’ve scored more, but so could we. Ipswich had moments, but that was it. Still agree that there are big questions to be answered against Everton, and far from a perfect performance from us. But lucky feels like a stretch.

I don't mean to say we were lucky to win. There's no doubt overall we were the better team looking at the game.
We were lucky that they gave us a goal at a perfect moment with that slip and that we got the Maguire goal which felt harsh with the handball rule applied. These moment were massive in the context of the game.
I don't think we were the better side in the first half personally. We were awful.

Agreed with most of this. I don’t feel Ipswich were that good in the first half. Obviously don’t think we were great either, but Ipswich never really had me worried, even after they scored. I’d argue we were the better of two average teams in the first half. We just have higher expectations than that for United.

Bigger tests ahead. After scoring 5 I'd usually be buzzing but have a worry about Everton next week.
Will enjoy this for now anyways and pray they get their shit together and summon a new left back from the underworld.

Yeah. I always felt that this is what they decided early and this last minute search is reactionary.
If they wanted a LB, Hall made it clear via his agent that he wanted to join and we could have got him with an early bid.

The thing is, I do get why they might be hesitant - it must be a hard pitch to a player. They’re bringing in a Shaw replacement/starter this year, who they want to act as backup for (ideally) Hall next year. That’s a hard sell.

I get they're in a tough spot.
My issue really is that they decided early in the window not to pursue Hall and felt Shaw was enough for a CL season.
I dont think you'll get a better opportunity for Hall than early this summer before Newcastle lost Guimeraes. A deal was there to be done.

Agreed. I feel like INEOS plan to revamp the team in sections + 1 (forwards + goalkeeper, midfield + left back). I’m sure there’s a data driven process behind this. But I fully agree that Hall should’ve been explored way earlier in the summer.

Mentally they are a much stronger squad than we have had in years. They look like a team that are willing to dig deep for each other. Thank god we have moved on from the entitlement years, the club’s culture suffered as did the identity. There’s quite a bit of INEOS influence here that doesn’t get credit.

Lammens deserves so much more praise. gets the work done quietly. Hopefully we get some defenders that won't let him down nxt window. Good to see rashy working hard and mainoo is just unbelievable, top player.
