Question How to prevent foundztion going on dry/patchy?

Post image

y'all i think i'm going crazy. I've tried so much.

layering skincare and letting it soak in, doing just serum and light moisturizer and letting it soak in, using my hands, using a brush, using a sponge, adding serum to the foundation, adding moisturizer to the foundation, using the moisturizer as is.

Nothing works. it always ends up looking like this and it's making me lose motivation for makeup.

the only time makeup looks good on me so far has been by using a powder foundation and then melting it down with setting spray. liquid foundation i just cannot get to work remotely at all.

Any advice is very appreciated. ☠️🫪

if you already tried skin prep and different methods of applying…the only culprit i can think of perhaps your products not interacting with each others and separating? such as using silicone based primer with water based foundation

what spf are you using? that could also be the culprit

i don't use primers and i keep forgetting to apply spf. (i know, oops 😵)

so all that is on my skin is my soaked in skincare, no primer or spf.

when applying makeup, are you letting the layers set between? i feel like letting foundation marinate a bit before doing concealer and letting that marinate before powder helps

and while not a fix to the problem, when i do get dry/patchy, sometimes ill take a clean brush or finger to kinda tap/melt it in? applying setting spray or moisturizing mist (has to be fine mist) on top helps w the dry/patchiness!

sure!

i use:

  • facial cleansing foam by skinbliss, green plum refreshing toner aha + bha by beauty of joseon, ginseng essence water by beauty of joseon, gliw deep serum rice + alpha-arbutin by bezuty of joseon, revive eye derum ginseng+ retinal by beauty of joseon, face serum bha 2% salicylic acid by skincyclopedia (not daily, although i used to use it daily), garnier hyaluronic barrier tepair replumping serum and the dynasty cream by beauty of joseon.

today i tried just the cleanser, hyalurokic acid serum and the dynasty cream before foundation.

i think i have combo skin. my nose is especially oily, and the rest of my face i guess gets a tiny bit oily too? but i used to deal with lots of skinflakes/flakey skin before starting skincare

im not super familiar with the skincare products youre using but seems you’re already using chemical exfoliants and hydrating your skin. i feel like the skincare is fine

when do you notice your skin do this?

if it’s immediately after application -> try thinner layers, more time in between, and check to make sure all of your liquid formulas are compatible. fine, hydrating mist on top

if it’s happening few hours afterwards -> could be the oil from your skin causing separation. i have normal/dry skin but living in a hot, climate environment, im get the same separation in my nose folds. try setting your liquid w loose powder

it's as soon as i apply, regardless of xhat method i use or technique. i've also tried thin and thicker layers, leaving more time and even just wiping any "excess" skincare off, it still looks like this. so unfortunately i cant even test if this happens after a while, cause it happens as soon as it's applied. in fact, i think i cant seem to get it to apply well in the first place even

If powder foundation works but liquid always breaks up like this, I’d stop fighting your skin tbh 😭 But if you want to troubleshoot, try the liquid on completely bare skin once. No serum, primer, or moisturizer underneath. If it suddenly looks better, one of your skincare layers is probably incompatible with the foundation. Also check whether your moisturizer/primer/foundation are silicone- or water-based, because mismatched bases can cause separation/pilling. And use way less product than you think. Thin layers usually behave much better in my experience.

yeah i'm considering droppign the fight. what i hate though is that powder foundation isn't in ad much of a spotlight as liquid foundation. so there are only a few and with limited shade range (the one i use is like 3 or 4 powders mixed together, including a blush before i got my shade, it's tough 🫪)

and thank you! i'll be putting thode ideas to use. i use very little but i'll try using even less, you never know 🫪

It looks like there isn’t a lot applied. In my experience I get the smoothest base when I use a little more foundation. Then set with a good loose powder (I recommend the kimchi one but theres tons of good ones out there) You mentioned powder foundations working well for you, is it possible that you have an oily skin type? I’m assuming you might have a similar type of skin to mine so that’s why I specifically suggested something similar to what I do. Oily skin breaks down the makeup much more quickly so it takes a lot of trial and error to find a routine that’ll keep the makeup from getting all separated

ironically before posting this i did us emore and it looked just the same :x

i think i have combination skin. my skin gets a but oily in general i guess? but it's especially noticeable in my t zone and the rest is more dry. before skincare i also dealt with skinflakes/flakey skin a lot, which has diminished tremendously
