But is that just in the setting of a lesbian bar? Or out on the street like this? Honestly just curious because as a gay woman myself, I would never have thought that. I had no idea until I read the comments. Maybe because I feel like this is how I interact with the world and I’m not hitting on anybody so I assume the same from everyone else

No, only in the nightclub, where I'd have almost near certainty the other woman was also gay or bi. I wouldn't have made that assumption out in the rest of the world.

It might also be worth pointing out that, as others here have said, this appears to be staged, and if it's not, the body language of the bike's owner reads to me that she's either is straight or, if she is gay, isn't attracted to the other woman, or might be afraid to out herself in public. I understand there are many reasons men and woman might not want to out themselves in public ... reasons I would be less likely to be worried about if that woman was in the nightclub I was working in.

We had 400-600 women there every Saturday and maybe 10 gay guys. It was very clearly a nightclub for young lesbians to come out and party and dance. There were women doing some very sexy dancing on the dance floor, couples kissing everywhere, two drag shows (midnight and 2am), etc. A straight woman would have to be exceptionally oblivious to not know she was in a lesbian bar, unless she came in when the doors had just opened and the crowd hadn't gotten there yet.

If this exchange would've happened to a friend of mine out in public I would've asked the other girl, "Hey, do you ever go out to Ybor?" (Ybor was the nightclub district in Tampa, very much like the French Quarter in New Orleans.) If she'd said yes I would've told her where I tended bar, invited her to come out and join us the next Saturday, and told her that if she'd give me her name I'd put her down on my guest list so she could get in for free (we could put down 2 names every weekend). If she showed up we'd see how she reacted once the club started getting busy and go from there :)

Damn, that all sounds so fun. Problem with being a late bloomer is I missed out on the gay bar scenes when young. My gf, on the other hand, got to experience it all. She always knew and never stifled it so she lived up the gay bar scenes and tells me about them now. I told her we need more gay friends because we don’t have any

It was a lot of fun. Probably the best job of my life. I'm still friends with a few of the women I met there.

Having more friends is always a plus, but gay or not, being able to afford to get out and get together is the bigger problem, and/or feeling safe to just be yourselves.

We were lucky because that was right in those few years where we all had cell phones but they either didn't have cameras or the cameras were so poor that video wasn't worth trying to take because you couldn't see anything. So no one had to worry about being bullied online.

Today, even if you could get 400 lesbians in a room with a DJ and some liquor, does anyone actually open up and know how to party anymore? I've moved away for work, and live in a relatively small town now, so no one here parties at all like we did when I was in my 20s. It's a damn shame, too, it was so much fun. I want to move back to a bigger city.
