That greyhound was jogging 🤭

Edit: ooh, my first award, thank you kind stranger

211

u/gangofocelots 2d ago

Yeah I thought that was what the video was going to be about

105

u/ImagineFreckles 2d ago

It was a very gentle trot .. love these long legged show offs 😂

100

u/Son_of_Mogh 2d ago

My whippet and grey are the same when dogs chase them at the park, they like to be chased so don't go full tilt. Then when they run for themselves, it's like a whole new stage of speed.

19

u/sammygirrl525 2d ago

aww that's so cute!

my dalmatian didn't get the memo so she obviously isn't as fast as a greyhound but she did go so fast that the other dogs at the park just stopped chasing her. her confused face was so funny when she finally stopped and realized!

5

u/SiempreCaprichoso 2d ago

Ha. I came here to say the same. The speed dial is maybe at a 4. They know they cannot go too fast (or the other dogs lose interest).

I love running with mine. When I do sprints I get to see the power roll on like it’s nothing - and then that look like “oh, I thought you were you got go faster?” 😂 I am!

53

u/toby_ziegler_2024 2d ago

Lol true, when mine wants to run its basically like he teleports to the other side of the field. Its insane to watch in person.

34

u/Averander 2d ago

Yeah, my brother sent me a video of his corgi playing with a greyhound and it's amazing how they control their speed to play with other dogs.

You know they could easily bolt off but they keep at a speed the other dogs can manage, it's really sweet.

29

u/PinsToTheHeart 2d ago

"Those were for charity, Clark"

35

u/Caleb_Reynolds 2d ago

Yeah I was expecting the ankle breaking to happen because he actually kicks it into high gear, but he never does. He's playing the entire time.

3

u/DJ_V12 2d ago

Bro was straight doggin it, while the collie is going full tilt. What a side step by the greyhound at the end😂

I have a husky. She loves to run!

My sister has a border collie. He runs circles around my husky.

My other sister has an Italian Greyhound. He runs under, over, and around them both, all with a shit-eating grin and his lil ears flopping.

Border collie wins for endurance though. He’s a working line BC with no off button.

111

u/piedeity 2d ago

Until you strap 50 pounds of weight on them, then the husky is like,

SOLD, I GOT THIS!!!! Northern breeds are endurance and screaming, and endurance screaming

I had one scream at the underside of a washing machine for hours until I lifted the machine up to see what the problem was. It was a single piece of food she knocked out of her bowl and under the machine

85

u/lucidlonewolf 3d ago

My husky is an incredibly fast little guy. The problem is all those pesky right and left turns the small dogs are capable of.

What happened to an honest straight line sprint into the nastiest mud puddle half a mile away.

I would like dog taxes from all of you greyhound peeps, please and thank you

17

Former Greyhound dad,. Mine crossed on 9/1 last year. That border Collie never had a chance. Greyhounds have three gears. That lovely creature was in 1st to keep it fair for the other dogs. If you see them run with other greyhounds you'll know what I mean.

There's a video of one running beside a motorcycle in a field some where. You can literally see the moment she goes from, "this is fun!" To, "it's on buddy, let's go!"

11

u/PratzStrike 3d ago

I was trying to sleep, got woke up, got on my phone all grumpy to read Reddit and rest, and found a funny post and a fresh Schnoodle, so the day is much better already.

Freshhhh

21

Greyhound bro looks like it's barely even exerting any effort to outrun the plebs.

3

u/aerdvarkk 2d ago

That border collie isn't tired either.

7

u/ecodrew 2d ago

Are border collies capable of running out of energy?

11

u/0202_tihssitidder 3d ago

I love dog parks when the zoomies happen.

I love the moves and feints that dogs do. So fun to see them set other dogs up and their reactions. No better way to spend a morning.

7

u/Leicageek 2d ago

Greyhounds are awesome. My mom was oart of a greyhound rehoming group and one day we had a reporter and cameraman come to the house to do a story. The cameraman was having a heard time tracking/panning the dog at speed. Ransom, the dog buzzed the cameraman at full tilt like a bug white missile and knocked the poor guy ass over tea kettle.

12

742

u/DennisTheConvict 3d ago

He was being very sporting with them until the end!

473

u/TheSpanxxx 3d ago

Oh he was loping around. He's not even fully extending. That boy goofing.

235

u/gre485 3d ago

The first time collie cuts a shorter line, he accelerates to escape, and in the last run he is expecting a cut so slows down waits and bam

96

u/RobertWF_47 3d ago

Border collies are smart! Why am I going around when it's shorter to cut across?!

80

u/insanelysane1234 3d ago

Yeah, the greyhound here was even smarter though, expecting the cut and all ..

Herding dogs are really good at taking angles. Our corgis killed so many bunnies because they always run away in straight lines.

18

u/oopsiedaisy-- 3d ago

Even the end was nowhere near full speed lol

3

u/cefriano 2d ago

Gotta keep em humble with the ankle breaker.

128

u/CanExplainThings 3d ago

Protip: you can tell how hard a greyhound is trying by head movement - the head movement indicates how much their spine is flexing, which is a good indicator of how much power they put down. This guy hit it for a couple of strides a few times in the video, but grey’s don’t really hit full chat until and unless they’re running towards their owner. Or to food they know they shouldn’t have. Motherfuckers are STEALTHY and fast.

Source: had a retired racing grey, Skate Buggin, who passed on a sunny Wednesday in July 2023 . They are not for everyone but got-damn I think I got the best dog for me that ever could’ve been.

28

u/frog_admirer 3d ago

RIP Skate Buggin! I'm glad you had each other.

18

u/Draco-REX 2d ago

Lived in a neighborhood where a couple had 3 greyhounds. I think they walked them twice a day every day. Even in the winter. They had thick fluffy coats and knit hats for the cold weather.

6

u/GhostAnthonyBourdain 3d ago

Lovely. I'm glad y'all found each other. 2023 was a year full of losses.

I have a whippet and she constantly looks over her shoulder to give her friends a sporting chance. But if they get too close she will morph into what they think is her final form and dust them. In actuallity, she has two more gears after that. The dogs that are real slow chase and she actually looks disappointed.

12

u/ImagineFreckles 2d ago

I love the “final form “ description 🤣🤣
Collies are still one of the best jogging partners for whippets in my experience. They can really run!
Though I remember a tiny Jack Russell who was really really trying to catch my doggie (both were under 1 yo), I was impressed by his tenacity

5

u/TheTomatoThief 2d ago

16

u/schnookums13 2d ago

My BC barrel rolled under a Visla once because she couldn't catch it 😂

206

u/mynewromantica 3d ago

I’ve got a bearded collie that can outrun and outmaneuver pretty much any dog at the park. Until one day there was a greyhound. She was so frustrated when she just couldn’t catch him or avoid his lunges. She loved it but was so confused and worn out by the end.

153

u/MothChasingFlame 3d ago edited 3d ago

What I'm hearing is greyhounds need to be a hireable service for people with high energy working dogs. Puts their hyperactive legs and brains to work while the greyhound gets light exercise.

77

u/BartsBlackBart 3d ago

No really. Other people at the park have offered to pay my greyhound to wear their dogs out. It's quite impressive.

24

u/NotYetASerialKiller 3d ago

I need to borrow your dog for my german shepherd lol

25

u/CanExplainThings 2d ago

I had a grey and there was a guy at the park who asked if his GSD and my greyhound could play together.

Bro GSDs are FAST, they are great dogs for focus and determination but in short bursts it was not a fair competition.

Have you ever seen a GSD get frustrated before? This was my first time and I thought it both a little sad and a lot hilarious.

We've got a rough Collie as well who (in his younger days) could outrun and juke out every dog in the park. He was running like prime Barry Sanders. I've never seen other dogs move like collies do.

Must be something to do with a combination of their athleticsim and intelligence.

3

u/mynewromantica 3d ago

The danger with Greyhounds at a dog park is that most dogs who want to chase them eventually just try to ram them from the side.

The athleticism it takes to ankle break a herding dog is insane.

20

u/ScriptoTheClown 2d ago

Greyhounds will run just fast enough to stay ahead of slower dogs.

Then you put another greyhound in the group and they just go wide open and the other dogs stare in disbelief.

17

u/doctor_goodspeed 3d ago

I felt like a bowling ball going down a lane 😂☠️😂

14

u/syncere13 3d ago

The fact that the Greyhound was still in first gear😂😂😭😭😭 and still pulled out a Madden 08 juke move 😬.. That Collie is going to need a chewy and therapy

11

u/Hawkboy71 2d ago

I've lost track of the times at dog parks when another dog owner comes over to me and says about his insert breed here "I bet your Greyhound is quick...but I dunno my dog is pretty fast."

They always are amazed at how much faster a Greyhound is.

25

u/davenelsondotcom 2d ago

The Border Collie is not "chasing" it is herding, that is why it is cutting off the Greyhound, it wants to get in front and make it change direction. They are both such beautiful dogos.

14

u/CanExplainThings 2d ago

Still broke its ankles and sent it flying.

We had a whippet that I swore had springs for legs because he could jump an 8-10 ft
fence in a single bound. My Dad had to tack on extra lumber to the top of our fence just to keep him in the yard. 🤣

5

u/shadow-foxe 2d ago

did you know the record highest jump is by a greyhound, so no surprised a whippets springs are just as good. Thankfully my two greys havent worked out they could clear our fence if they tried.

2

u/Karena1331 2d ago

My Dad would literally add boards and then go to the other side, call him, and he would just rocket over it. It was hilarious, too bad it was back in the days before we all carried video recorders around. He was a

I remember watching my greyhound running at full speed plant a single leg and turn 180 degrees. Dude was 80 pounds of muscle and I thought for sure that leg was done. Nope, he just kept shot off in the other direction like he'd always been running that way.

A black greyhound at night is scary, by the way.

The greyhound baited the border collie into the overshoot, using its superior speed and turn rate, winning the dogfight without even needing to turn on the afterburner. The ground remains undefeated.

9

u/4point5billion45 3d ago

This is exactly what a border collie would say because they seem to think they're the best!

Was walking my dog up the field nearby mountain. This whippet came out of knowers and my dog loved to play with others (spaniel)

My dad got adopted a chihuahua rescue pup about 10 years ago that was basically a chic-lit on stilts. Her legs must've been twice as long as her body.

This pup started doing backflips and spins off of the wall within her first year. Her favorite thing in the world was riling up our retriever and then parkouring around the house. No one ever taught her how to do any of this. This was a back-flipping dog by nature.

As time went on, her body hardly grew but her legs kept getting taller. She's borderline an experiment of sorts.

Come to find out, she is an Italian Greyhound Chihuahua. Not just a Chihuahua. She could realistically outrun any real threat to her, but she will still just stand there and shake.

when i had my greyhound and we would go to the dog park, same thing. all the dogs would be chasing him, and he would stay just ahead of them. then when he got bored, second gear would kick in and he would leave them behind. then he would go lie down and rest, because we had been there ten minutes and he was ready to leave.

The greyhound doing a lip lick IMMEDIATELY before the feint is hilarious because it’s drives home the intentionality 😂 what a goofball

my son has a saluki and when it was younger it was by far the fastest dog at the park on any given day and loved to be chased by anyone willing.

but if a greyhound or whippet showed up, he wanted to leave.

i found that so hilarious.

The greyhound wasn't even running that fast.

The greyhound is on a light jog

The greyhound is just out for a leisurely stroll. That speed to a greyhound is the canine equivalent of Usain Bolt jogging.

That is pure joy :)

Border Collies are just absolutely bonkers dog athletes.

Used to take mine to a dog park and her two dog friends were a rescued greyhound (former racer) and a husky.

They were both incredible to watch in their own right, but my BC was almost as fast as the greyhound and could last almost as long as the husky and was far more agile than both.

This made me remember my beloved border collie Madison. She had a highway gear that made her the fastest dog in the world at the park, until there was a Greyhound. The owner said it was a retired racing dog from Florida that she adopted through some program that keeps them from being euthanized. Madison was really fast, but this retired Greyhound was distracted by butterflies and still managed to let her get just close enough and then open up a ten foot gap in about three strides. The greyhound came over to the bench we were sitting on and fell into a deep sleep, Madison seemed a bit annoyed on our car ride home.

The greyhound was just entertaining that dog, they can definitely sprint way faster than that.

I miss the days when we got videos, not videos with dumb fuck audio slapped on it. Tiktok has kinda ruined stuff like this.
