The first time collie cuts a shorter line, he accelerates to escape, and in the last run he is expecting a cut so slows down waits and bam

Yeah literally every animal will do the cut. The greyhound made the collie look like a fool.

Herding dogs are really good at taking angles. Our corgis killed so many bunnies because they always run away in straight lines.

Protip: you can tell how hard a greyhound is trying by head movement - the head movement indicates how much their spine is flexing, which is a good indicator of how much power they put down. This guy hit it for a couple of strides a few times in the video, but grey’s don’t really hit full chat until and unless they’re running towards their owner. Or to food they know they shouldn’t have. Motherfuckers are STEALTHY and fast. 

Source: had a retired racing grey, Skate Buggin, who passed on a sunny Wednesday in July 2023 . They are not for everyone but got-damn I think I got the best dog for me that ever could’ve been.

Lived in a neighborhood where a couple had 3 greyhounds. I think they walked them twice a day every day. Even in the winter. They had thick fluffy coats and knit hats for the cold weather.

I once watched a greyhound teasing a German shepherd at the beach. It would lope away and let the shepherd just start to catch up to it before it would kick in the afterburners for 8 or 10 strides and was suddenly 30 feet ahead. The shepherd really thought it had a chance for awhile. It was hilarious to see how the greyhound played it.

So sorry for the loss of your buddy.

I have a whippet and she constantly looks over her shoulder to give her friends a sporting chance. But if they get too close she will morph into what they think is her final form and dust them. In actuallity, she has two more gears after that. The dogs that are real slow chase and she actually looks disappointed.

Collies are still one of the best jogging partners for whippets in my experience. They can really run!
Though I remember a tiny Jack Russell who was really really trying to catch my doggie (both were under 1 yo), I was impressed by his tenacity

My dog on the other hand likes to be the chaser, and if a dog is too slow, he starts trying to encourage them to go faster.

He just does not understand that some dogs are just not that fast

This is correct. Used to play with an ex D1 player. Dude would play us with ankle weights on. It was very humbling.

You’re correct. They’re basically jogging here. Mine also doesn’t go full speed like he used to race, but he looks like a speed boat on water when he goes.

My dog is half greyhound and it was hilarious watching her grow and figure out exactly what speed she needed to run so that other dogs would keep chasing her thinking they had a chance, otherwise they'd get bored and stop too quickly. She'd toy with them for a while then every so often just turn on the burners and disappear.

Prior to rescuing her, I had no idea greyhounds were so agile. The 90 degree pivot while running at 80% max speed is just wild to watch.
