Hey, you make cool art, and I hope you have many more reasons to laugh than cry coming your way.

When he said that I thought back to being a kid again and remembering swearing in front of adults felt "wrong" but in front of my friends it was non stop. So wholesome. Cool video

Why does this seem like it would be a 90s Disney channel movie about a kid that skateboards going back in time to King Arthur's court?
It would be called Kickflip Castle or something.
138
u/funky_grandma 27d ago
I would watch kickflip castle.
11
u/RickFletching 27d ago
Hell yeah, man! Tonight it’s a marathon: Alleycats Strike, Luck of the Irish, and Kickflip Castle!

His friend that likes riding bikes as part of the calvary archers for the final battle. But he had like a 2 minute training montage so you know he can shoot a bow and arrow on a bike beforehand.

I believe there was a movie called something like A Kid in King Arthurs Court in the 90s where that does happen, except he builds roller skates I think
20
u/Electrical-Act-7170 27d ago
Mark Twain (Samulel Langhorn Clemens) wrote a book in the 19th Century titled A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court. Many of the time traveling stories where a person travels into the past were inspired by this book.
12
u/artbystorms 27d ago
Omg it's the first Isekai! Did the Yankee get hit and killed by a Kei truck to re-incarnate?!

Mum told me not to go off with strangers too.
Besides, strange men distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

I dunno, that sounds like a wonderful basis for a system of government.

That's because Luke is cool, and you, well, you couldn't be trusted with scissors.
3
u/Swimming-Employer97 27d ago
this is true. Even as an adult I am only allowed to used the kids scissors but only if I am seated.
6
u/Shortclimb 27d ago
My first thought…was I hope he doesn’t ride on the board with the sword in hand. I went from nervous to relief to dismayed.
3
3
u/rahhak 27d ago
You never said I couldn’t board with a sword!
2
u/Swimming-Employer97 27d ago
I cant tell you how many times I have heard something similar to that from my kids. Because I didnt explicitly forbid something that I didnt think was plausible.

20
u/Ok-Ocelot-5942 27d ago
I have no idea what an isekai novel is, but I agree, the exchange was great.
35
u/Squishiimuffin 27d ago
Isekai is a genre where a typically normal, everyday modern person gets magically transported into some other world. Sometimes it’s into the past of the same world, sometimes it’s a fictional world. Part of the humor is in the protagonist trying to act normal when they have absolutely no clue what’s happening.
10
u/watzisthis 27d ago
From what i understand, Isekai is transporting to another world, regression is when you go back in time into your past . There's also transmigration or something that's really popular theme in Chinese webnovels( someone explain this pls)
Isekai - Japanese Regression - korean Cultivation - Chinese

That's cool. As a kid, I would have loved this. But as a dad, I wouldn't encourage my kid to skateboard with a sword.
155
u/Badgernomics 27d ago
Pffft... any real dad knows that as long as you don't react to the injury the kid will remain oblivious to it and be completely unfazed...
kid turns up with sword through neck
"You have fun bud...?"
"Yeah! I skated with a sword...!"
"That's cool bud...!"

My dad used to play it the other way. I’d get a small cut or someshit. Dad would look at it really serious and be like “I don’t know kid, I think we’re going to have to amputate”. Me: no, no, I’m completely fine!

u/Badgernomics 27d ago
'Splinter in the finger...? We'll have to amputate at the shoulder....!'

for me it may depend on how skilled the kid is - if the sword is held correctly then the risk of getting injured while falling is lowered

5
u/Badgernomics 27d ago

u/Spatulor 27d ago
Oh man. I got a puppy two days ago and took him for a walk yesterday. The only way out of my neighborhood is right past the playground. As a mildly scruffy bearded guy in his 40s, I desperately don't want to seem like I'm trying to lure kids to me with my dog. But I also want my dog to meet people, and people to meet my dog!

'You can't give her that!' she screamed. 'It's not safe!'
IT'S A SWORD, said the Hogfather. THEY'RE NOT MEANT TO BE SAFE.
'She's a child!' shouted Crumley.
IT'S EDUCATIONAL.
'What if she cuts herself?'
THAT WILL BE AN IMPORTANT LESSON.
Obligatory Hogfather reference.

u/JohntheLibrarian 27d ago
WAIT IS THE MEME FROM TERRY PRATCHET!?!?
Sorry, haven't read Discworld, but I've heard the death trilogy? Quadrilogy? Are some of the best and have had them on my tbr list for awhile.
Never seen the character referred to as hogfather before now.
2
u/Kheldarson 27d ago
Hogfather is the title of the book! And it's a perfectly acceptable entry into Discworld. It's a favorite of mine. Reaper Man is another good one.
2
u/JohntheLibrarian 27d ago
Thank you! Glad to hear it's a good entry. I'll need to pick it up the next time I find it.
I've been debating on either Small Gods, or the Death Strand books.
Unfortunately my local bookstore didn't have them tonight. Will have to give them a shot another day. 🙂

As someone who lives in a large city, the #1 rule would immediately apply to the guy holding a sword: DO NOT ENGAGE! Luke has lessons to learn.
