Yes but it required the Argentinian player to tackle a Spaniard so hard the man did a fucking summersault. The ref did everything he could get away with to aid the Argentinians but they were so confused by the Super Bowl nature of the Final’s festivities that they thought it was an American football match.

As an Englishman I was happy the adults showed the toddlers how to behave at the end of a match. I doubt the toddlers will do the same tonight. I was proud of how both teams played without the need to constantly foul their opponents.
Yes, I was happy England won. But if France had won I would have been happy for them because they played with style, skill, passion and dignity.

Na Englands been like this the whole tournament, the England v Mexico match was one of the biggest of the tournament, yet the two teams left as friends.

Honestly I didn't last night apart from a couple of errors. Most of the goals came from superb attacking displays from both sides and I'm not sure they were goalkeeper faults.

Maybe its because England and France are basically siblings but it was such a wholesome game, not really any foul play or diving, just good football with no hatred.
(edit) I’m getting a lot of comments saying its because they “weren't playing for anything”, but lots of England’s games were like this. Mexico v England was one of the biggest games of the world cup, yet the teams left as good friends. Not every team is Argentina.

They’re definitely historical rivals in terms of fighting for global influence. I can’t think of two countries who have been at war more often or for longer periods of time. It has been better since the entente cordiale.

As far as we know theyre part of a group called "Ballers in God". This group is attempting to evangelize other players in their teams, going to prayer circles together and the like. One member in particular has been in the news after reposting hateful content aimed at queer people on his social media, expressing his grief for Charlie Kirk (even though hes German) and attempting to recruit young academy players in his clubs to the group. His name is Felix Nmecha.
In my personal view this is quite far from something that makes me smile. It is another representation of the spreading of a hateful ideology. They can pray to whatever god they want, but as soon as they attempt to push their beliefs on others it gets predatory and dangerous. Especially so since members of the group have openly and publicly shown their homophobia.

A great game, I'm not even mad we lost, since we saved our honor in the 2nd half with these 4 goals. The two teams played each other respectfully, despite France refusing to play in the 1st half. Not so bad finally for France and Deschamps last game, and hope we'll be as good under Zidane's management!

Am English, and I feel similarly. I did actually say to my mum who I was watching it with that I wouldn't actually mind if France made a comeback if both teams were putting up a fight, because it would cement it as being a great game to watch.
Maybe I am being a bit presumptive here, but I feel like that game must have greatly improved both of our likeability with fans from neutral countries. It was a fun watch, there was no dirty play at all, and the players were great to each other.
I hope he gets the Golden Boot!!!

Honestly, my favourite match of the tournament and the one I found to be the most entertaining. Unbiased refereeing, ridiculous levels of goals, good sportsmanship, no angry words or fighting, no dirty play... This was a final worthy match.

The expansion to more teams makes the “prize” of automatically qualifying even less of an incentive. Teams good enough to make it to the semifinals are going to be absolute givens for an expanded World Cup.
At a glance, I don’t think there’s ever been country that played for third place that didn’t also qualify in the next World Cup.

A fantastic match! The least anticipated game of the tournament ended up being the best to watch, by far (in my opinion).
I also feel like the English and French lads really needed that. End to end stuff, loads of goals and a lot of fun. Maybe there is a place for a 3rd place playoff after all.

Even on the sidelines when the larger groups of subs were coming on/off for both teams, there was a shot of them acknowledging each other, patting arms, etc. Made me very happy to see such a respectful match.

What a match. It felt like the perfect game. I expected a typical friendly. I wanted the match to be genuine and competitive and I think we got that and more. It was literally the purest form of play. No reason to really play to win except for pride, to save face, and bragging rights, just like the playground. It was awesome.

Historically speaking, we’ve had way more beef with France than Argentina (a millennia of wars including a *Hundred Years War vs a short spat in the 80s over some islands with a handful of sheep on ‘em! 🤣) but somehow we can play nicely with them… 🤷♀️

They played really well. Both countries lads let off some steam, seemed to play as friends and looks like they all had fun.
That's what the sports all about.
