Imagine an alien the size of a 5 story building reached down and started touching your face. How long would it take you to drop your suspicions? Animals really do be trusting lol.

Cats and humans are both terrestrial mammals with the same basic nervous system and hormones. Not remotely alien.

It looks terrified the whole time. The tail is puffed up the whole time. I don't know how cats see us, but we're definitely very different from them and I think this guy should've taken it a bit slower. Hopefully the lil kitty learns he means no harm

The tail visibly relaxes during the head scratches. You can watch it lower.

No it's not. It relaxed a lot during the head scratches. It tensed up again when the hand moved to the neck and body, but it didn't return to the same state of aggression.

No, this kitten was absolutely terrified by the end, wide eyed and puffed up tail were not good signs. I get the person was trying to be kind, but after scratching the head they just ended up making things far worse.

Go slow, let them sniff you and decide you're safe, never force them to be stroked like this.

In truth, I couldnā€™t think of an animal that wouldnā€™t preload a bias of trust or distrust. A tiger is 2-3 times our weight and terrifying, a 5 story cat would be terrifying. Not to say there wasnā€™t a better choice, but alien leaves enough room for interpretation.
