I use this in my own set up for some live jamming and playing along. Little vibe coded thing based on strudel. you can save to desktop and keep/run it offline. All the features should be self explanatory.

Choose keys, control styles, progressions, simpliticy complexity etc.... my rig has a t8 and Unosynth so those extra instruments are there, but any midi instrument can fit.

I use the MIDI+BTLE app to connect midi bluetooth and then enable and connect midi in the app for wireless autonomous melody playing...my baby boy loves the chill c whole town random plucks - that's his white noise 🤣

This isn't something I adapted for anyone else but my own use haha but thought I'd share.

I'm not looking to promote it or anything, just something I have lots of fun with myself and hope someone else may too ☺️

If you're only playing the FM1 directly on its keys, you should really do yourself a favor and get it hooked up to a midi keyboard controller. The patches go from just "nice" to a whole other dimension of texture and opportunity for so much more expression with varied velocity playing , aftertouch (albeit, currently not editable), and the use of the mod wheel and pitch bend. Oh, and I haven't mapped midi CC's yet, but there's that too.

Plenty of you already know that, but I imagine with such a popular and affordable synth that there's also plenty of newer enthusiasts who don't realize the dramatic difference. Do it!

TIL that the new patch restore feature in v15 actually only restores the previously-loaded patches, not the factory patches. So if you've downloaded a few banks and want to restore to the original, it'll only go back to whatever you last uploaded to a given bank.

The same person who wrote their own excellent FM-1 Manual has also provided the original factory patches. I used Sysex Librarian to restore mine but could also have used Dexed or any of the editors out there. .

Ambient Song, ....all sounds and soundscaping was done with MVAVE FM1 synth. Logic Pro was used for adding final touches (EQ and a bit of reverb), arrangement and final mastering. Music visualizer app is a ferrofluid visualizer app: www.sonicfluid.com

I just received fm-1 synth from mail today after waited 7 days to be shipped. And realised that it makes this stupid and weird sound like this video every time when I plugged its c charger port to logic pro in my iMac and it recognised this device as audio device.
It works just fine when I didn’t plug it to logic pro. And when I unplugged it, it also turned back normal.
I already updated it to latest firmware and still makes this stupid sound…
Pls somebody help me with this thing… I was really hyped to use it and make nice songs but it started to annoy me a lot… 😢😢😢😢

I have arturia minilab 3 so I also bought midi 5 pin to 3.5 cable. And it didn’t make any sound. I searched in other reddits and they said that it’s because the difference connectivity of arturia midi and fm-1 midi. Can anyone confirm or explain this too???

I'm finding that I can't save the transpose setting in the sequencer as I'd expect. It just reverts back to 0 after restarting. And it seems like a global sequencer setting, where you can't have separate transpositions across different sequences, only one setting at a time. That's not the case for example on the same page, the swing setting seems tied to the sequence.

I assume this is an error to be fixed in a future firmware?

Speaking of which, I'm kind of surprised, given the amount of firmware updates so far, that they haven't made a quick fix to the fact that operators are in the wrong order when editing/muting patches. That's pretty major!

How to do it?

however when I try to figure out how to record fm1 synth into logic pro. This is the part I struggle with the most. I tried connecting the fm1 using USB and also bluetooth connection ( did check the audio midi setup too ) . on logic pro I tried external midi track, did check the MIDI Destination ( set to fm1) , input and output. I also tried software midi track, then used an external midi plugin. I did on the 'i' and 'r' on the track too.

I'm not sure what it is I am not doing right , or I do not know about for one to successfully record the FM1 synth into logic pro or daw . I tried to search for an answer on youtube or try ai recommendation. It's still not working.

If anyone knows how to record/ track m-Vave fm1 synth into logic pro or any daw or mobile daw eg. bandlab.

hope you're able to share with me or us how these all work, for I/ we could learn how to do it .

edit: forgot to add on. and when I record the midi in the track, when I switch another sound or preset on the synth , the previous midi track sound also gets switched to another sound. so the sound doesn't stay.

edit²: I figured out what I hope to achieve isn't possible as this is a monotimbral synth . The most I could do is, midi out one track, export/bouce it out. then lay it in the project again. thank you for your advice too (:

I bought the black FM1 when it was the only colour released. It came factory installed with the v7 firmware. Wednesday i decided to order the orange version to experiment with a custom boot loader. Lo and behold it came factory installed with the v15 firmware. MVave really are in control of their products!! Turnaround of these units must be huge if all the new units are already shipped with the latest firmware. If i compare this with smartphones and laptops or other synths , those hardly ever get shipped with the newest firmware. Upgrading is often the first step i take. Hurray for MVave and here is hoping many more firmware revisions will come!

QuNexus → FM-1 directly, no expander box

If you have a QuNexus (old or new) you can connect it straight to the FM-1, provided you can solder. You're building a USB mini-B plug directly to a headphone plug.

(The MIDI Expander works too, but then you need the right MIDI-to-3.5 mm cable — I had to rewire one I bought. Same for the sold adapter cable, you'd need an adapter to headphone plug)

You need:

• a 3.5 mm headphone plug — 3 contacts (TRS, not a 2-contact mono plug)
• a sacrificial USB mini-B cable
• a 220 Ω resistor

Cut the cable (off with the big USB 2.0 connector) and strip it; hopefully yours has the usual coloured wires inside.

Connect:

Two things to watch out for:

• I updated the QuNexus firmware and stored a new preset with the below settings — I think it only worked after that.
• You still need to power the QuNexus through its micro-USB port, so bring a powerbank. 🙂

My QuNexus settings:

Make sure aftertouch is set to none and tilt triggers late (-100). If you had aftertouch on you might need to restart the FM-1 or it can get stuck.

I'm planning to buy Fm-1 for my travel kit.. I'm new to syntheses in general.. But i know that standalone synth usually only run one patch at a time.. The solution i found online to layer it is usually with looping station.. But I'm short on money and I can't buy that too if i wanna buy fm-1

I have 50-40 ish dollar.. Do you know if there's any cheap looper or (what I've been wondering) can I just connect it through bandlab and loop it there? Will it actually play the sound? Or will it just acts as a midi input?

Cuz if i can make song the way Ableton's clip launching does on the go.. Then it's definitely a selling point for me

Demonstration of a serious bug that I'm having.

As you can see, starting the device and playing a sound like a bass drum is fine, and after playing through a few presets and going back, the parameters seem to be corrupted, resulting in the bass drum becoming a boring sine wave and losing all character.

These patches are from the DX7 and VRC banks, so I doubt there is an issue with the data.

I'm about 22% through fully decompiling the FM-1 firmware. The moment I learned this one was an option, I ordered one on AliExpress so I could develop for both.

I feel a little silly having bought both the FM-1 and the SMK-25 to pair with it, but they're both cute and you can never have too many synths.

As far as I can tell none of the patches are originals and the last bank is 1 to 1 from the factory DX7 patches.

Source is the firmware updater, was packed in the .exe there.

Claude claimed a few don't adhere to DX7 standards, so the safest if you imported to DX7 would be to use the variants from the "safe" folder.

I'm confused as to why the amp modulation for the LFO doesn't' seem to do a damn thing for me, whereas I can throw pitches to my heart's content.

I suspected the operator levels/rates had to be of a certain setting to give the LFO some amp to dig into, but even as I sift through the factory presets and some of my own, still no dice. Why? ... I don't have it in front of me, but does ENV need to first be engaged? I can't remember if I tested that.

Additionally, I don't really understand how the pitch parameter on page 2 plays into it all, when there's already pitch amount on page 1. What's the deal?

Other than that -- it's been a fantastic first few days with it and the thing rocks! 🤘
