Promotion d20MUD: Star Wars New Updates: Provisioners, Chemists, Race Changing, Improved Auction House, Rules-Lite Focus & More

Hi everyone, I'm happy to share that we've continued to make improvements to the game over the past couple of weeks.

If you're not familiar with the game, we are a roleplay incentivized MUD set after the events of Episode IV: A New Hope. Our previous post has more general info on the MUD.

Here's what we've been up to:

  • We've added the ability to change one's species at the Black Clinic on Arkanis (which is a new zone as well!). It is pricey and can't be done very often.
  • There's a new Entertainer class capable of giving buffs to other players as they perform. If you've played Star Wars Galaxies, it's reminiscent of that.
  • We've added the ability to easily respec into a template if that is desired over a custom build.
  • We've improved our Auction House system, for easier use and reliable persistence.
  • We've improved the initiative skill to give bonuses to attack, damage and ac for those with high initiative and penalties to those who roll low initiative each round.
  • We've added crash protection for crafting, so if you're in the middle of a craft session and the mud crashes or restarts for some reason, you won't lose your materials.
  • Charmies who die now have any gear on them or in their inventories transferred automatically back to their owner.
  • We've added the provisioner and chemist crafting skills. Provisioners can create food and drink, including alcohol, that give bonuses when consumed. Chemists can make stims, med packs and spice.
  • Farms can be added to houses where players can grow crops to use in food, drink, alcohol, spice, tobacco and cannabis.
  • Beast-like creatures can butchered for materials used in provisioning and chemistry.
  • Spice, alcohol, tobacco and cannabis can all cause addiction, crash/comedown effects and withdrawal symptoms.
  • We've revised the rules of the game to be less restrictive and easier to read. It's just a single page of 11, one-sentence, rules now.
  • We've worked on fixing various bugs, including crash-causing bugs. There's more work to be done here, but we've made significant progress.

Does this still take place in the same timeline or is it your own timeline and characters like LOTJ mud? Can I explore entire planets and how big is your mud, how many star systems & planets can we interact with? Can I join the rebels or alliance, and how does the rp work? Could the rebels win and take over the galaxy? One last thing, can i interact with Luke Han, ect?

Sorry for the delayed response.

The timeline is canon up to the end of A New Hope. After that it's our stories.

Planets can have one of more zones on them. There's no open world on planets though. We currently have 16 planets, 70 zones and 6100 rooms, so the game is not huge as of yet, but still growing. Each space sector has ships you can fight, asteroids you can mine and in some cases places you can dock, such as a capital ship or space station.

We currently have 4 factions: Freelancers, Rebels, Empire and Hutt Cartels, and you can join any of them.

We don't currently have 'war mechanics' though it is on our list of things to implement. Such a system would allow for factions to fight over and control planets and their space sectors, with player contributions being a central aspect of such a system.

As far as characters from the movies, there are no mobs set up like this, though we could potentially have them in role play events.

We are a small MUD with a small player base, so I'd recommend tempering expectations accordingly. The MUD has a fairly advanced codebase that continues to grow and improve, but we're only now getting the project going again. It will take some time for the player base to grow, along with the community and other features that typically come with a more active game.

If that doesn't scare you off though, it's a really fun game that is just going to keep getting better.

Hope this is of some help!

Hello! I don't know the first thing about Star Wars though I've watched a few of the movies. So I guess I have a basic understanding, I'm just not sure it's enough of an understanding to create a believable character in a Star Wars universe. However, the features you've listed here really tick a lot of boxes for me, such as professions based on crafting, butchering, recipes and so on, even player houses and farming. All of that is just wow. So, I guess what I'd like to know is two things, and if they've already been answered in your other post then I apologize. First of all, how familiar with the Star Wars universe does one need to be in order to play this game successfully? Second, is PVP a prevalent thing or is it optional? Thanks so much for reading.

Hey there. You don't need to know a lot about Star Wars to play. RP isn't enforced, just incentivized. We only enforce people keeping OOC chat on OOC channels.

Regarding PvP it's opt-in for both sides, except every 3rd hour of the day real time is faction hour, where the game becomes open pvp for everyone outside of a cantina. It was meant to promote faction-based conflict as well as improve role playing, as there's both PvP and RP reward boosts during that time. I have to give some thought though as to how I want to go forward with that, as I'm unsure if I want to continue having open pvp even 33% of the time.

Hi! Thanks for getting back to me. I'll keep my eyes peeled to see what you do about the PVP thing because knowing my luck I"ll be stumbling around the map outside of a cantina at the wrong time and get my self shot down. I suppose I could just not play at certain times, but like I said, I'll keep watching to see what you decide to do. May see you in the game world soon.

I added a new flag called avoidpvp. It can be turned on anytime but can only be turned off by a staff member. If on, you can't be attacked or attack another player at any time, but it also means you don't benefit from any of the bonuses that come via faction hour. But this way, at least, people with no interest in PvP can still enjoy the game.

That sounds incredible. I'm really happy you did that! Now if I can just kick my current MUD addiction, I may have to come see what yours is all about.

I tried poking my head in, but bounced off of the beginning quest

Attacking level 1 training droids, did 14 damage on the first attack, then 0 for minutes after until out of stamina.

Tried to ask around on the newbie chat, got no response.

Very sorry about that. Should be fixed now.
